  1. I guess you're trying to be funny, but I don't see how Basara being a "dumbass dork-ace" with a guitar has anything to do with real world physics and aerodynamics. I was merely wondering aloud if an aircraft with such tiny wings could fly in the real world. Thanks David H for providing an actual answer. Tried to find some links to aviation design blunders, and this is what I turned up. http://www.cracked.com/article_18839_7-planes-perfectly-designed-to-kill-people-flying-them.html
  2. A YF-29 reissue would be nice, as I have no desire to drop a car note on one.
  3. Could something with such large engine blocks and small wings actually fly? Not that I'm knocking this beautiful design, mind you.
  4. True enough. I don't bother with clear coat since it's a hassle disassembling a valkyrie and I'm pretty lazy. Though I do want to ask (for those that do clear coat) how you avoid matting over parts that should remain shiny/glossy, like the visor? They don't look like they come off very easily...
  5. LMAO! I mean, you need to get it wet and then wipe at it for it to come off. From my own experience, it's nearly impossible to wipe the stuff out of panel line grooves, even when wet.
  6. If it were, say, 90% off, then I'd consider it.
  7. Thanks Reïvaj! I used Pro Modeller's wash, which is super easy to use. No need to deal with paint thinner or anything like that. After it dries, you just wipe off the excess with a moist paper towel. http://www.florymodels.co.uk/buy-the-wash/ The wash will adhere and not come off unless you get it wet. You're supposed to clear coat it afterwards, but I didn't bother doing that on my valkyries, since I never expose them to water.
  8. Trying to shift blame away from Yamato for choosing crappy materials and blaming the user for not playing with it enough because plastic "atrophies" from disuse like human muscle is pretty goddamn retarded. This thing came out in December 2006, so it's exactly 5 years old, not "almost 6 years" old. And I've had my 1/48s even longer, they're handled about as frequently, and they haven't had the slew of problems that the YF-19 has had. I guess from your point of view, all those people whose VF-25s became floppy messes and cracked from sitting on the shelf are to blame too, because they should've played with their valkyries more. It's definitely not Bandai's fault for bad engineering and materials. Hey, my Takatoku SDF-1 toy is over a quarter of a century old, and it also gets transformed about once a year, with no signs of cracking anywhere. It must secretly be hitting the gym when I'm not home.
  9. Man, as much as I love the YF-19, it's just been one disappointment after another. First the crooked gunpod, then the landing gear that don't come down all the way, then the exploding arms, and now I've just noticed a big crack that's appeared on the back of my YF-19's right leg. Has this happened to anyone else? I'd like to note that I don't transform my valkyries that often, nor am I particularly rough with them. My YF-19 has been transformed maybe five times in the five years since I bought it. This is just disappointing.
  10. Not my absolute favorites, but I finally took the time to do a simple wash on my VF-1s and wow! The details really pop now.
  11. Slightly off-topic, but I just noticed the unbuilt SDF-1 Macross kit comes with glow in the dark markings. Does the completed version come with those as well? If not, is there any way of obtaining said markings?
  12. Thanks guys. I decided on the B since the C's gunpod is kinda wimpy looking and I'd rather have Isamu than random unnamed Spiritia-drained pilot man.
  13. What's the new hip connection on the VF-1? Did they make it so it's not a goddamn pain to pop the hip bar out from battroid mode? Trying to decide on the 11B or 11C...
  14. Damn you guys! I don't really like Macross 7, but from all your pics, the VF-19 looked too damn awesome to pass up! Managed to snag one for only 13000 yen.
  15. He does. He just never lands with both guns. Unless you count ditching your flaming aircraft into the ocean as landing.
  16. For once, I like the Sheryl figure more than Ranka. Ranka looks... too old? I'll probably pick them all up whenever they come out.
  17. Hope they use the purple canopy and sensors rather than the blue ones on the final VF-25F.
  18. Could you elaborate on why it was so disappointing to you? I really just want it for the fighter mode. One thing is certain: I'm not paying half a grand for one.
  19. Please do. I missed the preorder window and would like one. I'm fairly certain that's just an early production sample anyway, since the head is missing some details too.
  20. As far as the VF-25 is concerned, I think the cockpit and pilot were underscaled from the start in the CG model. Compounded by the fact that, yes, the canopy and cockpit walls are proportionally thicker on a scale model/toy than they would be on the full size machine. Plastic is a lot weaker than whatever futuristic alloys the VF-25 uses.
  21. So do you like the renewal sculpt or not? You seemed to avoid that question in your review, and I remember you saying in your original DX review that you hated how thin the VF-25 looked in the series and said how great it looked fattened up. Have you changed your mind since or is that still true? Otherwise, good review. Really shows how craptacular the original release was. And you know what, I have a much better view of the pilot figure now.
