  1. OH. MY. GOD! That looks SO like my girlfriend it's not even funny! The hair, the clothes and the constantly pissed-off-at-Pete face:) This is so totally her! Pete
  2. So THAT'S what Nu Gundam's clothing rack is for! I always wondered about that. Pete
  3. Re: Those cosplay/AV/porn pictures: Dag. Is it wrong when animated women are more attractive than real ones? But then again - I think it is a matter of poor cosplay. The girls cosplaying Sheryl and Ranka re cute in and of themselves BUT - here are the problems: 1. The girl cosplaying Ranka is TOO OLD. Or at least looks too aged. Her face does not have any of the aw-shucks innocence that characterized Ranka. 2. The clothes are BADLY TAILORED Actually - seriously - on this note - the real problem with cosplay is that often times it is ruined by badly tailored clothes. Like the lingerie/stockings on both of their legs are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to thick and also not structured properly (aka they seem to be "baggy" - stockings shouldn't make a girl's legs look BAGGY for goodness sake). But even abstracting from that - the dresses are also not well made. Couldn't they have gotten a decent fashion designer to make these? WHEN will we FINALLY get up-market porn movies which put CARE into the cosplay clothing? I mean - come on. If we have Yamato putting care into the design of 1/60 and 1/48 scaled transforming fighter plane replicas, if we have Bandai capable of all the amazing stuff they do with Gundam models, if we have companies that produce great anime girl sculpts... THEN HOW HARD COULD IT POSSIBLY BE FOR THE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR PORNO INDUSTRY TO HIRE A DECENT TAILOR?? Seriously! And a stylist while you're at it! My friend is a hair stylist - he's by no means some kind of totally famous stylist, but he has a dedicated clientel and even I can see that he knows what he's doing and can really make girls look great. Get rid of the whigs - first step - because whigs - especially cheap whigs - look like the girl has been washing her hair in cold water for three weaks without shampoo and conditioner (or with that terrible Head & Shoulders combo crap). It looks all brittle and dead. Sheryl's hair has BODY! Can't they hire a decent hair stylist to do the porn cosplay star's hair? Can't they spend some money on better clothes. For all the complaining people do about Yamato, it's just distressing to see all this "wow she is so hot!" stuff over these two Ranka and Sheryl cosplayers - yeah - the girls are good looking - but they FAIL as Ranka and Sheryl for the above mentioned reasons. Meanwhile - the Minmey animation is BEAUTIFUL. Pete
  4. This magazine risks making me go from a Misa lover to a Minmey lover ... sorry Misa - but I'm dumping you for a newer animation model! Pete
  5. Whatever picture you've attached is not displaying, so it's hard (for me at least) to know what you're talking about Pete
  6. Actually - now that I think about it - it's something even more simple. A HUGE amount of people who had crack, had it out of the box. I have also had crack out of the box. Literally - you just spread the legs and there's the crack. Don't need to transform anything. So - the deduction from this is that they were not careful when just simply checking that the product that was being packed into the box was not crack. ? Pete
  7. Yep. Same impression I got. Snake Eyes crouching with the sword looks like he's being played by the guy from the old 80s Dunkin' Donhuts commercials who got a weekend gig or was pulled out of retirement - or maybe it's that dude who played the cop in Die Hard and the father in that series with Erkle in it? .... The Barones walking into a PITCH BLACK cave with SUN GLASSES ON just looks retarded. Snake Eyes on that SUV looks either like an inflatable sex doll gone horribly wrong or like someone who just then realized that those eggs he had for breakfast were rotten. Sounds like they took an un-made Austin Powers movie seriously Yeah, but that had giant robots. Giant robots are cool. It is necessary for one reason: to make the original Marvel Comics a bloody masterpiece for its' wild and brilliant backstory on the Barroness, Destro and Snake Eyes. Meanwhile, the Movie sounds like One Life to Live mixed with Commando ... The only thing that can save this film is if there are numerous erotic scenes with the Baroness in it. And space aliens. Pete
  8. Interesting bit of news for Macross II fans - although I don't know if this news is good: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-...n-lands-at-no.2 Pete not
  9. Whether it's a "first production" or a "re-issue" has nothing to do with it if I'm not mistaken. Graham has already stated that Yamato have not made any changes in the method of construction of the shoulder part in ANY of the VF-1 1/60 version 2s. ALL they have done, according to our annointed blessed leader of Macrossworld The One, is "tell the factory workers to be more careful when inserting the pin." However - considering that the 1Js and 1As and a large (70-80%) portion of the 1Ss were all perfect, I think this "be careful inserting the pin" thing is also kind of moot. I have no clue what could possibly have caused some of the 1Ss shoulders to crack like that except for a design flaw - but it's not happening on 4 of my 5 fighters and the fifth was epoxied (hairline crack) and is fine. Feel like a broken record sometimes Pete
  10. Just to get straight on something - but wasn't the G1 Starscream mould also designed by Shoji Kawamori? I read this somewhere... Pete
  11. nobody is ever dead in the show Pete
  12. I know, I know - it should be obvious who is more lovable But still - it's fun to discuss, particularly with someone seeing it for the first time Pete
  13. Hey Black Valkyrie- I totally missed this one: Such a great pic You shouldn't hide them in little thumbnails - at least not gems like this Pete
  14. This is old news guys. It's just Bandai announcing their next Macross series after the Frontier movie is done: Macross: Dewey It follows the story of failed singer and snap-fit model builder Dewey, named by his otaku parents for the Macross: Dewey Colony ship that is their home. They wanted him to grow up to sing like Bassara, and while Dewey has a lot of heart, he has a terrible voice and suffers from obescity because he thinks that since Minmey took Hikaru to burger world in DYRL?, then CLEARLY if he hangs around Burger World all day, he'll meet a girl like Minmey who will fall in love with him. The series promises to be a bigger hit than frontier. The only thing we don't know is what - if any - kind of Valkyrie will appear in the series. duh. Pete
  15. Naturally, it's largely a matter of interpretation - and I admit that I might have an overly active imagination - but... here's how I explain the trip to the forest/woods sounding like a first date: 1) Misa has ZERO experience with men in a romantic setting EXCEPT for Riber - but she was what? 15 or 16 or maybe even 13 when she was in love with Riber. And that love ended tragically. She is a naive and uncorrupted woman. She is not as cosmopolitan and wordly as Minmey. Her whole life has been dedicated to duty and to her family tradition of a military life. Her father sometimes showed her affection because she reminded him of her mom - but in the main - he was stern with her and treated her like a lower rank officer. Notice also - how this relationship with her father impacts Misa's relationship with Hikaru (who is a lower ranking officer). Misa is accustomed to only one aspect of a romantic or personal relationship: just like her job got in the way of her relationship with her dad (because of the duality of father/daughter vs. high ranked officer/lower ranking officer) - so the same thing happens with her and Hikaru. Anyways - Misa is very provincial. She is not into the latest fashions. Her beauty is the natural beauty of a woman who is born beautiful - not the "manufactured" and "powdered" beauty of Minmey. Also, while Minmey PRETENDS to be innocent - Misa actually really is. So - I would say that even though she is in love with Hikaru and they have slept with one another - she remains with a very large dose of female shame. Female shame is a particular womanly emotion or character trait and even if you are sleeping with a girl - she could still act with shame in public - uneasy and uncertain and "like on a first date." Also - Misa is extremely jealous - because she doesn't understand how to "snag" a man - she wants to keep Hikaru for herself, but she's not confident enough or determined enough to bag him ... In any event - this is how I explain the dialogue. That and the time-frame it was made - when romantic scenes were made with more subtlety than nowadays. Well - again - it all depends on how we define "being together" - besides, the bridge bunnies were never the most perceptive of girls Pete
  16. Is...that supposed to be a re-imaging of episode 1, when Hikaru and Roy are drinking CORA!! CORRA! (sorry, I love that part from later in the series), and Roy starts eyeing Minmey?? If so - I appreciate the sex bomb Minmey - but why would she dress like that for the opening ceremony of the Macross? Or was she going to be singing that day? Will they have her already be a singer?? I prefered her in her knee high dress actually... Or am I mixing up scenes And can we get a bigger picture AND a hug? Thanks! Pete
  17. That's the one. Pete
  18. I personally think they definitely were. It's not as obvious that Misa and Hikaru slept with eachother as it was in DYRL? - but I think that following Space War I they definitely are together and romantically involved. The problem - as I see it - is that more than likely they slept together because MISA wanted to. This is actually usually the case; despite the stereotype that guys oogle over and always want to sleep with girls, it's the girls who ultimately decide and go through with it and coax the guy, lead him along or sometimes even drag him into it. In the case of Misa - she probably not only dragged Hikaru into bed, but into a semi-coherent relationship. Hikaru, however, is a) independent minded (and it's hard to be serving under "Demon Commander" yet also sleeping with her - experiencing both sides of her - on the one hand she can't live without him and goes all soft, but on the other hand she bitches at him during missions and criticizes him at work all the time) and b) completely unsure of whether or not he wants to "tie the knot" with Misa. I expect that part of the problem is that many viewers might be inclined to consider that since they're not married, talking about marriage, engaged, planning a family etc etc then they are not romanticallly involved. I see it differently: they both have demanding and stressful jobs - they are both independent minded and in many ways "loners" and "solitary figures" who need one another... but also sometimes need space, time alone, and freedom. This tension builds - between their need for eachother and their jobs/demands of work and is augmented by the Zendradi rebellion and resumption of the war. Ironically - the imminent death that stares them in the face due to the war was what brought them closer together - their most intimate personal moments were always at times of highest danger. So when the war revives, their love is tested and pressed and strained - but it is also re-strengthened again - because Hikaru might be pissed sometimes at Misa and Misa might be bitchy - but when she or he could die - they are very passionate about not wanting this to happen. I think also that if you notice how Misa reacts when she over hears that Hikaru lets Minmey stay with him - she thinks he's going to sleep with her. But Hikaru doesn't - he sleeps on the couch. Why? Because he's romantically involved with Misa. However - I do wonder whether later, as Minmey stays a while and starts getting al "wifey" - whether or not Hikaru does end up also sleeping with her? Possibly. In any case - Hikaru is quite un-manly in many ways. I don't really understand what girls see in him. It must be the abrasive nature combined with that big lock of hair he has, like in his filipino doll version... but SDFM TV Hikaru is very very very bad at "deciding" about love - obviously - probably because, as Minmey's song puts it "he loves his airplane more than he loves me." Hikaru's obliviousness to women makes him attractive I guess? ... Although - I think he only had true feelings for Misa... But - tough question. Hard to say. Not as obvious as in the movie... Pete
  19. I can't remember what episode it's in - but one of the episodes towards the end of SDFM TV - "Dolls of the Devil" or "Puppets of the Devil" sheds some light on this issue - although - I can't remember if it was episode 30...or maybe 31? or 29? forgot... Anyways - there's also a thread dedicated to the question of the Supervision Army - just put it in the search function. So.... Who do you love more? Misa - or Minmey? Pete
  20. Well, I can't complain since my Girlfriend dresses like Sheryl - though she'd never show herself in public like that... But actually - on the subject of clothes... it really isn't THAT hard to get girls to dress up like Maross girls - if you consider what Minmey, Misa, Rank and Sheryl USUALLY wear when they're not working. At work, they always wear some very fancy far fetched stuff - military uniforms, BDSM lingerie, lolicon miniskirts, "Opera Gowns" or cheesy 80s performance dresses. However - when in casual wear - they are quite elegant and not at all dated (particilarly Misa). Remember how she dressed to go see that movie with Hikaru? Hig tight boots with jeans inside the boots, nice long coat with nice long scarf and matching handbag. That's still in fashion these days - my girlfriend basically wears the same thing. As for Minmey - on many occassions she's worn knee length conservative fitting skirts which were well cut and feminine with a matching shirt and sweater combo that was also feminine and elegent. Again - girls wear stuff like this these days too. Ranka and Sheryl are even easier to spot in terms of their daily fashion. Well - maybe not so much Raka who sometimes would wear her student uniform around town, but that semi-bagy dress she wore? With the scarf? And the wacky boots? That's doable these days. You need short green hair to match the colors - but it's doable. Sheryl was a bit more provocatively dressed and you need to have the right figure otherwise you'd end up looking like a hoochy moma or something - but again - not that far fetched. The real fashion nightmares in Macross have always been the MEN. Hikaru wore EITHER a military uniform OR a boring double breasted suite. PULEEEESSE! Was he trying to look "Dashing?" I'm sure the girls all went crazy for him...not. Roy was at least decent enough to pretty much always dress like a soldier - even in Macross Zero with his wife-beater shirt. Military fatigues and all - fine - it suited him well, he looked good in it and that's a OK. Max - and here I will praise him - at least had the decency to put on an INTERESTING suit and tie, unlike Hikaru. But again - in general - the guys had NO fashion sense. Well -except Basara who at least wore jeans - although - fittingly- they were tight and looked stupid with his green wife beater - I say fittingly because Bassara's looks always annoy the heck out of me. Except in the movies, where he dresses a bit better. But then again - in many ways, Macross 7 was a fashion nightmare! Pete
  21. Sweet Those Destroids look like their groovin' to 70s disco hits! And those little figures on the lower shelf look like their either gettin' down an' boogyin' to MC Hammer - or playing a game of Rugby Pete
  22. I can't remember the exact chronology - but Hikaru and Misa did have a falling out - probably not in ep. 28 exactly - but I remember Misa was wondering where Hikaru was and it turned out he'd seen Minmey... But the main falling out was over the photo album - Misa's doing the dishes, laundry, cleaning - and Hikaru's got pictures of a nother woman up all over the place and a photo album full of cute Minmey pictures. In what I consider to be one of the most beautiful scenes in the whole series, Misa approaches him and slips him photos and runs away before he can realize what they are - and they are of course cute lovely photos of MISA. Great great GREAT moment. I personally don't think the rest of the episodes were rushed or filler - they are part of what makes SDFM such a cult classic - there is not easy rosey ending - and we see that love is a difficult thing - and how petty people can be once physical danger has passed and the illusion of peace prevails... But - anyways - lots of great moments in that last third of the series. Welcome to the forum! Pete
  23. I would rather re-name girls that I met/dated etc. "You be Misa, You be Minmey, you be Ranka..." than name children. Children are small and pee a lot. I don't want Minmey to be small and peeing a lot. Pete
  24. And when will this come out? Also - there's a Gurren Lagann movie? (not that it surprises me) - but is it worth it? The series was just lovely... Pete

Well, I think Yamato has made me OCD. Them and Bandai. Before Yamato's Valkyrie and Bandai's Gundam models, all I had was Transformers. Now, it's hard to look at even the "better" Transformers lines without thinking "that is so icky poo!" Heck - I'm even annoyed that my Masterpiece seekers don't have nice cockpits, but rather these hollow areas behind the pilot's chair - and not screen or controls. What's with that? Pete
