meh. still doesn't explain why you posted an actual criticism in a thread which is obviously a "love thread" in disguise (if you had bothered to read the posts). unless you sub-consciously wanted to join in the "mindless" fun.
-
nope, just pointing out similarities. when i said "theory" at the start, i meant the "theory" that mr. march posited (seconded by me and others) that the vajra are not as malevolent as we might have thought. purpose of the thread is nothing more than that.... just a thought that ideas in macross F might have been influenced by concepts in the enderverse, if SK had read them. or maybe even just pure coincidence. i don't mind either way. but i see your point. maybe a preamble and some editing will do the trick.

Macross Frontier similarities to Ender's Game novel and sequels (Enderverse)? So far: 1. vajra = formics. that's the most obvious. If Mr. March's and others' theory turns out to be right, the vajra aren't really that much of the malevolent/mindless creatures of death they were painted to be at the start. in fact, they may very well have sufficient intelligence to communicate and co-exist with humans/zentraedi. 2. The species misunderstanding. following the above discussion, the conflict could have been brought about by a misundertanding between the species. the humans' contempt towards the vajra (specially come ep 14) can be likened to humans' relentless attacks on the formics' home planets before endeavoring to understand them (or the 117th covering it up) 3. battle school = mihoshi high. ok it's a stretch, but it's still a school where all the pilots happened to be in. (although admittedly, it's closer to Eva and the marduk concept, specially given that Sheryl introduction in ep . but basically... youth rules! 4. Dimension Eater = MD Device. 5. Fold faults and new fold technology. Macross F: status quo - there are fold faults which signficantly slow or limit fold travel and communications. Vajra can seem to get around them easily, and are quite possibly capable of instantaneous fold communication. Shift in status quo - the purple crystals may have been discovered by studying the vajra, and the crystals eventually gave rise to the development of faster fold travel and fold communications. Enderverse: status quo - basic laws of relativity limited space travel to light speed. However, the formics could communicate instantaneously from and to any point in the universe. Shift in status quo - humans discover the philotic network by studying the formics, thus arriving at instantaneous communication through the ansible technology. later on, humanity discovers instantaneous travel across the galaxy using the same philotic network discovered from the formics. 6. The death of the queen (vajra/formic) in battle causes the fleet to act without coordination, rendering them helpless and as good as defeated during the battle. (new) 7. Grace's AI are in and around the fold network, which was created by the Vajra. much the same way that the bugs first used the philotic network which was adopted by the humans, and became the birthplace and habitat of the AI that gained consciousness, Jane.

for a split-second there, i thought you wrote "Macross as a Whale". Dynamite... dynamite...everyday everynight everywhere! Man, that is AWESOME! but you're forgetting the last part. when the dimension eater reaches frontier, the green critter will jump off nanase's chest and shout, "No, MOFO, I'M eating YOU!!". leaving the green critter as king of the known universe... sitting atop nanase's twin pillows, of course. -

haha. at one point, you have to let go of that theory. If you love it you gotta set it free. I understood what you were saying before, i just didn't really like it that much. much too circuitous, IMO. create fold faults just to sell the booster? doesn't make sense. i'm pretty sure the dimension eater costs a lot to make, and remember that you have to destroy it with each use. and besides, a fold booster that can offer almost instantaneous fold? it will sell like hotcakes with no need of marketing. it's a technology you just gotta have, no question about it. on the other hand, i like what shun said. if the Deater can create fold faults, it can be used as a defensive weapon to prevent unwanted folds into UNG space. -

Macross Frontier Plot Theories...
dreamweaver13 replied to Kronnang Dunn's topic in Movies and TV Series
Mr. March, I've been leaning towards the same way for a long time now. As the plot will progress my money is on the vajra as a peaceful species. or at the very least, even if they're not peaceful by nature, they were not the ones who made the first move. Vajra merely on the defensive? i would tend to think so. perhaps what the 117th fleet did to them was so terrible (hey, if you're an intelligent species, and you're experimented on as if you're an animal, you'd be pissed off to) that they tend to over-react whenever there's any human presence nearby. they kill to protect once there's a confrontation. and in that sense, they can be very nasty killers. Remember that on galia 4, they were quite satisfied to just let the zentraedi and humans roam the planet, despite the fact that the vajra queen already probably sensed them. even when alto and ranka were close enough, they didn't really attack until they were finally discovered to be there (ok, they kidnapped ranka, but that doesn't apply coz she seems to have a special link to them). Which goes to show that the vajra are quite content to be just left behind in their corner of the universe... until the humans came along. But March, i wouldn't go as far as describe them as with little intelligence. ah, did you see the common yet subtle trap you fell into? They look like bugs, they act like bugs, they act more like a hive, than as individuals, then they must be less intelligent species! Probably the same trap the 117th fleet fell into. given the vajra's behavior, the 117th probably presumed they were a non-intelligent species, closer to animal than humans. their bias towards human intelligence and individualism fooled them. and thus they experimented on them (probably painfully) without realizing that they were actually experimenting on an intelligent, conscious species. The premise of the Ender's Game novel keeps coming back to me. i'm starting to sound like a broken record, but i can't help it, it's really there. The war between bugs and humans there was Shun, Yes, noticed it since the time they flashed his image in ep 13. The brother looks so much like eldric, down to the hair and the color of the shirt/jacket he's wearing. doesn't help that his dad (or whoever it is in the picture) also wears the same type of clothes. -

by the time the picture was taken, dr. mao would already be 60 years old, so i doubt it's her. ozma and the guy in the picture could be related. possibly. would explain why ozma is so over-protective of her. -

Keith, i agree. that has always been my impression of the difference in designs used in the DYRL movie. nice post. basically, no matter how much historically accurate you would like to make a movie, it would still be greatly influenced by the fashion, trends and current circumstances at the time the movie was made. or how about this other side of the spectrum: the DYRL movie could have had such a big impact on its audience (pretty much the entire human/zentraedi civlization at this point) at the time it came out, that people (and even the military) adapted to the fashion sense and style in the movie. it brought about a fashion and cultural revolution (a little similar to the way the Matrix affected fashion and action sequences) in all the fleets, hence we see a mix of the SDFM design and the DYRL designs in the real world (macross 7). for all we know, exedole liked the way he was depicted in the movie so much, that he changed his style a bit to look more like it. i'm sure it does wonders when meeting the ladies. "Aren't you that exedole i saw in the movie? oh my, you look exactly the same. that's so hot." -

Theory: Fold Faults and SD space time dilation
dreamweaver13 replied to Master Dex's topic in Movies and TV Series
hmmm... good point. how about this. if point A is the Frontier, and point B is the last known coordinates of the Galaxy, the best way to save the Galaxy fleet would be to jump directly to Point B. at the same time, the best way for the dulfim/kaitos to get help is to jump directly to point A. i'm assuming that the human fleets have mapped out fold faults in its immediate vicinity to a certain degree. thus, the Quarter rescue fleet knew that it would be encountering a fold fault. therefore it knew that in order to communicate effectively with Point A from point B, it would have to drop communication buoys in a pre-mapped Midpoint. the communication buoys were necessary to communicate around the fold fault/s. We can assume that the Galaxy (and the Kaitos/Dulfim) had the same galactic maps, with the same coordinates of known fold faults. Thus, from the same consistent map, the Kaitos and Dulfim would know that the best path to Point A would be the very same Midpoint that the Quarter used. This would explain why, in the vast expanse of space, the Kaitos/Dulfim managed to rendezvous with the Quarter at a specific point in space. and judging by Luca's surprised reaction of the Vajra mothership from one side, i would surmise that the Midpoint was covered by fold faults in several directions, thus making the entrypoint of new ships into the foray supposedly predictable. -

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
dreamweaver13 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
unfortunately, HG won't go bankrupt if the movie flops. they got paid anyway. it'll be WB that will take the damage. but then again, if WB makes a movie similar to macross, Big West sues, WB will counter-sue HG for misrepresenting that it had the rights to macross , then that could work. -
