  1. It's not just branches. LAI is an independent company and they made their own derivatives of Shinsei's YF-24 Evolution.
  2. It's most likely just art style. That said, they've been trying to make the ears more prominent, especially since people don't even notice that characters like Guld and Mylene had them. That "early SV derivative" also has what seems to be forward fusealage similar to later YF-24 derivatives, so that may be a more plausible route for its development.
  3. IIRC, in Japanese culture, the husband sometimes takes the wife's last name if the latter is from a prominent family who's name holds power. Surely the Jenius family would count enough that anyone marrying one of Max and Milia's daughters would instead marry into their family and take on their name. Elf-like ears have been a trait of those with Zentraedi heritage since at least DYRL. It's just become more prominent from Frontier onwards.
  4. I don't think that 7 disappeared, FB7 seems to indicate that the events of 7 were suppressed, but we know that they were still around, especially since I believe that Fire Bomber was able to release new material.
  5. Might be just putting a random ship there just to add a bit more detail to the scene. That said, I think that rear "spike" is simply the ventral protrusion of the gunboat.
  6. Maybe, but it seems more realistic to think that highly different VF would at least need different tooling if not outright different lines. I mean, stuff like that goes into consideration all the time when it comes to procuring real world military aircraft.
  7. It doesn't seem to have the NMC's 2 box form (arms/legs). It also has what seems to be wings on the side (similar to the Meltran gunboat) as well as the ventral fin.
  8. Well, if 17 production lines are already established, or at least more established than 19/22 lines, then it probably did make more sense to do the 171 over updating the lines for the other two.
  9. Even if the 19/22 could be upgraded, I doubt it would be cheaper. The production lines and tooling for the the YF-24 derivatives has, at this point, have likely already been well established, so there's already alot of cost savings there, compared to having to revive the old lines for the 19/22. Actually, you can likely say the same thing for the 17/171, in that the former probably had more established production lines than either AVF competitor, which made continuing with the 171 much cheaper.
  10. All the variants are explained as all being unique fleet/corporate variations of the YF-24 Evolution. The VF-25 is the Frontier fleet's/LAI's derivative, while the VF-27 is the Galaxy fleet/General Galaxy Guld Work's interpretation. The engineers at General Galaxy aren't complaining since all they need to do is the VF-27 (and the 171 possibly keeps the union happy since it means that the line is kept running and people stay employed). As for the YF-29, it's explained as a prototype, anti-Vajra fighter based once again on the YF-24 that also serves as a testbed for the integration of fold quartz derived technologies which we later see in the YF-30 and VF-31 (again further derivatives of the YF-24 design). At this point, it's probably safe to say that there also exists YF/VF-26 and 28 variants of the YF-24 design used by other fleets.
  11. Mirage will punish him by stabbing him. Was the fleet using SV variants? Or was the plane we saw in the flashback simply a more recent, indigenously produced fighter (perhaps their own interpretation of a YF-24 based design)? IMO, signs point to the latter since we don't actually see any SV fighters during the part where it shows first contact.
  12. Needs an attempted stabbing though to be sure. It should be "Watashi no BAKA Wa Pairotto".
  13. Because the colonists in Macross 1 were all a bunch of cat lovers who immediately gained the favor of our umineko overlords. EDIT: Screencaps of the grandparents if anyone's interested.
  14. This is Macross, so cooling is obviously done with the power of song. Though I guess this could actually be a thing if they use thermoacoustic cooling though the heat would still have to go somewhere (and playing anything Fire Bomber would likely just add more heat to the system).
  15. Qurule(?) seems to be the team pet, or at least that of the girls.
  16. Trying to find that old image I made on Photoshop. Seems it's not on my hard drive anymore. Found it.
