The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
VFTF1 replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hmm... Boobs, drugs and robots. I need to stop mopping and watch Gunbuster! A quick question though: I have seen and totally love the SOC Gunbuster which is sadly not easy to get my hands on.. But I also like the Dix Neuf which apparently is also part of Gunbuster lore? Is there anything bigger than the Revoltech Dix Neuf out there? Pete -
I'm of the same frame of mind. Mastergrade kits are known to be quality kits. Kotobukiya is hit and miss. Votoms are kind of boring and Robot Damashi kind of takes all the fun out of a Gundam. Although personally -I wouldn't want any of the four Pete

LOL Ok ok...I'll grant we're being a bit repetetive... but look - we already got ONE guy to want to go check out Fire Bomber's music just because we're so crazily persistant - see: That proves this thread is not a regurgitated waste of time that simply rehashes the same ol' same ol'... Although... sometimes I think my laptop could do with the same function that cell phones have for text messages - that is a stash of generic text messages that can quickly be sent like "busy, will call back" or "in the car" or "in a meeting" My laptop could do with generic "Pro-Bassara argument" tags or something Pete -
Huh? Which guy? Pete

VFTF1 replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah...I don't even remember the shove...I do remember the escape pod...and something..I seriously was by that point in the movie dosing off. In fact, I need to erase that movie from my hard drive. It's just taking up space. I dunno...or maybe I should watch it again to see if I like it? Nu Gundam is pretty cool. Rz-Gz is also neeto. I like the mecha in the show, that's for sure... and I guess Char's plan is interesting... hmm... But...hmm... I dunno... there's just something wrong with it... Maybe I'm having a bad day. VFTF1 replied to Mari-ja's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah, but his singing isn't l'art pour l'art. It's not some etherial thing that exists for its' own sake, nor even for the sake of Bassara's ego. His singing exists to move mountains - his singing exists to change people's hearts. His singing is oriented unto the Other. Thus, Bassara is oblivious to particular people around him because...as he sings "Come on People...my soul for you!" ... Bassara is totally empathetic to the greater whole of humanity - which sometimes makes him cold towards those near him. On the OTHER hand - he isn't totally aloof. I mean - he DOES interact with Mylene and the others - it's just that usually Mylene is focused on not embarassing themselves in front of "important people," sticking to the schedule, and planning planning planning. Bassara is all about doing what is important rather than impressing important people, letting things happen in their own good time and not according to schedule, and improv, improv improv - or more accurately - flow from the heart. So really - to say that Bassara is somehow totally not connected or concerned with people close to him isn't true. He just has a totally different way of approaching things and nobody understands him until his music penetrates their hearts. My point, aside from the "do as Bassara would do unto his enemies" was also to say that Agent One is totally cool for his passionate determination to fight against M7. In fact - Agent One is kind of just like Bassara who is also passionate about convincing others to see his point of view. Loads of similarities - probably why I like both of them Pete -

Unhappily for you - that would be me, but I'm also your biggest fan A contradiction, you might say - but not really. You see - Macross 7 lovers are FORBIDEN from hating on, trolling, or in any way bad-mouthing M7 haters. It's just NOT what Bassara would do. Also - it is kind of to be expected that if you LIKE Basara and share his values, then you kind of expect people to not like you and be against you No need for a face to face discussion then - M7 lovers will convince you through the power of song, or, failing that, through the power of repetition...but once they start down the dark path of arguing with you or hating on you...they will forever be consumed by the forces of evil, and all hope will be lost. Anyways - just look how much Bassara respected his enemies - he respected them more than his friends because he spent most of his time focused on how to break through the hatred and come to a common understanding with his enemies. This should be the guiding light of most M7 fans - not getting annoyed when someone points out the obvious problems with the anime, like gay red robots that shoot speakers blaring J-pop. M7 fans should embrace this criticism and, like mirrors, shine its' true inner beauty light back at their critics... but never get annoyed or pissy about it:) So you can go ahead and rag on M7 - I will defend you! Pete -
Actually - could you please elaborate on that? I'm not familiar with exactly what you're talking about - but I am very interested in hearing it. I can "guess" - but I'd rather you spelled it out please Pete

I agree with Dirk Bennedict 101%. I love the article. I never read the whole thing - just snippets from wiki which I loved - but this..wow. This guy is cooler than I thought for writing this article. Hell - I think I'm going to invest in every show, movie, commercial and whatever else Dirk Benedict was ever in just to show my support for this dude. And mind you - no - I am not judging the New BSG, which I haven't seen (and what I have seen seemed interesting actually) - but I am simply saying I like what this guy wrote. I think a lot of it is true, and I like his unrepentent masculinity and willingness to stick up for guys being guys. Pete EDIT: Ok - now I am positively amazed at Dirk Benedict. Clearly the guy has a solid classical education OR is an amazingly good thinker and writer - a true artist...on the same website, I found this: http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/dbenedic...ult/#more-26201 Again - it's not that I hate Mickey Mouse - it's more that I really like Dirk's ability to be introspective, I like the fact that he has a farm in Montana where he chops wood (since I happen to have a farm and chop wood and also think stuff like this while gathering the wood)... This guy's cool! I'm gonna have to go back and watch the original Battle Star Galactica. -

I'm even more radical! I think that Bandai needs to build a 1:1 VF-19 Kai fire Valkyrie, put Yoshiki Fukayama in it and blare Fire Bomber music NON STOP for EVER. Pete -

Oh yeah - I read that. I liked that guy. He and I could have a beer and come to an understanding But he shouldn't be that mad - the worse thing to do is get pissed at the new times. Better to be reserved about it. There are still girls out there who love guys like the original Starbuck. But no girl likes a whiny guy. But yeah...I remember reading that... Pete -

Wait. I watched Char's Counter Attack... and I DIDN'T notice that Amuro dies?? Maybe this is when I really did fall asleep... But all I remember is all the Zeons and Gins trying to stop the asteroid and then some christmas lights came on and the end credits rolled. How could I have missed Amuro dying? Pete- 3823 replies

Am I to infer that since lesbians (because we're talking about lesbians here, right?) love Starbuck - then Starbuck is a woman... or is it some butch thing where they admire him and want to be like him even though they aren't men? Pete -

VFTF1 replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I do too. But what can I say? I just love the show that much I'd make time to watch Gurren Lagann first, of course! There's even an episode about this in Gurren Lagann, when our heros are lured into a spa full of bunny girls, masseuses, erotic lolis and harem who all turn out to be wearwolves intent on eating them. In the end, butt-naked, our heros fight their way out of the pleasure den. Moral: when women tempt you to watch BSG, even if they are lesbians, they are really wearwolves whose erotic play den is actually a giant robot that will pee your nude remains out of its' butt. Hm. Technically possible, but why do two sub-par things at the same time as doing the most interesting thing (GL being more interesting than even a live lesbian show) You also had lesbians come to you requesting that you watch their BSG collection? If it's any consolation - I am 100% positive that the girl who showed me the one episode of BSG 4 years ago was ALSO a lesbian. Sure of it. So - the question must surely go out then: what is it with Battle Star Galactica and Lesbians? Pete -
Well - yes - ok you're right. I'm being overly harsh. I was very impressed with the first batch of Revoltechs - and now looking back, comparatively, the sculpts AND the poseability has gotten insanely better. It's just that, with the new VF-1 transformable, I feel like quoting Padme: "Kaiyodo - You're going down a path I can't follow...(sniff,sniff)...come back!...stop!...I Love you!" To which Kaiyodo seems to be saying: "Stupid fanboy! Love won't save you! Only our new revolver technology powers combined with crappy transformations can do that!" And you know the rest... Pete
-
Actually - that's a good point. It should at least have a sound system that blairs out Do You Remember Love Pete
-
I dunno. I'm waitng on my Bainfukker (or whatever his name is) and AllSpaizer set. Should finally have it soon. I agree that it's expensive, like other SOCs - say, Dancouga - but it's also far more rewarding as a SOC. I guess the thing is - to me - Revoltechs cost too much. Back when they were like 15 or 16 USD or 1500 JPY - that was fine. But nowadays these things are going for between 2 and 3 thousand JPY. Forget even the bad exchange rate - the yen retail price has sky rocketed...and for what? The transforming VF-1 abomination? That thing basically costs half of a Yamato VF-1 almost. That's crazy. Revoltechs are appealing if they are CHEAP little super poseable well sculpted action figures. But of late, Revoltech have become EXPENSIVE little super poseable well sculpted action figures. That defeats the purpose - since Bandai and Yamato already do that with die cast and ABS and they do it better. Pete
-
Yeah - that happened to me once too. Initially I thought that one of the mods decided to semi-ban me for all the indecent and pornographic remarks I keep making... thankfully I soon discovered that I had just unwittingly switched from standard view Pete
