A few more quick pics before I transform it to battroid, where it will spend most of its existence. It's so large and heavy that wooshing it around is a serious affair.

You see, I'm a guy of simple tastes. I enjoy dynamite, and gunpowder, and trading figures. And you know the thing that they have in common? They're cheap. You know, that trading figure Ranka is actually one of my favorite sculpts. I think it looks better than the recent Figuarts Zero Ranka; better pose and representation of the character. Not too shabby for only 800 yen. I'm no stranger to Ranka figures. Preordered the Basara Sheryl, of course. I'll wait till I see more pics of the nurse versions before I commit to those. Though I've been wanting Nurse Sheryl for some time now...

It's been nearly 5 years since I first saw it, but I finally have an Armored VF-25S. Things to note that may not have been mentioned previously: With the armor parts on the gunpod is not particularly secure when mounted in fighter mode. The set actually comes with a rather awkward clip that you can use to "bind" the legs together so they hold the gunpod more securely. Bandai opted not to paint the yellow and black stripes on the original hip armor that fits under the armored hip armor (god that sounds confusing), even though they did so for the super parts. Trivialities aside, it's such a huge and beautiful piece, and I haven't even transformed it yet. My Super VF-25F just looks so puny next to it. I love this thing. I'm just going to sit here and bask in its awesomeness for awhile.

The Figuarts Zero Sheryl & Ranka are much too big next to Ex Gear Alto. Last year's trading figures are very close in scale, however.

On my armor packs, in the off white area with the micro missiles on the wing packs, there's some tiny splotches of red paint here and there. Does anyone know if the off white is colored plastic or is painted? I really can't tell, and don't wish to use any chemicals to remove the flecks of red paint if it's not plastic underneath.

I only check this thread once every few weeks so I'm a little behind on the preorder madness. Is $340 at NY a good price, relatively speaking? Will other retailers be getting them? It's a beautiful bird, but that's a lot of money to drop on a toy...

Holy crap looks like Ozma made an emergency crash landing. EDIT: I just received my EX-Gear Alto figure today and noticed that the paint around the butt area of the armor was scraped. My first thought was "Why didn't Bandai just mold it in color?" Then I noticed that the front plates on the leg armors are made of metal. Why?? Is there a minimum die cast quota that Bandai has to utilize to keep their suppliers happy? Their use of die cast seems almost random at times.

The yellow and black stripes are completely covered by a separate armor plate in the show.

Disappointed by the news, but I'm still getting one. I hate having this big gap in VFs between the VF-1 and VF-11.

I was referring to the board as a whole when talking about people who didn't want a renewal, since it's a sentiment that's been going around amongst some. Sorry if I was unclear on that.

I'm curious as to why people are opposed to a renewal version. Even if Bandai did a reissue with the "improvements" some have suggested, you'll still have to buy an entirely new valkyrie to get those "improvements" anyway. Might as well just have them redesign it from the ground up and really do the design justice. What, you seriously think Bandai will release a separate option parts kit with new hips and make people take apart their units to swap them out? For something that's not actually defective? Is this a case of "I don't want Bandai to release a renewal 27 because I don't want to feel like I wasted my money like others have on the original DX 25s."? That's a silly position to take. If you liked and enjoyed your 27, then it's not a waste.

The 27 doesn't need a renewal version. Bandai just needs to release an option parts kit to swap out the arms, legs, feet, body, head, joints, wings, engines, cockpit, and figures.

The first time I transformed it back into fighter, I had the chest panels pop out. I found out that I could avoid it by leaving the chest panels all the way out as I push the chest downwards until it's almost all the way down before pushing the chest panels in. I haven't transformed it again since finishing my wash on it, so I'll have to review it again. I think I could also push the chest panels in only slightly, leaving them at an angle, so that when I did push the chest downward, it pushed the panels back up into its fighter mode position.

Does the VF-1D with option parts come with Hikaru and Minmay or does it only come with a generic pilot figure?

It's nice to be able to sit out of this preorder madness. But for all the people who wanted one but got the shaft from Bandai, this one's for you: F U BANDAI!!!

A good VF-1S scheme doesn't need to be all white with a few stripes. See Ozma's VF-25S.

The colors aren't bad, it's the rather haphazard arrangement and insistence on following Alto's YF-29 pattern (with tiger stripes) that is making look just weird to me. It really does look like someone at Bandai just went nuts with the pallette swapping. A real "VF-1S" color scheme should be more along the lines of the VF-0S or that pimp custom YF-19 someone did awhile back. Sometimes less is more.
