  1. Interesting. In a kind of way. Followed by when the attached cover has "High Quality Content by Wikipedia Articles!" Which is followed by when I checked out the publisher's homepage: http://www.alphascript-publishing.com/inde...v&nav=10048 .... so, it begs the question: why should someone pay for something they can get for free? (Well, for the cost of an internet connection. Which appears to be what's needed to even by these publications )
  2. See post from 5 days ago in this very thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=833510
  3. Note name in center, below bee, and above happy meal.
  4. You mean the ones that appeared in the Hobby Hand Book? Scroll down to the head units section: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/S...#WEAPON_SYSTEMS
  5. This talk about anti-personnel machineguns placed in the head being a bad place to put them makes me think that the Cheyenne and Cheyenne II (Aka Destroid) are much better designs; what with an anti-personnel machinegun in the groin. Heck, the Octos also has a groin (or at least ground facing) gun.
  6. Erm... there are no articles in Japanese. So, shouldn't that be "factory satellite"? Therefore, the sentence translated should read "a factory satellite was captured", and not "the factory satellite was captured". a implying one of many. the implying there is only one. Random note: Macross Chronicle states that more than one Factory Satellite was captured by the UN Forces, and that there are Factory Satellites of different sizes.
  7. Actually, it is. Remember the surface of the Earth in Macross Plus? Is a planet like that (blast crators with zero vegetation) cabable of supporting life? Let alone human life in the billions? It makes sense to create Emigrant Fleets for the simple reason of alleviating the population explosion on Earth. Sure, mass cloning stopped, but there is still demographic momentum. Or exponential growth, a la the logistic function: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logistic_grow...pulation_growth So, with access to available resources and room to expand into (the Emigration Fleets), there is still a net upward increase in population. Max and Miria provide a good example: 7 children. If they are taken as representative, and if the majority of people at the time of the ending of mass cloning were in their prime birthing years, then the Macross F time period would be in the midst of a... hmmm, a baby boomer generation? And as we have yet to hear of the Soylent Green population solution being employed in the Macross universe...
  8. Incorrect. The enemy Zentraadi forces in Macross Digital Mission VF-X attack Earth with a large fleet at the end of the game. Debatable specifics aside, they do attack Earth with a mobile fortress class vessel.
  9. That, too. The first mission is entirely a sim. Mission: 01: boss (training mission) 11a: many Drones and Ghosts 12: only ghosts (boss is Toomu) Hmm... come to think of it, the Battle 13 battle is quite similar to MF's Battle Galaxy battle...
  10. See my post above re: engines. As for VF-1 vs the Ghost X-9: all fighter pilots say that success comes from pilot skill/experience, the aircraft involved, and luck. Therefore, the VF-1 beating the Ghost is as much, if not moreso, your ability (the pilot), and luck. I seem to remember that it took much, much, much longer for the VF-1 to defeat the Ghost than the VF-22 (2 to 5 minutes, or more, of dogfighting for the VF-1, vs. less than 15 seconds for the VF-22 (that's two or three volleys of micro-missiles during the initial approach)). Even then, it was only with volleys of micro-missiles from the FAST packs on the VF-1. Which are impossible, as those VF-1 FAST packs are SPACE use only. So, the whole situation is flawed to begin with.
  11. Don't forget that they (or at least the VF-27) is also the only fighter able to utilize surplus energy in fighter mode to use energy conversion armour to enhance the aeroframe's resistance to atmospheric friction. And to hammer the nail into the coffin lid on the VF-1 with VF-25 engines thing: the engines don't fit. VF-1: 12.68 m vs. VF-25: 15.59 m. The VF-25 is a good 23% larger than the VF-1. The engines also have an equivalent size increase. No room!
  12. The larger question would be - why wasn't it noticed earlier? Such as the survey ship that found the planet to be mined. The ship that brought the mining equipment and miners. Why would a tug pulling a refinery and ore be the one vessel that detects the signal? If I remember the scene correctly, the Space Jockey has been petrified. Which generally takes a lot of time (barring the atmosphere of LV-426 and the make-up of the Space Jockey itself. Maybe they're made of stone?)
  13. Alien vs Predator (first one) was actually pretty decent. Decent in that their is just enough of a story, and just enough of an interest in the developed characters to keep you watching until the very end. Of course, the bad thing about it is that once the movie is over, you feel pretty bad for getting suckered along with a story that, in the end, is quite simple. Anyhow, more on the 2001 vs 2010: on it's own, 2010 is pretty good (listen carefully and you can hear some of the themes from Gundam 0083. Or should that be 0083 took the themes? but never mind). As a sequel, it is terrible. Simply because it tries to explain most everything mysterious in 2001. And those things should have remained mysterious. The Matrix vs it's sequels: well, Reloaded held a lot of promise. As a trilogy, it's arguably the best of the three in the trilogy (though, the original is the best on it's own), as Reloaded sets up some mighty decent potential (something that 2010 never does - it just promises to deliver us something spectacular and doesn't live up to it's promise). Sadly, Revolutions loses the ball, and cops out with your standard Hollywood ending. If only the people behind the Matrix had continued with their matrix inside a matrix, and both humans and machines are pawns of something greater that was introduced in Reloaded... it would've been much better. Nevertheless, having an ending with two of the main heroes dying was still quite refreshing compared to the Hollywood standard of having everyone but the two main heroes dying. (but what about Alien3, you say. What Alien3, I say. )
  14. I agree with you. And one of the nice things about the Alien is that there is no agreement amongst the various creators. Though, if this movie comes to pass, an origin will be forced on us. Luckily, we'll be able to ignore it. Just like we can ignore Alien3. Unless, of course, if we want to enjoy Alien Resurrection. Then we're forced to accept the fates of Newt and Hicks. >.< Anyhow, the Matrix? Nah, "2010" is the ultimate in sequels that ruins the original (in this case, "2001: A Space Odyssey").
  15. I found a review of the "Alien" novel had the most interesting take on the Space Jockey and origin of the Alien. Unlike the "Alien" bomber (Scott) and "Alien" collector (Cameron), the novel has the Space Jockey simply landing (or crash landing) on a pyramid-like structure on LV-426, and getting infected by an Alien after exploring the chamber below. The pyramid itself was built by a race of aliens to protect their offspring as a great cataclysm happened, and all but the eggs were killed off. Sadly, I can't find the article on the net right now...
  16. Weren't you already told not to state personal opinion as fact? See http://macross.anime.net/wiki/2008 Specifically: The UN War (or UN Wars) ended in 2007. What roll the Anti-UN Alliance played in it is unclear. Is the Anti-UN Alliance a group of mercenaries? No. If it were, why is it called an Alliance and why would it have member nations?
  17. I had the most trouble with the Defence Satellite guarding the Bodoru Mobile Fortress then Bodoru himself...
  18. There's no data block, if that's what your asking for. There is some numbers in the text. Gloria: "flagship of the 12th Earth UN Forces fleet". There is line art of the anti-ship beam cannons, but there is no indication of the quantity. Standard Battleship: "2nd Battle Group's 17th and 18th Destroyer (?) Battle Group" and something about the "12th fleet". It also says there are 6 semi-recessed beam cannons in the central deck or hull (at least I think it says semi-recessed) and on the belly of the ship are 8 hemisphere shaped beam cannons, and something about the 4 slits on the rear engines being thought to be built-in missile launchers.
  19. #42 content review: Mechanic: SDFM Zent 03a: Nuujaderu Gaa (Nousjadel-Ger) - note the "magazine case" for the "laser machine-pistol". And here I thought it was just a funky hip armour detail. SDFM Zent 02a: Guraaji (Gluag) - single sheet. Bit disappointed. But not suprising given that all the Regulds were crammed onto a single fold-out page. M0 AUNA 01c: Sv-51 Ivanov and Nora special attack loadout (missiles, wing boosters: some additional lineart for the booster-wing connectors and the thrust-vector plates (a whole lot of awsome, shame it's too small) M+ UN 02c: YF-21 transformation (front & back; last 1/4 of rear has the emergency manual use lever) MII 06b: UN Ships: Gloria, standard Battleship, reverse: SDF-1 (lineart only for the bridge; guess the rest of it's covered in the DYRL section) with screen-captures of the firing sequence; and the small retreival vessel. Character: SDFM Zent 06a: Kamujin! Extra reports on Kamujin and Rapu Ramizu, as well as his lookalike in MF, Temujin. M7 Cit 02H: Mireena: taking us to the end of the series at last... M7 UN 08a: Moorii and Diiku; with extra report onm the Macross 7 fleet pilots, and Hayakawa Iriina. Timeline #50: up to Ranka's concert on Garia 4. History: SDFM 05a: Mars Sera Base, extra report on post-war Mars, with focus on Kizaki Gamurin. Worldguide sheet: 26a: Super Dimensional Resturant "Nyan-Nyan". I don't know what to make of this. I was expecting more than just emphasiz on the original (SDFM) and MF versions (though the floorplans and background lineart are a nice touch. Luv the detail in the MF version). Extra reports on the waitress uniforms and commercials... Tech: VF 01i: escape systems (broken down on the reverse as ejector seats, ejecting cockpits, removeable airframe noses, and EX Gear). Extra reports on the Reguld "ejection/leg ejection" system, and M+/M7 escape system uses. Glossary #20. The VF order is boggling my mind. Here's how they appear: VF-3000, VF-11 MAXL Kai Mireena Special Use, VF-11 Thunderbolt, VF-11D Kai Jamming Bird Special Use, VF-19 Excaliber, VF-19 Kai Excaliber Nekki Basara Special (aka Fire Valkyrie), VF-17, VF-17T Nightmare Kai, VF-14 Vampire (interesting that it mentions M3, but uses M7+ footage!). Reverse: VF-0, VF-XX, VF-2SS Valkyre II, VF-2JA Ikarosu, VF-9, VF-25, VF-27, VF-22S, VF-171, VF-4, VF-4G. Confused? Song sheet F: Aimo, Nyan nyan CM and Ninjiin Loves you yeah! Goods 01 Variable Toy: Bandai DX Chougoukin Macross Quarter. Looks shmexy. #43 preview: 7. Seven. Am I counting it right? 7 mechanic sheets. Images are DYRL Max's helmeted face, VF-2SS SAP formation flying over moon base, and of course, the beautifully painted VF-4 (but couldn't it have been a front upper or lowr 3/4 shot???)
  20. はっ~! Maybe I'm checking out the wrong stores in Denden Town. (That would be Sofmap - whose PS1 section got decimated in their Saurus 1 building when the PS3 was released. Mind you, the used DVD section also went to hell about two years ago...) The local Bookoff Stores (live on the Keihan line, near Hirakata-shi) significantly cut back their PS1 offerings around the same time period. It's still there - just that it's rare to find a Macross related PS1 game now-a-days).
  21. OK. Nevertheless, good luck finding a used copy. PS1 games pretty much disappeared from used stores when the PS3 was introduced (about 3 or 4 years ago). There are still small sections, but the selection is... limited. I've had luck finding the Macross games in the used section of Sofmap (though, that was a couple of years ago), and Bookoff is another place to check (for some reason, I keep running across the "Digital Mission VF-X" soundtrack at a number of the stores in my area!)
  22. Go with the the PS1 version. At the very least, it is compatible with the PS3 (not sure if there is region encoding). The other benefits are that there are 3 other Macross games for the PS1, whereas there are 0 other Macross games for the Saturn. So, if you (or anyone else heading to Japan) don't already have either a PS1 (or PS3) or a Saturn, go with the PS1. If you (or anyone else heading to Japan) already have both... I'm not sure which one is better. Saturn was released first, and the PS1 about a year later. During that year, there could have been some improvements added to the game, or it could have all been spent translating the base code for a new system.
  23. Ahh, ok. Try copy-and-pasting the following into your browser address bar: http://66.49.161.243/Index2.html The trick is to keep using the 66.49.161.243 in all the subsequent links. Though, this raises a new question: how long will the content remain on the host server? As once the data is overwritten...
  24. And there's your rebuttle. Hindsight is 20/20. They were making their synopsises and articles as the shows were airing; not years after the fact, when source material had been published in a plethora of books.* Also, addressing the alleged made up content: Case in point: Macross and the MATT book/VF-1 Master File. There's a bucketload of information available in it, that was made up by Japanese fans and contradicts later-published canon material. Therefore, who are we to say that their articles are innaccurate and made up, when they may very well be accurate translations of Japanese fan/anime magazine/whatever material on the shows available at the time? Lastly, I don't think anyone can be entirely accurate about something that someone else made. Macross Chronicle is a good example of that. It's a Japanese publication about a Japanese show, supervised by the very creator(s) of that show. Yet there are tracts of information missing. PS they must be doing something right when it comes to content, as they're still publishing 23 years after the launch. * Not to mention publishing on a deadline. Fans with all the time in the world can afford to take the time to make exacting translations and compilations. Your Macross II site is a good example. You'll have to remind me of it's web address, as I appear to have lost it... EDIT: forgot this point: if I remember correctly, they were also getting a lot of their information (ie translations) from 3rd party sources (ie a foreigner in Japan, or someone fluent in Japanese but not necessarily familiar with the show. It's fairly easy to see how that would cause slip ups like the Macross II Minmei Attack hologram being mistaken for Minmei herself.)
  25. See: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=830390 (this thread, 3 or 4 posts up) Also: tried google?
