  1. Not me, but I know someone who's had JoJo's "Stand Proud" stuck in his head for like a month.
  2. Friggin' Card Captor Sakura opening still creeps into my head from time to time.
  3. I've described Basara as more a force of nature than a character before. I still stand by that opinion. I don't think the run time is as bad as all that. It only really staggers after Operation Stargazer to me, aside from Hurricane Basara hogging the spotlight all the time. And yeah, there's a lot of really good stuff in there. I even like Basara sometimes. He's really fun in small doses. He just can't hold the spotlight for a year-long run without overstaying his welcome. Especially when there's so much OTHER drama going on around him. Put the spotlight on Mylene, make the sound energy less blatant, and the show'd be great. And I think that's part of why Mac7 draws so much lightning down, is it's got a lot of potential, and comes SO CLOSE, then it stumbles at some critical moment. And for all that, I'm pretty ambivalent towards 7. I don't regret watching it, but I don't really love it. I DO love Dynamite 7, though. All that said, I would not mind seeing another show LIKE Macross 7. Just not exactly like.
  4. The problem is EVERYTHING is about Macross 7. The sum total of human achievement was all to get us to a place where Macross 7 could be made. The Hokey Pokey is not what it's all about, Planet Dance is.
  5. Wouldn't you be if you had a movie about a sarcastic trigger-happy racoon and some other chumps? Seriously, the popular response to Rocket Racoon has been so strong I think they're just assuming it's a shoe-in on that alone. ... That and what was the last Marvel-produced movie that bombed?
  6. So with it going open beta(and me realizing it's PS360 as well as PS4/XB1), I sat down and played it for a bit. Then played it for a good bit more. Game's the shizzle, and I totally want it. ... Except I want it on PC. It's not so much platform allegiance as I don't have a PS4 or X1, and I don't want to settle for the watered down version that runs on decade-old hardware.
  7. Yeah, my understanding was ADV didn't have the same audio files as Animeigo, but they started from the same video files. Which makes it interesting that there would be quality differences. There IS a space per episode difference, but it's not as huge as it seems at first glance(4 episodes in DVD-5 vs 9 episodes in DVD-9). Hmmm... I suppose the slight increase in episodes per gigabyte COMBINED with the reduced video space due to OMG SIX CHANNEL SOUND* might make an appreciable difference. I'm still more inclined to blame incompetent mastering. *Seriously, it's a friggin' MONAURAL source. Just give it to us as it was originally designed to be given and stop wasting disk space by upsampling one channel into 5 or 6 or twelve.
  8. They don't avoid getting into IP trouble. They avoid getting into IP trouble with an already-annoyed Big West. HUGE difference.
  9. In fairness, the Animeigo set was also single-layer DVD, so it had less space to start with. Of course, it was also a single mono audio track instead of mono japanese and OMG SIX CHANNELS OMG english. I'd wager the lower quality of the ADV release was down to just plain not caring more than it was disk space, though.
  10. I must have it. And Megadrive Megatron too. I would've sworn that one was a one-off, and not a thing that was actually going into production. Normally, I'd insist on calling it a Genesis, but I will bow to my japanese overlords this time because MEGADRIVE MEGATRON is just too much fun to say. ... ... ... Megadrive Megatron.
  11. I think Keith did. I considered it, but I only have so much money to go around, so I backed the potato salad instead.
  12. That's the evil version from season 2. Me too... :'(
  13. Surely you mean "Vector Sigma." The Allspark is a dumb retcon from a show that turned Optimus Prime into a monkey.
  14. In all honesty, I think Dr. Chiba's work IS a bit like midichlorians, only in reverse. They had a good solid argument(when exposed to culture, people raised as machines start acting like people instead of machines), and converted it to an ill-defined "force" of some sort. I would be much happier with Macross 7 if Dr. Chiba wasn't there at all, or if the sound boosters had no visible effect(leaving room for doubt that they actually did anything at all). You make good counterpoints, but I still hate the idea of taking the concept of culture shock and making it a quantifiable energy. Heck, I'd even be happy if they HAD sound energy but didn't try to draw a connection between it and what happened in SDFM. But the entire PREMISE of Dr. Chiba's research is that Minmay was uniquely special, her singing, specifically, was pivotal to the entire war, and someone ought to figure out why. And since his research produces visible results... well, it stands to reason that his foundation hypothesis was RIGHT. Oh, I have gripes with Frontier, as well. Don't think I blame Mac7 solely for all the franchise's missteps. I won't even claim that SDF is perfect. And certainly, I am probably guilty of grossly oversimplifying things in my criticism. I do still see sound energy as akin to magic, though. I honestly don't remember anything overtly magical in DYRL aside from Misa being able to read alien song lyrics at first glance. Though I find it to be incomplete at best and view it more as gorgeous eyecandy than an example of masterful and compelling writing(speaking of flame bait...). Again, I'm not really a hardcore Mac7 hater. I think it has it's good points, and don't regret watching it. And Dynamite 7 is pure awesome. I even actually like Basara(in spite of my argument that he was a lousy choice for main character). But Dr. Chiba is my arch-nemesis of the week, and he shall have no Quarter!
  15. It might've been hinted at, yes. I love him EXCEPT for his ridiculous boobage. Wish he'd tone it down just a tad. Because I would seriously love that statue if the chest area was just a TINY bit smaller. As-is, they're a little distracting, and not in a good way. But he's apparently making a decent living by making what he loves, so more power to him.
  16. But that's five years away! How will will pass the time?
  17. Except that in Macross 7, it's not love and culture that saves the day. It's "anima spiritia." Sound energy. Magic. And that's really my biggest gripe with it, is it had a ripple effect that redefined everything. Sudden;y Minmay isn't just a girl who was in the right place at the right time anymore. She's a high-level anima spiritia with wildly high sound energy. The zentradi weren't going into culture shock, they were brainwashed by the power of her song. If Basara'd been there, one song is all it would've taken to convert the entire fleet. No, really. Watch Fleet of the Strongest Women. It's hilarious, and I love it, but... it's just plain WRONG in the context of the franchise as a whole. I'm far from the most vocal Macross 7 detractor. I think it's a fun show at times, and mostly suffers from being too long for the amount of content they have and focusing on the wrong character quite a bit. But... I can't forgive Dr. Chiba, and most of all I can't forgive him for being RIGHT. Anyways... yeah, it's definitely the mold-breaker. Thankfully, they managed to fix the mold back up a bit later.
  18. Here's what they need to do. They need some NAME recognition on this kickstarter. Their staff simply isn't pulling their weight as is. I propose they have some of their employees get legal name changes so they can advertise it as "Robotech Academy: by James Cameron and Steven Spielberg" Alternatively, find some guys off the street with suspiciiously familiar names.
  19. Personally, I think a sequel needs to bring something new to the table. Otherwise, what's the point? It's a big universe, there's a lot more to see. While I dislike Macross 7's take on things, I appreciate it for what it wasn't. It would've been so easy to just say "let's do SDF Macross all over again" and made a show with no personality of it's own, but they decided to take the express train to Crazyville, population: Basara instead. And then when they decided to do a direct sequel to Macross 7, they decided to shake things up anyways, and Dynamite 7 spent most of it's time far far away from the fleet that had set the stage for the entire TV series dealing with more "down to Earth" problems. Of course, even DYRL chose to portray a MUCH different story than what came before, and it was allegedly remaking the TV series.
  20. That Sinon statue is badass. I want it so much.
  21. You know, I was gonna make a sarcastic comment about you guys not having the heart to reach into your wallets and help grant Carl's dying wish. But then I decided that was probably beyond the bounds of good taste, even in context. Then the last update happened and HG asked us all to have the heart to reach into our wallets and grant Carl's dying wish. They just keeps digging that hole a little deeper, don't they?
  22. Quoted for truth, as they say.
  23. If a kickstarter doesn't make it's target, no one gets charged anything.
  24. They should just ship an empty box and claim it's a rare thermoptic camoflauge variant.
