I guess once again this puts me in the minority: I actually like this show I like how the characters don't always get along with each other, I enjoy the fact that they're trying to deal with basics such as air, food, water and whatnot instead of just handwaving it away by saying "it's matter replicators!" and "it's a big ship with lots of food, no worries!". I also really enjoy the way it's shot, a very different style from SG-1 and Atlantis and it's a nice breath of fresh air. As for having too many questions, I don't mind that at all. I enjoy season-long arcs and being able to put puzzle pieces together over the course of episodes. Is it perfect? No. But it's quite a bit more entertaining than BSG ever was

It's good that you're doing this. 'Cuz it was a given that if you didn't, some of us were going to light some torches, get some pitchforks, and storm your home and force you to accept gobs of our cash Seriously, I've been less than impressed with some of the details of these 1/48 kits (not that that stopped me from buying them) and anything from you to fill in that void would be a very welcome thing indeed. (Plus hovertanks and Glitter Boys, too )

Upon a third viewing, I have to say that I really like the cold, cold, cold opener they used for the show. It really helped to sell the seriousness of the situation the crew found themselves in.

That being said, the trailer for the new Nightmare on Elm Street looks really good. I give that remake a tentative anticipation.

Robotech. Doubly guilty since I enjoy it much more than Macross

Nah, just a regular Ancient one. ... although they did surmise that the ship had been through a battle. A battle with whom, though?

I believe Akino was the first living organism to orbit the earth, a dog. It was a test that it was possible to survive in a pressurized capsule in microgravity.

I dunno about that. The first season of SG-1 had the "good guys" running a reporter over with a car because he discovered the program. That's pretty mature and non-cheesy...

Yup, which borrowed it from and that from and that from... But I was really talking about how as soon it was announced that it was "darker and edgier" that the interwebs lit up with cries of "copying BSG! Thieves! Unoriginal!" and on and on. I didn't get any of that from this first episode, and I hope the ones to come stay that course and do their own show.

I was referring more to the plots and "feel" of the show rather than the way it was shot. And that's a good thing, since I truely despise the hard-zoom that BSG employed (and abused). And I agree that this is a huge style shift from the first two series', and that's a big plus in my book. This ship is suppsoed to be old and it does seem that way, unlike Atlantis which was so clean you'd think a cleaning crew came in after each day to scrub it down.

I liked it. I enjoy the way it's shot, it just oozes atmosphere. Because of the gritty set design I can understand people referencing BSG (and the knee-jerk reaction to compare anything to anything popular) but I honestly didn't see it. The factional infighting will be interesting to watch. I enjoyed how people didn't immediatly begin working like an anthive and actually voiced their complaints. Plus Dr. Rush seems like such a magnificent bastard, and I mean that in a good way

4th is good if you use the mini's to really get a handle on combat and whatnot. If you don't use minis or play-by-post/IRC, then you're hosed.

V remake - new TV series coming to ABC
CoryHolmes replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
What happened is in the mid-1930s someone wrote a book called "It Can't Happen Here", which detailed the rise of a fascist state in America, complete with secret police, concentration camps, political assassination. A few years later someone read it and decided to make a miniseries out of it, but the network rejected it as being too "cerebral" and "anti-American". So the badguys were changed from fascists and replaced with aliens and thus V was born. Kinda makes sense when you think about the Resistance groups and rebel heroes, eh? -
That's exactly the reason why I enjoy Alien3. It brought the Alien back to being a cunning ambus predator where you had to worry if you had ONE to deal with. I guess Aliens is along the same deal as Conservation of Ninjitsu

I draw the line at any blank-pop singers. Spears, Perry, urm... that other one, Aguleria-something. I honestly think they're all interchangable. And it's not my priorities that are out of whack, blame the rest of society!

I'm going to agree on both counts. All three counts when we include 4E, since I don't like that much. Another of my guilty pleasures: classical music. When people talk about how they like "the classics", I know I've got 95% of them beat by at least two centuries

I don't know how well Robert Rod. will do with this. He's good friends of Tarintino and I'm not a fan of his films.

The bolded parts are my favourite. At the start, the monsters were strong because they had bigger/more muscles. The ones that could shoot used lasers. Some had acid for blood, or enhanced senses, or could jump because of leg design... it all seemed fairly plausable and not too "far out". I also enjoy the designs for the Zoalords, but their abilities are just too absurd for my liking. One controls gravity while another has lightning? One can teleport stuff from A to B? One is a living tree and one is a giant brain? Ugh, no thanks. This is my stop, lemme offa this bus! The author decided that the Guyver Gigantic wasn't gigantic enough so he increased its size to Godzilla/Super Sentai size: The author heard your appeal, it would seem. He's introduced a new character:

Okay, okay. I give. Unnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnncle. I guess the phrase I'm looking for here is "there's no accounting for taste" It didn't remind me of Gasaraki per se, just that the design was IMO (apparently ) clean and without distraction. That PA is a walking tank, so it's got solid armour plating, no horns or control panels or weird plated projections for Look Cool Factor. Leave that for Gundam, Eva, and all the rest.

The Xbox 360 Thread Pro Edition
CoryHolmes replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Same here, but I guess they made some gameplay concessions. Like letting a Spartan flip a multi-ton tank one-handed. Sure, it's not quite "real" but it beats losing a flipped-over tank on a mandatory vehicle section. -
The new animated series is quite open-ended because the main manga series hasn't finished yet I will admit that one of the things I dislike about the manga (and therefore, the latter half of the animated series') is just how much "bigger" everything got. We started off with Zoanoids who were strong, some who were fast, some who had lasers, etc. Now we're at the point of needing a Guyver upgrade, Zoanoids who have absurd levels of powers, and don't even get me started on the Zoalords... The whole storyline would be much more enjoyable if it didn't have quite as much power-creep to it.
