  1. Oh man, I love the artwork. For a minute there, I got excited, DeAgostini....thought they were going to do a 1/24 scale GBP. Cool how they went with the DYRL hands instead of the balloon hands.
  2. Lol, it's a reissue, those things aren't worth much are they?
  3. I've never even heard of Nioh until you just mentioned it. I thought maybe that other game, Ghosts of Tsushima (in terms of video games)? But honestly, I'm not much of a gamer so I don't really know. There hasn't been a really solid samurai film targeting western audiences since The Last Samurai, so maybe they just felt it was time? I've only seen snippets of the original, but it looked pretty epic for the time.
  4. There were some heavy hitters attached to the original version - Mifune Toshiro and Richard Chamberlain. Some big shoes to fill, but Sanada Hiroyuki is a household name in Japan. I'm not familiar with the actor playing Blackthorne.
  5. BC is stupid expensive, especially the lower mainland lol! Haha, has no one done an actual u boxing yet? I guess there must be videos out there already, but nobody posted any pics here yet? I'm not going to go back all 30 pages to check, but here we go, photo dump time. Getting this sleeve on and off is a PITA. Pulling the box cover off. Yeah, I actually took a picture of this. I guess I always try to preserve every little aspect since I absolutely destroyed all my toy boxes as a kid. Sweet, it comes with two heads, one with the grey visor. I still haven't tried to pop this head onto a 1S or 1A neck. Lots of DYRL hands.... Can never get enough of these. Wish there was an easy way to make these fit onto my old Yammies. The oversized balloon hands are ridiculous. They look comical on the thing and in my opinion are probably anime accurate, but sort doesn't match the precision and accuracy of the rest of the toy. I don't like them personally. I didn't read the instructions, just sort of tried to figure it out....underwear on first. Pants next Boosters.... The ugly cradle isn't very visible thankfully, but it is a huge eyesore on the DX strike Valkyries. Win=Yamato Sleeves and shoulders. Funny, I just bought a complete Kabuto and Yoroi set and this reminded me of setting up the armor for display, or roughly the order of wearing Japanese armor. Chest plate on Fixed pose DYRL hands on, no socks/shoes. Detail is amazing So glad there is no need to apply stickers on this thing.
  6. Lol! I did that with my other DXs as well....Max, Roy and the 1D. Don't recall sticker seals on my Yammies.
  7. Onto the news, Shogun is getting a remake with Sanada Hiroyuki playing Toranaga and it's filming in Vancouver! It's kind of big news for me because I am a bit of a samurai nut, it's filming in my neck of the woods, and there are some really cool samurai actors like Sanada Hiroyuki, Asano Tadanobu, and fellow Canadian Kanagawa Hiro! Sorry, I'm geeking out over this. From the Variety article: The FX series adaptation of the James Clavell novel “Shōgun” has rounded out its main cast. Anna Sawai has been cast in the lead role of Lady Mariko, joining previously announced leads Cosmo Jarvis and Hiroyuki Sanada. In addition, the ensemble cast will now also include: Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido, Tokuma Nishioka, Takehiro Hira, Ako, Shinnosuke Abe, Yasunari Takeshima, Hiroto Kanai, Toshi Toda, Hiro Kanagawa, Nestor Carbonell, Yuki Kura, Tommy Bastow, Moeka Hoshi, Yoriko Doguchi and Yuka Kouri. Furthermore, Jonathan van Tulleken has come aboard to direct the first two episodes with production now underway in Vancouver. The show has received a 10-episode order at FX. “Shōgun” is set in feudal Japan. It charts the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai. John Blackthorne (Jarvis), a risk-taking English pilot major ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him. Lord Toranaga (Sanada), a shrewd, powerful daimyo, is at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals. And Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, must prove her value and allegiance. https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/shogun-fx-series-hiroyuki-sanada-cosmo-jarvis-1234980183/ https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/shogun-series-at-fx-rounds-out-main-cast-1235078058/ https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/tv-series-shogun-wraps-filming-in-ucluelet-1.5602463
  8. Packing is awesome, the best of any DX toys so far, love the windows to look at the toy without opening the box. Lol, didn't even read the Engrish, hahahahaha! Is anyone else anal like me and carefully peels the sticker seals off, and also tries to remove the glue residue? Carefully cut the sticker seal first (I used to try to take it off in one shot, but it's just too messy. Nice and clean.
  9. Oh man, that is awesome. I love how you added panel lines to your ship. I saw that done on CosmoDNA once. Anyway, awesome work, looks amazing. I have a 2199 1/500 in my growing pile to build.
  10. Hey guys, thought I would just drop in and say hi. I've been kind of busy lately with work, taking a course I have absolutely zero interest in and its taking me forever to get it into my head, lol! I also had a side job that's been taking up some of my free time so I haven't touched models in ages. Training some cast and extras in a little Japanese swordsmanship for a TV show that's filming in Vancouver. I've never worked in the film industry before, so it's a very interesting experience. Anyway, I'm still alive, but model work is slow. My pathetic Excelsior saw some paint layers, but that's about it: I'll be honest, this build doesn't spark much joy yet.....maybe I'll be more motivated once I get to the decal stage, but we'll see, lol! I don't know if I'm in a rut or what, but I even bought one of those DX 1J GBPs for some instant gratification and it's staring at me while I try to get through this course at work. Anyway, it's awesome to see how much activity there is in this thread, some really amazing work in here! Hope to be back up to speed again soon.
  11. I can't believe I bought one of these. I've been on a model-building frenzy the last few years and can't really appreciate toys anymore, but I felt compelled to get this one (and a few other DX toys lately too)......instant gratification I guess. I totally missed the boat on the first 1J DX, saw it at a used shop in Japan, passed on it even though it was a good deal. The only other 1J toy I have is the 1/55 chunky re-release that someone gave me, but it's sitting in the box, collecting dust. Never had a GBP toy, or a decent model so this is sort of my first. What can I say, it's massive, and it's got some weight to it, lol!
  12. I would recommend trying to get your money back through Paypal, your CC or your bank if you can, before its too late like a lot of people. They are total scum and they fukked so many people, just look in here: There's also a FB page created for all the people they screwed: https://www.facebook.com/groups/271395437813426/
  13. The nacelle assembly is bonkers just like the rest of this kit. There are no reference tabs of any sort for these parts. The chillers have small pegs, but that's it. My hats off to anyone who not only builds these but lights them as well. Mocked it up, but there is nothing locking down any of these parts, they're just sort of free floating and I have to eyeball whee to glue them down. I don't feel a tremendous amount of motivation to finish this thing, lol! I'll git 'er done though eventually. Lots of filling.... Lots.
  14. Interesting. The instructions for this version don't call for them, but they are in the parts pile
  15. Is it one of those HG Masterpiece Veritechs?
  16. Lol, I'm out. Comments turned off, 1.5k likes, 1.2k dislikes at this moment. Solid pass for me, it looks like....well, let's just say its not for me. He-Man is dead.
  17. This was fun lining up. Stealing the shuttle for later use. Not going to see this behind the closed bay doors anyway. This three piece neck is the only thing attaching the saucer to the secondary hull. Sounds like a job for super glue or epoxy. There is nothing marking the alignment of the shuttle bay doors.... Just going to have to eyeball it and hope for the best. It's a bit off but close enough. A little trimming, and maybe a bucket of bondo. Good place to put a seam.... Took forever trying to make it less obvious. More filing and sanding.....
  18. Actually, it comes with an insert for the dual impulse domes, but truth be told, I prefer the larger single one.
  19. Haven't built anything all week, maybe more, so I finally have something on the workbench. Nothing exciting report though, just another AMT Star Trek kit. I really wanted to do a Macross build, but I'm not sure I'm ready for the 1/48 Strike yet. Need more practice. Anyway, what's in the box. The thing is huge compared to the Refit. Comes with shuttles you'll never see. The only raised panel lines are on the bottom of the nacelle and some other minor details. At this scale, they don't look horrible, but on the 1/2500, it looked like a ribbed Trojan. I might cut those shuttled and figure out a way to display them outside of the ship.... Let's see if I'm not too lazy to do it. Look at that AMT Star Trek precision fit! Apparently retooled extra detailed parts? Different bridge domes for different versions of the Excelsior. G-Cal Aztecs The kit decals do not come with the strong back decals, and neither do the G-Cal decals. Feeling pretty lazy lately, I don't think I feel like masking and painting all the blue bits, so I ordered the Polar Lights Aztecs anyway. Guess I'll have a complete set of decals for a second ship then (Polar Lights Aztec kit comes with two sets of Strong backs... One blue, and the other blueish green.). Anyway, not a proper AMT Star Trek build without copious amounts of cursing... Stay tuned.
