  1. oh my. got me thinking... is megumi nakajima the new maaya sakamoto? the parallels between the way nakajima got her seiyuu debut here, and maaya got hers in escaflowne is starting to get to me. and megumi does sing like maaya sometimes...
  2. nah. it's a big-ass Nintendo Wii.
  3. don't care either way. not that much of an interesting character to begin with, but she does have her purpose to the series (although it is admittedly quite minimal). as gubaba said, she's too much of an insignificant character to either love or hate, imo. (although i wouldn't go as far as comparing her to Hikaru's nurse). ultimately, as a character, she just doesn;t have any substance. On the other hand, i don't think she's supposed to have any. otherwise, she might just steal some character development time from sheryl-alto-ranka. and i wouldn't like that. so in her lack of substance, she does serve a purpose. i think it's more of the rabid (mmm, too harsh? ) fan reaction to Nanase's figure that has brought about this thread. but character-wise... nah, still nothing.
  4. if there was ever one scene that cemented my vote for sheryl, it's the one i'm using now for my avatar. sheryl-san, fighto!!
  5. i'm going for this one as the most plausible answer.
  6. huh? it isn't? no way! i'll check!!
  7. oh no you don't! you can't cop out on this one just like that, mr. engineer!
  8. Alright!! thanks for this Tobey Maguire! and as for shammy... hmmm...doesn't even mention if all those kids have the same father.... shammy, you skank!!
  9. exactly! i also heard the dialogue in that episode, and i know what it implied. but my first thought was "yeah right. no one knew that the ship was capable of transforming into a robot.... suuuure." it's like the engineer was messing around with global's head that time, and he was supressing his laughter the whole time. and after global left, he told his co-engineers, "what a sucker! he actually believed that crap! as if we could transform an entire frickin ship just by chance???" And that point, the entire engineering crew fell to the floor laughing their asses out.
  10. actually, this reason of how the macross transformation came about always bothered me. whether its canon or not, i don't really know. but as to the practicality.... no way a complex transformation like that was unintended or unplanned by the SDF-1 re-designers. i would instead justify that the transformation of the ship at that particular time was forced by necessity, and that global would have preferred not to transform if he had a choice.
  11. haha. good point. sigh, of ALL the times to have his visor down, it just had to be this scene in faded black and white. oh well, when in doubt... just shrug and say "it doesn't matter" (and then lay awake at night thinking about it until dawn. )
  12. i think it could be lighting. her emotional scenes so far have happened in places with less sunlight, thus her hair has an illuminating effect. at the very least, it could be an animation technique to highlight the importance of the scene. but i wouldn't put it past SK to suddenly reveal it as a plot point later on.
  13. wow. imagine that. i always thought it was hikaru, coz i never saw any glasses. but looking from this picture, i could make out a very very faint outline of the bottom part of max's glasses. looks like it could be max alright. just goes to show you, even after all these years watching SDFM, you could have still missed something.
  14. i remember reading in one of the articles that came out when the news of the movie came out that Maguire confirmed being a fan of robotech. you're right, he would be silent about whether he's a fan particularly of the original macross, since the one he and WB dealt with was HG. the skit above is just for fun, and is not in any way a reflection of TM's fanboy leanings, whether for RT or macross. for all i know, he could be a hard-boiled SDFMacross otaku who just got the robotech rights as a mere first step to negotiating with Big West on the macross rights. hell, for all i know, Gubaba could be Tobey Maguire.
  15. at what point did this thread suddenly become a "get to know your robotech voice actors" festival? anyways... just a thought... wouldn't it be funny if Maguire and/or WB didn't actually know the whole legal situation regarding HG and Nue/Big West (just a whimsical what-if)? ************** Maguire: ok, ok, time to start production! let's start with building the props for the SDF-1! gosh, i'm so excited about this one... Production Assistant: um... sir... i don't think we can do that... Maguire: huh? what the heck are you talking about? PA: um, well sir, it isn't really clear yet if the robotech rights we bought from harmony includes the design of the SDF-1. we might have to make up another design. Maguire: You're kidding me right? I'm being Punk'd, right? how can i make Robotech without the SDF-1??? PA: well, we can always try, but this japanese anime company could start suing us, and it could delay the production indefinitely and -- Maguire: what the hell does a japanese anime company have to do with this? we're remaking a cartoon, last time i checked. not one of those ghost in the whatever anime giant robots with flying fists yadda yadda. PA: Um, ok sir, at this point, i think i'm the one being Punk'd. You're kidding me, right? Maguire: kidding you about what? PA: Um...you do know robotech was anime, right sir? Maguire..... PA: ..... Maguire..... PA: ..... Maguire: um...yeah of course i knew that. haha. i was just messing with you. you thought i didn't know that?? how could i not know something like that, right?? ha-ha. got you there. ha-ha. ha-ha. ha.. PA: haha, ok sir, you got me there. haha. just makin sure... Maguire: anyway, so ok scrap the SDF-1 design. call michael bay and ask if he has an idea for a new robot ship design... (sigh) oh well, can't be helped. let's just start production with the veritechs! ok, i want it to look just like in robotech 1st saga, ok? PA: (sigh) oh boy..... um sir....
  16. yeah, jealousy, but done right. brilliant!
  17. hehe. ftw. on another matter, good old friar william of occam must be rolling in his grave right now... "what?? my perfect methodological theory is being used to debate a plot point on an animated show?? you gotta be kidding me!!"
  18. i agree. i never got the impression of a "gijoe" battle. what i felt was that they were just laying down warning shots (or cover fire at times), just to keep the other side in its place. they were keeping their trump cards until it was necessary for a real battle (ogotai with his battleship, temjin with his nuclear missiles). If ranka hadn't arrived on time, then we would have seen an honest to goodness zentraedi bloodbath, since ogotai had already given the order to fire.
  19. Take that back!!! the hory froating head could have heard you!!!
  20. OMFG. so that's what starbuck was actually screaming over and over again when they were moving further away from earth... "Why won't you listen to me??! Listen to my song!!"
  21. hehe. QFT. thank god the original skull1 was nowhere in sight.
  22. i just find it interesting... as one of the naysayers pointed out (i can't remember who, sorry), the reason why he denies that it's the real macross on galia4 is that he can't accept the fact that the most special ship in the macross franchise is on some forgotten planet. on the other hand, one of the theories of the "it's not macross" following is that there might have been other macrosses built. if i were a purist (who am i kidding, i am.), and a romantic, i would definitely choose the former. i'd rather the real macross goes back in action -- even in a forgotten planet -- then to find out that the iconic macross design came out of a production line at one point. after all, i think the whole point of the producers in using an absolutely different design for the megaroad 1 (and subsequent ships) was to give the Macross the proper iconic status it deserves.
  23. i think what anon is saying is that the one in macross plus was a copy. an actual working copy. the real one was sent on the SAR mission. if that's the case, we were fooled once again.
  24. oooh! not bad. not bad at all. hey, if it means tying in the next episode (and macross F) to the fate of megaroad 1, even a little, count me in. after all, it does bother me that there is no highly publicized (at least not that we know of) search and rescue mission for the all-star crew of megaroad 1, so why not the SDF-1 in a secret mission? edit: if this thoery turns out to be true, then sadly i am expecting a long-dead global in the ship. and his "memory" would refer to a recording he made of what transpired...
  25. hehe. seeing as that the BSG crew is bound to find some evidence of the 13th tribe landing on earth, then we're bound to see the original ship that carried them there. underwater, perhaps? hey, if that 13th tribe ship is indeed underwater somehere, and it rises to the surface because "it detected the signatures of the 12 fleets' vessels", then we know where this is going. most probably by that time, BSG would have found some survivors of post-apocalyptic earth who have no idea about their extra-terrestrial origins. starbuck as the anima spiritia!! haha, now that would be kooky. but in a sense, she already is. not anima spiritia per se, but someone who has some kind of special power in her that will revive humanity or something. so....that being said... basara is the final cylon!!!
