  1. Two novels and two art books. As for the details of the story, someone else has to fill in.
  2. The action part was pretty good. Too bad the music was weak, dare I say monotone? Frontier had more dynamic music that was a better fit with the action scenes. I also highly appreciate the serious talk between Hayate and Mirage at the end. This show finally shows some depth! Best of all, I don't remember Freyja doing any super annoying stuff this episode. So it gets a solid neutral vote this time.
  3. I cancelled my Fairy today. But I will keep Nexx's. If the Fairy ever reaches 50% off, I might bite again. But if they decide to release some more interresting color scheme, I think I'd rather have that.
  4. A VF-11 in 1:60 and not breaking the bank is unfortunately an impossible equation these days. Only Yamato made an attempt, but they went belly up and the aftermarket prices skyrocketed. However, the older 1:72 VF-11 by Yamato may be found cheap, but then it depends on what you consider "looking slick" as they show their age.If Arcadia's 1:60 VF-1 offerings are too expensive for you, you frankly need to switch scale as they are among the cheapest valks in that scale out there. Well, if you don't count Toynami's offerings or Yamato's 1:60 VF-1 v.1 (and you shouldn't, they are crap). If you are lucky, Bandai's Hi-Metal R line in 1:100 will eventually include other valks than the VF-1, but it may take a few years with the current release schedule.
  5. The first half was pretty decent; it actually moved the plot forward. But the second half was just bad. Freyja's song felt like a shoehorned in musical number. Usually in Macross, the music accompanies the action and story that unfolds. Here it was clearly just to fill out time. And why the song used in the ending credit? It's not like we haven't already heard and will hear it several times throughout the series as is... That was just lazy.
  6. MrStitch: I don't think so. The extra discs are just for Shadow Chronicles and LLA.
  7. Selling six different add-on packs (in addition to all the possible VF-31 or VF-171 packs) sounds like a good way to saturate the market and loose consumer interest. Hopefully, the character specific parts comes with the Valks themselves and the Lil Drakens are sold seperately.
  8. Sandman, not yet. And I don't think we know if it might ever be released. But you can always buy a bare stand and put a sticker on it.
  9. Those hinges in the shield... :S And it will most likely be a visible seam line in fighter mode. No, it's just a bad idea.
  10. I always planned for my VF-0S to be dressed in the Reactive Armor. But when I now have had him displayed in Battroid mode waiting for the armor, I've become quite fond of the naked form... So now I feel I need another 0S. I say, bring on a bundle or re-release!
  11. Name-calling like this is not allowed by the forum rules. Remember that a lot of poeple here are fans of both Macross and Robotech.
  12. Bummer. I ordered with NY... For those out there that do not care about the misprint, I just want to let you know that I'm willing to buy your replacement part if you can get ahold of it for me.
  13. This episode was a step in the right direction. After the in my mind horrible preview episode, I decided to give this show four episodes until I decided to drop it or not. Now I will extend my tolerance to at least eight episodes.
  14. The Battroid sure looks really cool, but I wasn't that impressed by the transformation itself. Too much mecha origami for my taste. And I don't like the idea of the vertical stabilizer split down the middle to form a shield. I have a fear that it will not translate well into toy form. (While admittedly not completely fair, it reminds me of Astro Plan)
  15. Have you tried the Mospeada and Southern Cross DVD boxes? Although, they can be a bit hard to find these days.
  16. If you don't miss the old sound effects, I'd say the latest DVD set by A&E which has The Shadow Chronicles, LLA and the remastered version of The Seninels is the best. Then you have all the essentials. It lacks some extras like the Codename: Robotech pilot episode from the Protoculture Collection, but it's not a big loss.

    Bandai DX VF-31

If we're talking just the head designs, I would say S > C and the rest are too Frontier-ish and insectoid for my taste. (Note: Not a vote for the count, I still say the J based on colors and iconicity.)
  18. If so, one has to wonder how something like that ever evolved to look and act JUST like cats on Earth. Very unbelievable, but there's more severe things that break my suspension of disbelief in this series. Hey, maybe there was once a Proto-cat-culture that seeded planets...

    Hi-Metal R

A new trident stand? Yes!!! I've been planning my Robot Damashii collection around dioramas with three mecha. I was really bummed when I saw that they had been discontinued and the price of the clear one had skyrocketed. The whole thing felt strange knowing that a trident stand with the UN Spacy insignia had been used in marketing of the HMR line. Being able to vary the length of the arms would be good, but otherwise I'm personally hoping that they are not that much different from the old ones.
  20. Duke Togo, the prequels are perfectly valid references, regardless of what you think of them. As for whatever retcons Rebels bring to the table, I can't say as I haven't seen season 2. Although, from what I've gathered, those A-wings were seemingly not the same model as was used in The Battle of Endor. Remember that the X-wing and the Y-wing were called old, but they are less than twenty years old in ep. IV. You propose that 30+ year old crafts (or maybe closer to 40 years old due to Rebels) would still be in military use. It's still unprecendented in Star Wars. And why wouldn't a lot of systems flock to the Resitance after the events of ep. VII? They may be able to get ahold of a lot of new toys. We will see.
  21. Except both the original trilogy and the prequels showed a continuos development of new starfighters during war time. TIE Interceptors, A-wings and B-wings were all brand new starfighters in-universe and I won't list the myriad of newly developed crafts during the Clone Wars. The Resistance were able to fly advanced, brand new X-wings. They shouldn't need to keep ancient A- and B-wings like the Rebellion kept their Y-wings. And if we're talking new versions of the old "letter-wings", I just think it's unimaginative. I think it's time to use a whole new letter.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I liked the YF-30 because it was toned down, not as excessively slim and streamlined as the Frontier valks. It looked more realistic. The VF-31 looks good, but it's mostly a step back in my opinion.
  23. You clearly have a different definition of slapstick humor than me and we can leave it at that. And I'm not defending the Zentradi spies. They are too silly for my taste and is by far the weakest and most dated element of the original series in my opinon. Thankfully, their shenanigans never got a third of an episode dedicated to them like the mercat chase got here.
