  1. Could be a fan thing (as is how it started in Japan) where fans can get very vocal about idols getting into relationships.
  2. 39/52 episode runs are a thing of the past. Most anime these days are fit into blocks of 12-13 episode seasons or "cours" (following J-drama practices). I believe Delta is slotted to be a 2-cour show (around 24 episodes). I think the biggest problem the music will have to face is that it's not Kanno, so it doesn't have her eclectic fusion of styles and influences. So it's going to have to make do with a more traditional j-pop sound. Yes, even before the subs, we already know that Reina was living with Makina.
  3. The restriction might not exist in the Macross universe, not when idols and singers represent "culture" and it would be weird if they weren't allowed to partake in one of the most powerful elements of "culture". That said, it might rear it ugly head this time out, especially since Walkure are closer in representation to modern idols in Japan than previous acts like Sheryl (who, as Kanno developed her discography more started to feel more like a western diva) or Sharon Apple (who's virtual). Minmay never explored it since it wasn't prevalent during the time, meanwhile Elmo was too chill to give any sort of restriction like that to Ranka. However, with Walkure, maybe the tension between Kaname and Messer is due to this.
  4. As I pointed out earlier, the Japanese wiki entry seems to hint that it's closer to the size of the original SDF and the New Macross class.
  5. One other thing, it's hinted that there's a reason why Arad picked Hayate. It's likely that he's looking for a more "instinctive" pilot who flies by feel to partner with Mirage. The latter is likely a more theoretical, by the book pilot and Arado probably feels that that's holding her back, take note that not only was her timing off in episode 1, she was also the only member of Delta that was shown taking a hit.
  6. It's stated that he only skipped the classroom sessions, but was actually attending the practical lessons inside the cockpit (and likely the simulator as well). Another thing is that it's implied is that Mirage's classroom sessions mostly dog fighting theory and tactics. Hayate's apology to Mirage at the end says as much where he states that "just being able to fly isn't enough" - he realizes that he does need to learn actual air combat.
  7. Rewatched episode 2 and 3, the two guys on the tram seem to also be the two guys working on Mirage's plane earlier on. They're also seen in the group of mechanics with Freyja at the end of episode 3 (standing right beside her at that).
  8. Risking your life to achieve your goals seems to be an underlying theme of the show. Freyja's line saying "I can fly if I ride the wind. If I risk my life, I can fly." may as well be the arc words for the show. That said, this is Macross after all, they'll likely deconstruct this halfway through the show, before reconstructing it again in time for the finale.
  9. Not hard to fathom that Freyja's intended would be one of the Aerial Knights, especially since it works well into how this series is borrowing elements from Macross II, so someone like Bogue playing the "Feff" to Freyja's "Ishtar" doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. Additionally, Bogue's voice actor, KENN also happens to be a singer which means he was chosen for a reason (duet with Freyja/Minori Suzuki down the line?).
  10. Going through the Japanese wiki page gives us this. Whick, google translates as. So it definitely is a larger ship than the Quarter since both the original Macross class and later Battle class both exceed 1,000 meters in length. Of course, this is all from a wiki so take it with a grain or two of salt.
  11. Going through it right now. Anyone know how the some of the names are to be romanized (e.g. Heinz's second name which reads as "nerihi")? EDIT: Can we safely assume that Guy Geargood(?) and Harry Takasugi are those two other guys in the tram in episode 2?
  12. Where was this info given out (and where can we acquire it if it isn't on the net)? EDIT: That means that we have at least two Sailor Soldiers (Mikumo is Sailor Jupiter in PGSM Crystal) in the cast.
  13. Well, she did shoot him with a VF-1's gunpod this episode, sadly it was only filled with paint bullets. Grandma Milia must be shaking her head in disappointment.
  14. It's simple really, the closer she is to winning the triangle (and the more tsun she gets), the higher the chances of Hayate getting stabbed.
  15. We really need to start keeping track of how close Mirage is to stabbing Hayate.
  16. Because they needed a way for her to vent before she ends up asking him out and stabbing him.
  17. Maybe because the moment his balls drop, he can't sing like that anymore.
  18. That makes me worry that it's Kaname that's going to be eating some pineapple salad down the line.
  19. I just realized that at least two of the bridge bunnies were in the tram during Freyja's "final audition", maybe even all of them if the girl who "died" is the one with the mercat in her uniform.t
  20. But there's clearly something between Messer and Kaname. The only reason nothing's happened yet is that the former has heard that the latter makes a mean Pineapple Salad.
  21. But "scaled up" doesn't seem to be an accurate description, not when the only thing it shares with the Quarter is the general outline of the torso and those shoulder extentions (the details of the actual torso are quite different) and placement of some of the batteries (the Elysion has more guns). While it looks to be based on the Quarter design, I'd say that it's different enough to be a different class. Like how you wouldn't call a YF-29 a VF-25 (despite both being derived from the YF-24).
  22. Doesn't make up for the size discrepancy. Based on observations from the episode 2 thread, it's somewhat larger than the Quarter class. To quote from that thread (including my own observations).
  23. Because the condition for the win was for Hayate to get one hit on Mirage before the 5 minutes were up. Think about it, absolute rookie versus a veteran, one from the Jenius family no less. It was never a fair fight to begin with, the point was to allow Hayate a chance to show that he at least made some progress in his training and was worth keeping on. Also, Arad and Johnson probably wanted to give Mirage a chance to vent before she ends up trying to ask Hayate on a date to stab him.
  24. As some of us have pointed out in the episode 2 thread, the Elysion has alot of differences from the Quarter class, more than (as some of us would contend) what you'd see in other ships of that class (all the Quarter's we've seen aren't as different as the Elysion). Also, the Elysion might actually be bigger than the Quarter (noticeable when you compare the CV/C-109 to the ARMD-L).
  25. The thing is, the mercat scenes IMO did have a purpose. Hayate was clearly inspired by the mercat's underwater cobra maneuver so the scenes seem to be there in part to show how Hayate learns/flies mostly through feel and observation. This of course sets him up in contrast to Mirage and Messer who seem to be much more by the book - Mirage has probably been studying how to fly and dogfight since she was a child (and stab the moment she learned the concept of boys).
