  1. Personally it was when the show got a big budget. Time and time again, I've seen well written, great shows go down the tubes simply because they get the budget to do the first idea that pops into their heads. It should be par for the course that it's the revisions to the first idea that make for greatness.
  2. Yes. See my review of it in the news thread posted 3 days after publication.
  3. 120,000 m? That's pretty damn high, son. Otherwise, I agree with everything other than the not hitting a low-Earth orbit. Even the compendium doesn't give it a maximum ceiling. Now, just to be clear - once up there at a low-Earth orbit, the VF-1 can't do much of anything. That's why it needs rocket boosters to reach satellite orbit later in the series.
  4. You mean satellite orbit, right? At the beginning of SDF:M the VF-1 is seen flying up to meet the SDF-1 at a low orbit (but what defines orbit? In this case it was after the blue of the sky fades and the stars are visible.)
  5. Erm... can we keep the tangental discussions to a minimum, or another thread? I thought this topic is only about translations, and not discussion of translations.
  6. 1978. And as you'll notice in the lineart of the stereo, it actually does say "CD". Psst: I'm referring to the other formats.
  7. 70 rounds, eh? I thought that was one of those made up numbers. Ok. Modded it.
  8. Perhaps I should add: only the names are correct. Everything else isn't. The lineart says: "video plate". The SDF:M version of post laser disc technology. And Mr.March is correct. How many of the formats were available, let alone invented in 1982?
  9. Reviving sleeping topic... All this talk about the new Palladium Macross sourcebook has inspired me to break out Memory Perfect, make some scans, do some translating, and write some code. http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/S...l/equipment.htm The titles are direct (or as near as possible, given that the original text is super, super, super small). Some of the names are funny. Sony, Victor and Sanyo = Suny, Vicor, and Yonyo? Timex = Timeyz??? Enjoy the early '80's technology outlook. http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/S...rsonal/guns.htm Nothing that hasn't been seen before. Some new scans 'tis all. Enjoy the pictures.
  10. I'm not surprised that they decided to add a bunch of infantry weapons. It's one of the things in Macross that the creators haven't really embelished. Though, as I'm still in the mind-set of the original version (aka pre-Rifts), I hope that they are not MDC weapons!
  11. Funny. I have the opposite reaction. The structure is similar to the bridge of the Battle Galaxy. The colour is also similar; and different from the rest of the ship, too.
  12. That's the ammo clip.
  13. Scans and quickie translation of the map info on Island 1 in "Macross Frontier 2059: Memories": http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/S...nd1/Island1.htm
  14. Yes. Newbie thread. No news. The disappearance was Shoji Kawamori's way of saying "and they rode off into the sunset". In other words, he feels that the story of Hikaru, Misa and Minmei has been told, and there's nothing more that can be added to it.
  15. Without further information, I'm considering the bottom three as a seperate design, possibly rejected.
  16. On the top? This looks to me like the bridge super structure of the Battle Galaxy. Any way to get better scans?
  17. Gakken Mook Macross Frontier Official File 2 is out. Quickie comments/scanlation/etc.: Some more info on the Vajra, specifically names for the ships: Vajra Carrier (Large), Vajra Carrier (Small). There's character lineart for the main characters - but it's uber small: 8 character sheets + descriptive text per page. Small!! The section on mecha is much larger than File 1. That said, the majority of the images are not new and there is little in the way of statistical data. Nothing new, in other words. There are images of the two Battle carriers, and I think 1 to 3 of the 4 images are new angles (I don't remember seeing them elsewhere, in other words.)
  18. Old news; Ranka is one of those Zentraedi with hair that can move. You know, like DYRL's Exodol.
  19. Actually... Kazutaka Miyatake did a lot of that. In "Shoji Kawamori Macross Design Works", if you look closely you'll see a lot of boxes with "Designed by 宮武一貴" in it. All the stuff inside of those boxes are Miyatake Kazutaka. (Ex pg 36-37, 44, 85, 92, 111, 138 and so on). IMHO, that book should be "Shoji Kawamori & Kazutaka Miyatake Macross Valkyrie Design Works".
  20. Junya Ishigaki, Takeshi Takakura (both mechanical design) and Hidetaka Tenjin (mechanical art) did the non-Valkyrie duties in Macross F (with Kazutaka Miyatake credited for conceptual design).
  21. As much as I would like to do it (and over half of the Chronicles in general), I know it's way beyond my present capabilities. As you also have the motivation to do it... it's actually quite surprising how much motivation plays a factor in language acquisition, translation, etc..
  22. Go for the Jamming Birds. quickie FYI: been under the weather this past week. Haven't been able to translate at half the usual pace. >.<
  23. Re: the additional elements I'm guessing that it'll be 3D CG mecha combat. For the simple reason that the majority of the character art is hand drawn and likely to take a lot longer to animate.
  24. Yes. Assuming VFs don't have a Gerwalk mode usually has those making the assumption proven wrong (VA-3 anyone?)
