  1. Based on the awesome fighting, I think the BreraxAlto yaoi fangirls will show up shortly XD
  2. Episode felt too rushed. This one will benefit from a DVD or movie version that adds in a few minutes here and there to have a few more pauses. OVerall though, massive fighting and singing is good. Wish we had a little more exposition on the Nome connection though. I didn't feel like this resolved Zero whatsoever unless I missed something.
  3. I tend not to read into the dialogue but am looking at the macro-context of the last few episodes. Making choices to return to someone is significant to me. Saying that not just once, but now twice in various forms is very significant. Then again, this is another one of those cultural values I think... We'll just have to see.
  4. The translations I've seen for this episode really actually should make it pretty clear that short of Alto biting it or getting a really weird and ooc revelation, the Sheryl <-> Alto dynamic is resolved.
  5. Well it's nice to know she's a I believe it's plausible she will fight off her infection or do something unusual... That and I like the fact that she's apparently the heir apparent to Basara. Those symbolic allusions are enough to make me bet the writers are going to exploit one of those facets and make her live.
  6. I was really looking forward to the song that Sheryl would be singing.... Hm. can't wait for the translations. There's a lot of plot being explained in the beginning ... And geez, the shippers are going to go nuts this ep. Lots of shipping. And oh my stars and mirrors! Ahahaha.
  7. At this point (most likely) it has to be either Funi or Bandai that licenses MF. The anime market has really been shaken up the last year and a half and not many players are left in the R1 area. I actually _prefer_ Bandai because they're showing interest in licensing the music and releasing it with the DVD releases. Their recent handling of Gurren Lagaan was very consumer friendly. (I got 9 episodes for 19.99 for episodes 1-9 and 10-18. If I wanted the CD with it, though, I'd have to pay about 34 dollars.) CR is a very high profile distribution site. Their getting in bed with ADV and Gonzo of course would make them a target. They've been also getting infusion of venture capital by some Japanese entities. If I were Bandai, I think I'd decide it's time to deal with them, to be honest. CR is a weird mix of legal and illegal content.
  8. I would not drop links. That blog has very few comments as is. Dropping links = more attention than maybe it would have otherwise gotten. I don't know what is up with the constant Robotech/Macross stuff. Having grown up on neither and only having seen most of Zero, I'm enjoying MacF (mostly for not being Zero and clunkily paced). That's the point I think. Most of you guys seem to like it. Me as the newb, LOVES it. The marketing for it worked fine for me. I like the designs. I LOVE the music. I love the mix of comedy and drama. Sometimes the fanservice annoys me, but it's a staple of anime so I just shrug and focus on the things I like. It's sad when entrenched fans can't unstick themselves from the past. It means they will never find a show that ever matches their first love. As for me, I found a new interesting fandom (intelligent to boot) to poke at. Their loss.
  9. Was pre-med with a bioengineering/molecular cell background, but that's old stuff now because I don't keep up as much with cellular membrane stuff hence my fumbling around on the discussion on v-type. And VF-25S is right . I ditched the straight bio stuff for other related stuff I am not too familiar with atmospheric chemistry, so I wasn't sure if the lowering O2 meant that other gases were being raised in relative percentage, hence affecting density, and thus changing the lift/drag. Yeah - and I realize we don't have to hold the writers to be literal, but it's funny how they give us what I call copies of scanning electronic microscope "germs" (according to the latest translations) and then don't go that extra mile. It kind of is funny considering that for all other purposes we see that Frontier is still more advanced than 2008 tech. If the antibodies are for a placental exposure, they could be circulating but in such minute quantities to be nearly indetectable. You woul dhave to have the right assay and antigens to pick them up (and only after either amplifying them likely). However, the super great thing is that if the antibodies exist in Ranka's immunologic memory, you might find greater quantities circulating in her now with continued exposure to Ai or even other cell-mediated helpers wandering about. The news article I linked also mentioned a cellular mechanism to concentrate those antibodies should they exist. @Final Vegeta Maybe this is the clunkiness of the translation, but I've seen "virus", "bacteria" and "germ" used interchangeably. When v-type infection was described earlier on, it appeared to be viral, specifically by a phage. However, your explanation of the 'whatsit" kind of is interesting as it works sort of with Leon's explanation to Alto. However, I'm not sure I buy the "intentional symbiosis" bit as it lends itself to his Leon's other statement that Ranka "chose" symbiosis (therefore she's somehow to be blamed), but who knows? Leon's explanation could be wrong, misleading, or just goofy :-/ Whatever it is though in her gut, when gut flora get out of your gut, they can cause sepsis and other nasty immunologic problems in your blood stream. Still think taking her bacteria (via poop) is a fun idea and within the scope of possible medical tech on Frontier But enough of poop and germs XD Some other things that still amuse me about reaction to this episode. The lack of "surprise" on our part about Brera. Was there anyone left in this fandom that didn't see that coming?
  10. Yes, but the biological science that is the basis of the Vajra 'infectoin' is patterned after current molecular biology and virology. A lot of what is shown "medically" is also comparable with current tech, unlike the tech stuff dealing with the mechs. It's oddly convenient to put medical science so far behind when they clearly have microscopic technology. Using current methods that are being used for immunologic therapy though may be "too boring" for the writers. I dunno though, since I'm kind of like "oh, this problem is kind of easy to solve if Frontier has a minimum of year 2008 biological techniques at hand." I need the other docs to back me up here, but the link above is real life science being done this year. It is not inconceivable that real life science can be applied years in the future, unless Frontier has no biologists sitting around. On another note regarding all the paper airplane stuff -- I'm going to throw the explanation for Sheryl's airplane crashing as a combination of bad paper and thinning oxygen concentrations I have no idea if the gravity is still 0.7g (I think that was what was shown in episode 1), but I was curious if atmospheric conditions also could just mess with all paper planes. (Because sometimes I like hitting back on all the speculation with a bit of science ) Paper planes on mars.... http://www.exo.net/~pauld/Mars/6play/playingonmars.html
  11. Did they actually state that? That would be a factual error. Antibodies can subsist for many years. This is the principle behind numerous vaccinations needing only to be given once in our human lifetime. Even recently there have been examples of antibodies obtained from people who survived the 1918 influenza pandemic. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/118480.php
  12. Hm. Gut flora. That means that Ranka is pooping out viruses like crazy? Sorry, but the infectious disease specialist in me is thinking... oh... so not good. Well, the overly technical explanations into the biological mechanism for Ranka's abilities means really only one thing. Since Ranka was infected in utero, she has antibodies. Antibodies lends themselves to a cure. If I were Grace, I'd get some blood samples before I messed more with experiments with the Queen. If I were Luca, I'd also go after Ranka for a cure for Sheryl. (Or I"d start doing some serology sampling of other Global survivors to see if they have immunity. It's possible that collection of enough antisera could yield a cure for Sheryl.l also still think it's biologically plausible that Sheryl could battle this thing on her own... but maybe the writers won't like that idea. It doesn't do much for the plot.) So now I'm bored. I had rather liked the mysterious glowing bit inside Ranka, but this is similar to the midichlorian thingies in Star Wars. :-( Except it is grounded even further in current modern day science. This also makes me think that Sheryl had to be a deliberate infection on part of Grace or the lab experiments. What we learned about Ranshe was that her exposure to the Vajra led her to becoming ill. How could Sheryl acquire the V-type infection in the wild on Galaxy? She'd either have to have not been sick and infected by Grace (in order to see if she could generate powers and antibodies) or have been on Global.
  13. gah. I love those jackets. *covets*
  14. crumpled paper usually does make bad paper airplanes Seriously? I bet the planes are all trolls on part of the writing crew. They're probably chortling while they watch people speculate over every single little thing.
  15. Leon minus pants - not as nauseating as the one where he's sitting around with weird toes. (Saw that one on Suki... barffy barffy barf.)
  16. Lunar sub is now out. This is pretty fast for them :-) Now to wait for it and see how certain explanations were translated.
  17. Sadly, I enjoyed the picture. Particularly of Alto in the dress... Thank goodness we had no Leon butt in this picture though. That would make me seriously... hurl.
  18. Well, if there's going to be a wedding, I bet it's Ozma and Cathy's. In all seriousness, unless Kawamori has gone off and become a jaded, bitter man, I see the Gundam ending as unlikely. Because Emo endings are kind of passe... and so not Kawamori.
  19. Since we're analyzing music. Can anyone tell if Yousei had Megumi singing backups? They're so muffled I can't tell... and after lookign back at how What Bout my Star was handled, I wanted to see if we could guess if this song will reemerge in show.
  20. Bri - tha'ts a great fairy tale analogy, and a rather ominous comparison. If Sheryl is really the Little Match Girl... kind of bodes ill for her chances of living.
  21. Another random thought to toss onto the pile of speculation: What do we make of the illustrations with Sheryl as Basara? If Ranka is the modern day Minmei, what implication would Sheryl as the modern day BAsara have? (Spiritia? Healing? Disappearing ?)
  22. Actually I agree with your interpretation Gubaba, my point was to question the original poster. I can't find a version that matches with what he or she was indicating as the storyline for that kabuki.
  23. Hm. I googled the story and came up with different renditions: https://eee.uci.edu/clients/sbklein/images/...akurahime1.html I'm not sure how this would work... It's an interesting idea , but I think it's more likely applied thematically to Alto's life in that "the past" as symbolized by his brother is trying to recapture him and restore him to what had been, but Alto has other things he wants to do...
