I was in Tokyo when the 25F was released, and though I scoured as many toy and hobby shops as I could, I managed to find only one 25F being sold at full retail price (14000 yen). And a YF-29 being sold for 36000 yen. This is just the experience of one person though, so take it for what it's worth.

Thank goodness I was already registered with AE from my YF-29 order. If I had to stop and register as a new customer, I wouldn't have made it in time; preorder had been open for like 10 minutes before I got to my computer because I was busy showering. That's right. I nearly missed out because I bathe daily.

If Bandai is so goddamn risk averse, they really ought to just allow Yamato to produce Frontier valkyries. Then Yamato takes the risk, Bandai gets to collect a % of the profits with little risk to themselves, and we might actually be able to buy without having to camp out websites in the hope of catching that tiny preorder window or dealing with scalpers. I'd be willing to pay more for a VF-171/25/27 if the quality was on par with Yamato's VF-19.

The fact that it happened in the middle of the night isn't what's really pissing people off. Being available for scarcely 5 minutes is what's ticking me and others off. Japanese aren't limited to a handful of online shops like we are, and those shops have English sections for a reason. Also, HLJ was started to serve international customers. Nice try, though.

I do blame them. Having reasons, good or bad, does not absolve Bandai of their responsibility in creating the current climate of shortages and scalping. By that same token, scalpers and those willing and able to pay such high prices and enabling said scalpers are also culpable. As are those who will only buy when there's a clearance sale. Such things don't encourage companies to produce more if it's just going to warm a shelf. So yeah, Bandai is still being pretty tightassed with their Macross releases. -

I've never been more pleased to be wrong about Bandai! I hope everyone who wants one will be able to get one without resorting to eBay. The last couple of releases have been kind of a bitch to get.

I ended up preordering from two different places in the hopes that I'll get just one. I'm not in the habit of buying multiples just so I can ebay off the extra, but that's exactly what's going to happen if I end up getting both orders fulfilled. Bandai deserves all the credit! -
Damn that's hot. I'm sold. I'm going to have to order Alto's as well. (Alto's should also come with a sniper rifle, IMO.)

I'm certain Bandai will reissue these; just a matter of when. Even the craptastic V1 line merited reissues with bundles...

Oh! Well, if you want to be picky about analogies, then we can compare it to the VF-11. Then the wait is only fifteen years. Feel better now? If we're going to see a real VF-171 toy release, I think it'll be years down the line when Yamato (or some other similar company) picks up the Frontier license. I don't see Bandai bothering with something like the 171.

The VF-171 is rapidly becoming Frontier's VF-4: everyone wants one but you'll probably have to wait 30 years for one. Given how stingy Bandai's production runs of the hero units have been, I don't see a 171 ever coming out. I hope Bandai proves me wrong since I'd love one too, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've love to get my hands on a renewal VF-27. Sorry, but I consider the VF-27 to be almost as big a disappointment as the original 25s. A well-polished turd is still a turd.

They sell both new and secondhand items. They'll tell you in the description if an item has been opened or is damaged, etc. These new Macross figures just came out, so I'd be quite surprised if they were selling opened ones already.
