  1. There is a third kind of collector. I'm what I would define as a "art" collector (I have a lot of actual art too). Not very much of what I have as far as toys goes is about being tied to a show/characters (aside from SDFM). I get toys because I think they're pleasing to my eye. I can't say I even enjoy transforming them for transformation sake. For me it's all about the presentation/display. Transformation/posing is a tool to complete that goal. For most toys if it has multiple modes, I get one for each mode and display them simultaneously. If I'm not too turned on by a mode I don't get one for that. I very, very rarely change my displays up once they're done. -I don't buy for nostalgia (aside from SDFM). -I don't buy for character tie ins. -I don't have any drive to finish a line/set. If there are six in a series and I really dig two, I get just those two. -I don't have anything I don't display. -I don't buy to "play with". I barely have time to un-box/transform/display as it is. I'm not passing judgement on any form of collecting. I understand the drives for all of them. I just do it the way I do it because it makes me happy to look at them.
  2. This is something missing from the business I'm in. People give glowing reviews despite the item being crap. I'm sure a lot of it is that people don't want to admit to themselves that they just spent $7500+ on the wrong thing. And some of it is because they're not qualified to review it. It's really hard for the customers that haven't purchased yet. They have to wade through the marketing lies from the manufacturers and then the faux reviews to spend big chunks of money. It's a shame. It's so bad that I have been attacked (not literally, I'm a pretty scary dude) for giving accurate reviews on things I have purchased with my own money. It's kinda bonkers really. Just about everyone will agree that if you purchase something with your own money you're entitled to your opinion/review (in a vacuum). That is until they have the same thing and their emotionally attached/invested to/into it. I've had guys come at me like I just told them their new girlfriend used to party with the whole hockey team.
  3. So, if we get hammered while playing with toys are we having "Tea Time"?
  4. I'm hoping that we get the VF-1S Roy as well as the YF-21. When the Roy is released I'm planning on doing a "timeline display" with most (I'll leave out the garbage) of the VF-1S Roy's from the Chunky Monkey till current.
  5. To be fair, it does have competition.
  6. Collectors Toy - Bandai DX Strike & Super Parts Set - A Little Too Much Tampo - Hollow On The Inside - May Not Be As Good As 20yr Old Yamato If you're going to go full description, why mess around? A buddy/employee says "Looks like you got some new dolls" every time he walks in my office. That dirty rat!
  7. I see a couple of you mentioned Skullface. Does someone know him? Or were you guys referencing someone he knows? I just ran across his YouTube channel. I like it. I like the short "pod casts" on toy subjects. I like his review style too. I wish he did more that covered a more lines. Not judging, everyone has their thing. Jenius is great for Macross stuff and Kuma is great for Super Robots, Gundam (that dirty rat got me liking Gundam!) and Primes.

    Hi-Metal R

    @sh9000 you're a madman!
  9. I'm guessing they did them this way to allow for more attractive GBP?
  10. Just got my PO notice to pay on these two dudes. Start shipping right away. Pretty excited!
  11. I would add, all fighters have landing/flight lights. They keep them turned off for combat.
  12. You win this thread today!
  13. Looks pretty cool aside from the LH leg being tipped in at a weird angle and I'd rather see the cannon up in a shooting position opposed to a low ready. But it's s statue. I'll pay $1000+ for a Bandai Metal Structure VF-1S Roy w/ Strike Packs with no hesitation. Statues of Mecha do nothing for me.
  14. Fewture/Ex Gokin makes some beautiful stuff. I've got a lot of their Super Robots. They're also some of my favorites. I considered getting one of these because it was Ex Gokin more than my love for Garlands.
  15. I just checked two of mine. Canopies are shut all the way. But yes, the pilot is pretty much right up against them. I'd call it "perfect". The 1J's have a pilot that is too small.
  16. I/people are only able to work with what you give them. You didn't give much. The only thing that can be done with that sort of post is some assumption. You made the point that one should not assume. And you're not wrong. I would also like to make a point. If you don't want your posts mis-construed, Try using more than three words. A "let's meet in the middle" type of situation.
  17. YetiStands are beefy. I have a YetiStand with two Yammie 1/48's kitted out with Super Packs. No problem! Also, no issue with tipping.
  18. Value is in the eye of the beholder. Most people (non toy collectors) would say $300 is way too much. They would probably say $100 is way too much. Diamonds are another example. You can get 100% perfect chemically identical diamonds for a small fraction of what "real" ones cost. Yet people still buy "real" diamonds because it's worth it to them. IMO telling someone that a purchase they made is "not worth it" or "too much money" is like telling them that they're wrong about their favorite color. If looked at logically toy collecting at all is spending "way too much money". What's that phrase that comes to mind? Oh yeah. "Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".
  19. Miller Light!!! Take that back!
  20. I think he's talking about the stand that came with the 1J's. It's not the most secure thing in the world with just the Valk on it. With the Strike packs it's probably pretty scary. The stand adapter that comes with the Strike Packs doesn't fill me with the warm and fuzzies.
