Woah, been in Japan a little too long, eh? First off, it's gaikokujin (foreigner). Gaijin (outsider) has too many negative connotations, and is actually rude. Second: Save's point was taking pictures of the "Maids", not the general populace. As far as the law goes: http://tonymcnicol.com/2009/01/26/photogra...re-your-rights/ So, the question then becomes, what is your intended use of the picture? Concerning Japanese taking pictures of foreigners - the law works both ways. If you find a picture of yourself and it can be proven that your right to privacy has been infringed upon, you'll have a successful case. Nevertheless, please try not to judge everyone from the few bad apples. The same holds true for foreigners in Japan - you're actions reflect on the rest of us. So, if you're treated badly during your stay, it was because some else before you did something bad. If you want better treatment next time, and want to present your countrymen in the best possible way, it's best to think of yourself as an ambassador of your country during your stay. I think a new thread should be started. In fact, I'm thinking about starting one; but not geared toward the visitor. I've found it to be... hmmm, not quite exact. If you don't mind not having the fastest and/or most direct route, it'll suffice. If you want the fastest, most direct, etc., and can write Japanese, one of the better ones is: http://transit.map.yahoo.co.jp/

This isn't surprising, especially given that "Kazutaka Miyatake Design Works" was delayed something like a year. Or two. -

... and finished. These are the last two of the Q&A section, and the last translation of this book I'll be doing for the foreseeable future. There's too much content in Macross Chronicle and Great Mechanics.DX. Let alone some articles in Macross Ace... Anyhow, last content: I want to know the real faces of only the female characters! - cup sizes, history of the bridge bunnies, and medical advancements! I want to known the functions of Ranka's beloved lifelike mobile phone! - not quite as much as I was hoping. Ah well, something's better than nothing, right. -
The Movic animation materials book on the Macross F movie is out: http://www.movic.jp/index.php?ctrl=sheet&code=9953 I'm not sure when it was released, but I spotted it by chance at the local Animate. Details: ¥840 A4 size 48 pages Content: Mostly character designs and costumes some art on Ranka's vehicle, concert halls and stage props, and more than I'd like on Ranka's VF-25 suit!

Not answered in the sections I've translated. Some more: What is EX-Gear? - nothing truly new... What are the codenames "Fairy 9" and "Q1"? - again, if one was paying attention while watching the series... Isn't the medicine that Sheryl took, terrible? - hmmm. Interesting. Maybe not so much the medicine per se, but the manufacturer, and what it implies about the Galaxy fleet's armed forces. Hmmm -

A few more: What is the V-type infection [infectious disease]? - some interesting stuff. Hopefully other material clarifies some of the mystery. Maybe the second movie??? I want to known everyone's call sign - good for trivia. What is the Dimension Eater that smashed [broke up] Garia 4 [Gaul 4]? - first up: yup, Gaul is the translation of the name. Second: interesting stuff, with a capital V. Most interesting is the description of L.A.I (Luca Angelloni Institute?) I'm having a bit of trouble translating ルカの実家であるL.A.I技研, but have provided alternative possible translations in square brackets. The main one is the most literal translation, with the alternatives being potential common and literal meanings. Is it true that everyone is lovey-dovey while space-folding? - drug trips? Getting high? "Fold Love"! Teach me the rumours of the incidents surrounding implants - interesting. More back story of the Galaxy Fleet, Sheryl and Grace. Is it true that Sheryl got sick because of Grace's actions? - and more. With some rather unsettling questions asked about Grace. -
You too can join us, here. Though, if you don't come with skills (as in Japanese language ability and a background that can get you a job in something other than the English teaching profession), I don't recommend coming over right now. I'd wait until after the dust from the collapse of Geos settles.

Found the time to complete another handful of entries in the books Q&A: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...g37007#msg37007 Originally, who were the Zentradi? - there's a bit of a nuance that they can become any size inbetween giant and human sizes. Why do Kuran's ears that we saw change? - I found the revelations on micronization disease, and especially the Michael type as most interesting. Especially as it implies that most any human can use the micronization/macronization equipment! So... what is Fold Quartz? - some insight on Ranka. Wait... wasn't that the V-type Infection in her, and not an innate ability? Is Bururaa's objective Minmei? - interesting, as it says more on Bururaa, and answers the question with more questions What kind of fleet is the 117th Large-Scale Investigation Fleet? - nothing new if you were paying attention during the show. Why can Sheryl change her clothes instantly? - interesting. M+ Sharon Apple program actually did something beneficial! -
Oops.

Did you collect the series that was released a couple of years ago? If so, others (Renato, I think) said that it is essentially or exactly the same, except with much cooler binders. Therefore, you won't need to collect issues 01~30, and only need to collect 31~40, as it has the new movie(s) content; if I understand things correctly.

#14: good episode. It's made me realize one important thing about SGU: it's stories are consistent. As in, pacing, revelations, etc.. Which is good, as we know what to expect. Anyhow, I wonder if we'll see a large change in Dr. Rush. I hope that they'll decypher the code to the Destiny's controls, but on the other hand - not being in control of the ship is one of the gimmicks of the series. So, I don't think they'll be giving full control all at once. Nevertheless, how will the 4 stranded main characters get back to the ship? Alien ruins follow an episode implying aliens with uber star system construction abilities. My spidey sense is telling me that they might be involved (if only by dropping subtle hints, like the Ascended Ancients in SG1 and SGA), and they'll get back to the ship by use of the stargate. Lastly, I like the dimensions added to a couple of the main characters in this episode. Seeing Dr. Jackson was also good... but, I don't think I can call it a "Daniel Jackson" episode. More like he was used as either one aspect of Dr. Rush's subconcious or the Destiny's computer actually talking with Dr. Rush. Hmmm... off to contemplate some of the mysterious of that episode that were in plain site.

This one: http://deagostini.jp/eva/ Heads up for those collecting it: I picked up the 2nd and 3rd (or 01 and 02) binders at my local bookstore yesterday. If you haven't mail ordered the binders yet, it may be worth hitting up the bookstores for them. At ¥990 for both, they're not exactly cheap, but they're not that expensive, either (compared to Macross Chronicle's binder, which is ¥1,780 each!) For those not collecting the series: it's up to #13 already, (#14 next Tuesday). From what I understand, the (two?) movie content starts from #31.

True, true. The effects would have to penetrate through the 30 to 50 km thick crust to completely sterilize the Earth (if not further, if there are no extremophiles living in the upper mantle and deeper). As for global destruction that kills almost all life on (the surface of) the Earth, and how long it takes to recover, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extinction_ev...tinction_events With the Permian-Triassic extinction event and the Ordovician-Silurian extinction events being the most relevant (former for the sheer loss of life, and later for the distant similarity to the scenario under discussion - ie: something that effects the entire globe equally).

Most likely it's still largely a dead planet. Macross Frontier repeats the Macross City shots from Macross Plus, but shows little more of the planet of note. The Macross Chronicle article might have some information on the late 2050's state, but I haven't heard of anyone translating it.

Hmm, the impressions that I have is that the damage to the Destiny was caused by the Blues (possibly others) in their attempts to board and capture the ship. They also have the power to destroy the ship, but don't, as they have a (misbegotten) believe that it holds technology that they want. On the Destiny's part, it's had a bit more power for defenses (most likely shields, but probably also limited weapons) as it didn't have to power things like life-support, the lights, gravity, etc. for the human crew - which, if I understand it, is the main reason why they attacked the ship in eps 11 and 12: they believed that with the human presence, they'd be able to overcome the ship's defences. Again, those are the impressions I'm left with. I've also inferred that there is something inside the ship preventing the aliens from actually entering it. The main reasons are: they have the capability to latch onto the hull and cut holes into the interior. But on the occasion that we saw it, we didn't see a Blue enter the ship. The other reason was when they were trying to repair one of the guns, and there was a power malfunction that killed one of the crew sent to investigate the area. What if it wasn't a malfunction per se, but an accidental activation of an internal defence weapon? (Though, this could be reading between the lines, and the main thing stopping the Blues is the Destiny's barrier technology - specifically the hull breach barriers). Of course, going the religious-guy-is-really-alien-who's-been-on-the-ship-all-along, then maybe there was a "crew" defending the interior. Which leads into your subsequent reply: what if the Blues aren't the only game in town? The monument on the planet in eps 13 implies there's another race of aliens at work in the area. Hmmm... sadly, I don't think we'll get any answers to this plot thread until the season ending. Why, if you ask, because all of the previous Stargate series' had season enders, beginners and middles (eps. 9, 10, sometimes 11) on the "main enemy", and the rest, indirectly about the "main enemy" or something else all together. To be honest, it's a bit tiresome, and I truly hope that SGU breaks from that formula. EDIT: Bluemax beat me to some of the impressions.
-
They've already had ships dock with Destiny. There was one pod attached to the outside destroyed in Eps 12, and the one attached to the outside that cut a hole and took Chloe in eps 11. At the end of eps 11 Rush also explains (partially) why the aliens haven't been able to take over the ship.
-
I think that was one of the aliens that were in eps. 11 & 12, just detaching to go tell the rest that Ancients/Humans had arrived on the ship. I haven't gone back to rewatch it, but the shape of the pod-like ship was similar. Anyhow, right now, I'm a bit more interest in what the robot-probe like thing they found in one of the previously-unexplored storage rooms was in eps 13. Was it there from the start? Or something that arrived later and was deactivated and put in the cargo container by someone else who "left" the ship (maybe the faith scientist dude - who's been on the ship since before the arrival of the humans).
-
Hmmm... this raises some interesting questions. Not the least of which is: did the alien appear on Destiny at the same time as everyone else did, thereby creating the illusion that he's human? If so, are there other (alien) plot elements going on from (before) the time that the humans gated to the ship? Hmmm... deep thoughts.

Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition

Again, stop with the assumptions. Japanese DVDs are region 2. Japanese BluRays are region A/1. Totally different zones. Also, you could get a region free player. Anyhow, if you take something without paying for it, you're a thief; and definitely not a fan. Any attempts to justify stealing are just idiocy, unless if you're in certain political philosophies, and even then, it's only to justify things fundamental to living (ie food and shelter). Now you're understanding my point. As in: you make an anime import and translation company, and you settle the legal limbo once and for all. That, or you make the copyright laws of your area of residence less draconian. But it's not. See Gubaba's post above. -

Denial? Puh-lease. It is your responsibility, as you're enjoying entertainment made in Japan, by Japanese, for Japanese. Why not try getting over the instant-gratification sense-of-entitlement culture you're finding yourself in, and put some labour into getting Macross available in your area, in the language of your preference. Ie: start your own anime import and translation company. Honestly, people, using Harmony Gold is a lame excuse. Now, there are other options to buying that still provide the creators with a finiancial incentive. Renting is an option. Purchasing related products is another option (ie Macross Chronicle, Yamato toys, Hasegawa models, etc.). In the end, you can't call yourself a fan if you're not $upporting it in some way, $hape or form. -

How does pointing out an error that confuses your intended meaning prompt malicious defamation? What's most laughable is that a spell checker is only a click or two away. The next time you post, please check your ego at the door, thank you. You assume too much. First, Japanese domestic releases are priced to cover the cost of production. Production costs are different in other R2 countries - invariably, they are lower outside of Japan. Second, look closely to the left of this post. Do you see the from section? 日本 = Japan. -

What's a lagit copy? Don't you mean legit - as in legitimate? Poor spelling that nullifies the meaning aside, you like Macross? You like to watch more of it? Pay for it. More money paid to the people producing Macross = more Macross gets made. -
It's lexicographically ordered (akin to alphabetically ordered, for those that can't be bothered to Google it...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepburn_roman...on#For_hiragana The glossary is currently up to ま (ma). Given that there are only 4 more (planned) issues remaining, there's either not a lot of content in the remaining kana, or we're going to get more than one glossary sheet per issue.
