Well in all fairness...what did people expect them to look like? I mean..."transformable Revoltech" doesn't sound right because if your focus is super poseability - to the point of actually being perfectly anime accurate - then you really can't incorporate transformation as well. It's just not possible - especially not with revolver joints. Pete

That's a pretty significant difference if you ask me. I mean, there are no Robotech Masters in Macross - so if you add them, then it's not Macross any more. And Max and Hikaru reminiscing over their escape vs. talking about going to a party - little things like that make a difference too because a series like this is all about building character arcs - those arcs are built up of several small events and how characters react to them and what they say and think. Change those little things and the big picture of the character is ruined. As for Roy - Macross establishes that he's not a GI Joe-quoting Presidents-hero type. In Macross Zero, we find out why - namely he joined the military despite hating war because his friend was killed in a bombing raid during the Unification Wars. We can presume that he, like Shin, was traumatized and wanted to take action - but after a while all he wanted was for the ground to "stop shaking"... In SDFM TV Roy seems to be laid back, like enjoying life, and just wants to survive and protect those he loves and holds dear. He also clearly loves flying a Valkyrie and wants to impart this to Hikaru. I never watched the Dub, but I always prefered the sub-titles of the original work... Pete

Nice idea with the Green Lantern. You rarely see him. I haven't had a chance to celebrate Haloween since 1990. In Poland, rather than Haloween, they had Dead People's Day (literal translation). On Dead People's Day, you got to the cemetary, clean your relative's graves, light some candles, lay a fresh reath of flowers, celebrate mass and go home. Since people's dead relatives are often buried hundreds of miles from where they live, the entire country commutes which causes more Dead People due to constant traffic accidents. Thankfully, my grandmother is buried about 15 minutes from my house, so it's not a problem. There have been sporadic halloween celebrations here - sometimes... usually in schools, they would throw halloween parties and kids could dress up... But no trick or treating and no mass celebration of the event. If I could once again celebrate Haloween at some point in the future, I'd love to dress up as Kamina from Gurren Lagann or some other character of that sort... Pete

Hm. So...you complain about Haruhi picking on Mikuru... But I have yet to hear of Haruhi DEFLATING Mikuru's breast I mean, making her dress as a frog or forcing her to get undressed - heck even spiking her milk with vodka and forcing her to do soft core porn... None of those are as bad as reducing her breast size and her hips Mikuru's figure was attractive the way it was now I feel sorry for Mikuru... I need to go and hug my Revoltech and Figma Mikuru and promise them that I'll never swap their thighs and breast for smaller ones... Pete

Thanks for clearing that up I'm now a little bit happier. I've built Gundam's main body. Dag - the skeltal frame is exactly the same as the RGM-79-GM. Identical. Not that that's a bad thing - I guess GM is mass production... anyways... I really love the hydraulics inside the shoulders.... After Gundam, I'm gonna build Gouf. Then I'll finish off with Guncannon. I have to admit though, that the longer I own it, the more I like my Force Impulse Gundam. I'm looking forward to the new Astrea blue frame as well. While I don't like the SEED shows, I do like the mecha - they're pretty well designed. Gotta hand it to the Force Impulse, but it is a great great mecha and it makes me curious about other seed mecha. But in general, I'm finding that the recent kits so totally blow earlier kits out of the water (by earlier I mean like...3 years ago)... that I'd prefer to wait and see what new kits from SEED Bandai produces - or SEED related (like the Astrea) rather than reaching back for the old ones... I do hope we get a v.2 Unicorn - really could use one. The Katoki one is ok - but KA are generally kind of bad. And I'm not talking about the "industrial" outer frame - but the weak inner frames. Oh well...back to building... Pete

Well, in fairness to Bandai - it's the design of animo EVA I don't like, so my reaction would have been the same for the Revoltech and other versions as well. As to the new EVA 05....haven't seen the movie...don't know how it moves...generally not impressed by the design either. I just prefer the original three EVA designs from the first series is all and I also prefer the series ending (episodes 25 and 26) to the "End of Evangelion" Movie). I'm just that old fashioned ;P Pete

Hm... wouldn't it have made more sense to just have Sheryl get down on all fours? Pete

Recently, I've been listening to nothing but Soul Asylum's Misery over and over again. Really good song. I like Rock Ballads like that... Need to go buy Journey...I lost my Journey CDs.... Pete

That Hikaru is indeed good. But the Roy Fokker is the best! Awesome hair As for Alto and Max... Polidread... Is there an explanation for why Michael and Alto are wearing what appear to be 25 inch high heel stiletos? Did they just get out of their day jobs at the strip cluB?

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?
VFTF1 replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
Oh yeah. You're right. I guess my memory was playing selective tricks on me - remembering one piece of information abstracted from all context... Pete -
The anima EVA is horribly ugly. I've got the version 2.0 So spec and I am sticking with that. That Unicorn looks good... what is it - is it a model or a finished piece? As to golden fist of doom...I'm also like "meh." Not interested. I just want the Mazinger colors and the transformation is good too. Pete

Which Zeta Gundam is that? The 2.0 MG? I've got the 2.0 MG sitting on my shelf waiting for its' turn... For now, I've started the RX-78-2 version 2.0 Dissapointing start. The Core fighter's wing is really floppy...although...actually...I'm just bitching. I mean - it's supposed to remain in fixed posed and transform and it does that... it's just I think I damaged or nicked one of the pegs on one of the wings making it a bit looser than I'd like... what a BAD day I've been having today... But I'll return to work tonight. The main body seems to use the same engineering/ mechanics as the version 2.0 Gim... Pete

Actually - either their marketing studies contradict my common sense, or Kayodo blew it big time because... If they were intent on capitalizing on Macross and their Macross license, they could have given us something that doesn't exist on the market AT ALL and that I'm sure fans would gobble up: Fraulein Misa, Fraulein Minmey, Fraulein Ranka, Fraulein Sheryl. Instead we get these piece of crap rejects. Pete

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?
VFTF1 replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hm. Kind of an aside here - but given how much Exedol knew about the Protoculture, and given his title of "archivist" - you would think the Zendradi kept...you know...archives - a written record of the history of the Protoculture. Although - it seems that this knowledge was only available to a few, and we see that you could have been killed if you found out the true history of the Zendradi without official approval - but still... Um...my point/question is this: Given that Exodol KNEW about the Protodevilin in Macross 7.... do you think that he would have figured out why the Vajra were after Ranka, and therefore cut Macross Frontier down to two, three episodes tops, if he was there? And even in HIS abscence - wouldn't the NUNS have detailed records on the Vajra garnered from the Zendradi archives which SURELY were shared with humanity? Or...am I making a mistake somewhere? Pete -
Fcuk it! I'll go on Doug Bendo's podcast! Nobody has a penis as big as mine! Bring 'em on! Pete

Michael's hair is the hardest thing to cosplay about him, I would think Good job - but you could work more on the hair... it looks like he's got three shards of hair sticking out bellow his quaf, and then one little scottish/willowish yarn hanging off one side... Generally Macross Frontier characters have some of the most complicated hairdos I've ever seen in a super robot show... People would ask how Hikaru kept his hair like that... but the fact is, Hikaru just had long hair that kind of whisked forward...although... then again...I guess that's hard to do too...how many Hikaru cosplayers have you seen with good hair? Still - this is a good effort. But the hair needs more work Pete

My sentiments exactly. These are pretty much like Transformers but made of rubbery plastic and with revolver joints rather than ball joints. I don't mean that as a compliment. Look - the nose is was too far out - you can see the chest doesn't "fold" over the cockpit at all, making for a kind of Macross II elongated battroid. The big revoltech joints in the upper legs just stick out like a sore thumb. I'm not saying that, for the price, it's not worth it... Or maybe...no... For the price - it's not worth it. So what if it's 2500 JPY retail? It looks like the limbs just hang in mid air with no connection to the battroid. I dunno. A for effort. It's fun that they're experimenting with transformable revoltechs. But personally - I would have preffered it if, instead of taking on something as complex as Macross, they maybe did a transformable Getter Robo or something like that. This just doesn't look like it'll work. Pete

But there are no brown cows... chickens can be brown when they're Kentucky Fried... hm... Robotech fans! Come back to us! We need you, lest this thread descend into intelligent discussion or attempts at discovering the best way to write out the sound-track to bad 70s porn! Pete

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.6

Oh brother I like the armor. My Armored Ozma is great. Come on - you guys are being too harsh. Remember the armored 1/48 from Yamato? I mean - it also had a limited range of poseability and had SOME parts popping off. SOME. SOMETIMES. Although mine never had any popping off... Actually - speaking of popping off... Who says the DX Armored has parts popping off? Which parts? Hell - yesterday, I had to take the armor off of my Alto to put the Sheryl Nome decals on him and I had trouble getting the stuff OFF. NOTHING was "popping" off. I was holding him upside down by the leg and NOTHING fell off. Are you sure you're attaching the armor correctly? If anything - it's super tight. My one small gripe with the DX is that it feels a bit limited on the poseability side...like it's straining to strike a pose... Yamato's version 2.0 is far far more fluid on this point. But really - seriously - honestly - the DX is just fine. I'm happy with it. good job Bandai. Pete -
Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.6

I present the VF-25F Sheryl Gaurd - Battroid mode: I couldn't resist cramming the VT-1 in there as well On a personal note - I have warmed more and more to Bandai's DX. I mean - I play with my DXs far more than with my Yamatos; just like I play with my Soul of Chogokin far more than with Yamatos. There is something to be said for the die-cast and the durability factor. I mean - how many times have you guys played with your VF-0s? I'm not knocking Yamato for doing what it does - I'd be the last person to criticize them - but I am saying that I appreciate Bandai which finds a perfect balance between durability and line-accuracy/aesthetics. I think the comparissons of Bandai's DX to the Yamato version 1.0 valks or the Pluses is not right because if you'll recall, the YF-21 was a flopppy mess that could not stand up. The YF-19 was just but ugly in both modes. I mean - the DX is not as bad as that...is it? In any event - I am happy with it. Skeptic turned fan. -
Best John Conor voice: Haven't you learned anything yet? Haven't you figured out that you don't need big boobs to be the idol songstress of the Galaxy? Seriously though - to me - Macross Frontier had a heck of a lot of substance. There was a ton of good content...again...go back to the sixteen zillion pages of threads per episode that were written on this board as people watched the series... I think people just tend to forget the specifics and remember the "flash" because it was indeed flashy - but there was a lot of thought put into it - a lot of good meaty substance. As for Itano and mecha and "taking hardware seriously" etc etc... Umm...I dunno... I mean - can Itano really say that MF didn't take mecha seriously? Were the designs of the valkyrie or the ships lacking in detail, not thought out well, badly done? I mean - there was plenty of good mecha action in the show - to make it sound lilke there was nothing but lolicon moe for 26 episodes straight is wrong. Ok - true - there weren't that many "huge" battles - but the mecha WERE always in some kind of action throughout the series - whether valkyrie, destroids, colony ships, Macross class ships, EX armor....lots and lots of stuff. No reason to complain that mecha was somehow under-represented or sidelined. Pete

Who's to say she didn't? We only saw the Vajra attacking Earth etc - but technically Grace could have ordered attacks EVERYWHERE where there was a thread or potential threat to her power. It would have been cool if Kawamori had given us a glimpse of the Supervision Army getting attacked - but then again, he could also have dedicated an episode to the Superdimensional porn-bunnies that no doubt exist ....but you just can't fit everything into the series... You guys only complain about the DX because none of you have the 1:60 VF-25F "Sheryl Gaurd" ...and I do - I'll take some better pics on the stand tomorrow - after I've finished customizing the battroid. I just got so pissed off at having lost three parts of my 1/72 that I decided to use the Sheryl Nome decals on the 1:60. Bit grunge - but I like it... Pete -
The Sheryl Nome decals were available seperately and actually they were - as far as I know - exclussives that were available free from Bandai for a limited time and can't be gotten easily... which is why I am a very sad body right now given I have lost/can't find parts B1, J8 and i-5 :( :( Pete

Yeah, but all I'm saying is the general populace will see Robotech - transforming machines and people running around - and say "meh - been there, done that." Transformers has cornered the market for transforming giant robots. To succeed - Robotech would have to have what Macross had in it - the whole concept of the Zendradi as a bio-engineered race of warriors that have been de-culturized, the love triangle, the singing....you know the drill - the essence of Macross. If it's just a bunch of aliens attacking Earth - then that's Independence day. Been there done that 10 years ago. If the Earthlings have transforming robots on their side - again - been there done that with Michael Bay... I'm seeing "Battlefield Earth" flash before my eyes (and I didn't see that movie, just the cover to a dvd or something) - but Robotech LAM will suck that bad. Also - remember one thing about Holywood - they will produce anything. So what if HG has Holywood interested in producing Robotech as a LAM? Hell - a zillion crap directors and screen writers have somebody in Holywood interested in squeezing out the next turd. "Holywood is interested" or even "WB is interested" means nothing unless you hear who's on board. Transformers had Stephen Spielburg and then Michael Bay on board. Not saying those guys never made a bad movie - but at least with names like those you know that there's an ATTEMPT being made to treat the thing seriously and make a hit. Robotech...so far only Tobby Macguire has been mentioned - and I wouldn't call him a serious name. How many hit movies has Toby Macguire made? MADE - not "been in" - but MADE. ?? Pete
