One of the VF-17 was also a full-scratch build. There may be more.

Eh? Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion... but, what about the other people who a) don't think he's controversial in the slightest, and b) neither love nor hate the character? For some of us, he just exists, like any other character in Macross, and we don't care one way or the other.

Transending the Protoculture
sketchley replied to I_Fly_For_Firebomber's topic in Movies and TV Series
? I don't think I indirectly or directly implied that controlling the Vajra equates to attaining genetic manipulation. Anyhow, the controlling fold quartz is basically the point that I've basically been trying to convey. So... in the end, I think we both think that we think we are agreeing with each other. Or something like that. -
Transending the Protoculture
sketchley replied to I_Fly_For_Firebomber's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm pretty sure controlling the Vajra was the character's main point. Nevertheless, it is true that overcoming fold dislocations and galaxy-wide instantaneous communication are huge advancements over Protoculture technology. That said, the only reason I think the answer should be focused on controlling the Vajra is because Protoculture and human technology is vastly different. Basically, despite humans having mastered variable fighter technology, ISC, so on and so forth, the Protoculture have achieved a level of genetic engineering that human technology hasn't even scratched the surface of. -

Transending the Protoculture
sketchley replied to I_Fly_For_Firebomber's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't have the source material on hand, and keeping in mind that subtitles, in general, are dodgy, as about half the meaning is lost in translation. Period. ... I believe she's referring to attaining control of the Vajra, and manipulating (using might be a better word) them for galactic dominance. This is something that is stated in MF that the Protocultures were never able to do. Why did she smile when she died? It was her chance to get away from it all (stealing a line from Star Trek II) . Seriously, if I understood things correctly and memory serves, the bad guys were using the Vajra for a universe-wide instantaneously communicating group mind. IMHO, her smiling indicates relieve that she (or they) will be separate from each other and there failed experiment with group-think has failed in such a way that it won't be attempted. -
New Star Trek series in the works?
sketchley replied to Zor Primus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Agreed. A shame that the bug aspect was dropped. But on the other hand, the Borg became that much more bad-a$$ because of it. Nevertheless, it's a first season episode. There are a few good nuggets of stuff in that season, but considering that the show basically reinvented itself with the 2nd season... -

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Space Wing
sketchley replied to Talos's topic in Movies and TV Series
Nah, MtR's VF-1X++ is. Added translations of Long Voyage/Project Trapeze and odds and ends (main ones that interest me are the sidebars on Grand Cannon II, Guantanamo class, F/A-20 Dragon II and so on. -
I think it has to do with Hakuna's bio - I think I remember translating somewhere that he's part cyborg and doesn't want to rely on any of the newer craft that use BDI type interfaces to bypass traditional flying skills (of course, I might be confusing him with another character ... as I can't find any indication of this in the translations that I've posted...) Anyhow, maybe it's just his image (said from an out-of-universe viewpoint)? VF-1/VF-0 are basically the same airframe after all.

Dengeki Hobby 2011.11 issue is out. This issue features, surprise surprise, a VF-11D and VF-0 Kai! VF-0 Kai "Zeak": Hakuna Aoba's new ride. Beyond being equipped with the VF-25's stage II thermonuclear reaction engines and energy conversion armour, it's also got the VF-25's wings! They even fold up the same! The head looks more reminiscent of the VF-25A crossed with the VF-25F's than the VF-0A's... VF-11D Thunder Focus: Rose Guryunesilt and "D" Aivori's ride. Me thinks it's part of the race monitoring communications/recording team, as it's got a GCU-M3 Kai camera pod in place of a gun pod. Macross the Forefront features: the VF-11B two-seater Macross the Ride edition VF-11D. Yamato toys: VF-19S AND VF-17S!!!!!!!!!!!!! SD Macross F characters. DX Chogokin VF-25F renewal version Macross F Sayonara Tsubasa movie & Last Frontier game pack Macross Crusade cards Sheryl's portable-mist (which, I swear, look like pregnancy tests. Wouldn't that be more fun?)

Great Mechanics.DX 18 YF-29 on da cover! ... and that's about the highlight for the Japanese impaired. There is a 6 page interview with Kawamori Shouji himself, with a smattering of pictures from the 2nd MF movie (the majority unseen in other MF 2 related publications), but as they're all small thumbnails, and as 4 of the 6 pages are B&W, it's not recommended. Of course, the magazine is always recommended if you're a fan of mecha, as it's always chock full of illustrations and pictures.

Theatrical, Director's, Extended, Unrated, and Special
sketchley replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Aside from Star Wars, the majority of the directors cuts have been either major improvements, or additions of interesting tidbits that further round out the movie, but ultimately prove to be unnecessary. Abyss - Director's Cut: IS the superior cut. It totally changes the narrative of the film, and improves it considerably. Alien - Director's Cut: an improvement on the original, as the way the crew treat each other adds a new dimension to the meaning of the title. The life-cycle of the xenomorph is also further rounded out. Aliens - Extended Edition: as interesting as the scenes of the LV-426 colony, sentry guns and so forth are, I do agree that the removal of the scenes improve not only the pacing, but the overall fear and mystery of the movie. Das Boot - Director's Cut: haven't seen the original theatrical cut, but man oh man, was blown away by this version. Lord of the The Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition: in short, totally different films. They retain a whole bunch of elements and characterizations from the novels, but ultimately are not single-sitting movies. Terminator 2 - Theatrical Version: 1 scene distinctly stands out that was cut in other version: after Sarah Conner breaks out of her room, she breaks a mop to create a weapon. Ultimately I agree with the choice to remove the scene. Terminator 2 - Criterion Edition: not only adds the above scene, but also a few sequences of the T1000 breaking down during the final battle, and the Conner's opening up Arnie's head in a scene that's just a wonder to watch (there's a "mirror", but actors on both sides of the "glass". I think these scenes added to the film, but kinda agree that they tend to slow down the film. Nothing else is coming to mind as I type this (I think I saw one or two other ones, maybe), not including the Star Wars films. Nevertheless, with all movies removal of filmed sequences are decisions not taken lightly. As a manga artist I understand this as well as anyone in the business: even though we love some sequences, ultimately if it messes with the pacing and doesn't add anything to the narrative, it's more likely to be cut. In the above mentioned films, I think "the Abyss" is the only film that shouldn't have been cut the way it was for the theatrical edition. -
Newtype 2009.09 (YF-24 Evolution, YF-25 Prophecy) http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2797.0 Thanks to the "Official Complete Book: Macross F Theatrical Edition: the Wings of Goodbye", I was able to locate the specific Newtype issue that the YF-25 Prophecy article appeared in. Fast forward a few months of searching through local Bookoffs... et voila! Some of the stuff penned by Kawamori is best guess. As my wife has said, he doesn't have the easiest-to-read handwriting. What I found most interesting is the appearance of Isamu Dyson. Still at Eden! Albeit retired. Great that the 2 Macross F movies (or at least their backstory) flesh out other parts of the Macross universe, too.

Possibly for the Tornado pack. The armoured pack is a totally different specification. This makes sense, especially considering how ISC uses, if I'm not mistaken, the super dimension as a place to temporarily store inertia.

It was AWESOME! So awesome that despite having seen the film twice in a regular theatre, I saw it THREE times in IMAX. (Wasn't planning to do that, never have done that, and will probably never do that again.) I think they edited it down to less than a 2 hour running time. Not sure of the official reason either, but my friends and I always guessed it had something to do with projector limitations. Anyhow, I didn't notice the cut scenes the first time, but did the next time. Didn't really feel like their removal hurt the film. IMAX version: Pros: you know all the background detail? Little people in the background on hangar platforms and stuff? THEY GOT MORE DETAILED! Cons: you know all the facial detail? IT GOT TOO FRIKKEN BIG. 6 ft zit about sums it up.

1/100 scale VF-25F Messiah Valkyrie Alto Custom Instruction Booklet and Box http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2796.0 I find the expansion to various roles most interesting. Does that mean that in addition to the fighter (F,S, presumably G, too), reconnaissance aircraft (RVF-25), and unmanned fighter squadron command craft (presumably the RVF-25 with some modifications), there's also an attacker (like the VA-3) and fighter bomber (like the VB-3000) models? Intersting.

Agreed. As cool as those scenes are (I especially agree with the decision to remove all scenes of the colonists prior to the Colonial Marines arrival), they do slow the film down as well as side track it. Kinda like the pod-racing in Eps I and superfluous "nos" in Eps VI. Darn it, all this talk about SW and ST is making me want to dust off my collection and watch it again (no, not going to buy it. Above and beyond a lot of the reasons members have posted in this thread, I've already bought the set in DVD format. 4 of the films on VHS, too! Do I REALLY need to shell out ¥12,500~17,500 for something I already have?) My personal favs for the SW saga are Eps IV (pacing, and sheer creative energy), Eps V (THIS), and Eps II (no, not the romance. The building up to and payoff at the end.) Eps III gets my dislike. For one big, fat ugly reason: the pacing is WRONG. Where Eps II, IV, V and VI get the build up to a climactic payoff just right, Eps III gives us a big payoff, and everything after that feels anti-climactic. Which happens AGAIN, after the final battles between Yoda/the Emperor and Vader/Obi-wan. Ugh. Anyhow, I'm going to take a review that a member pointed me to into consideration when I rewatch the series: production chronology, not in-universe chronology. I want my Vader as bad-a$$ as long as possible, thank you.

Personally I think it means that the system connects with the Vajra-produced fold wave energy that they use to communicate (and I think the implication is that it also provides power to the Vajra). I certainly wish that the Wyvern variant of the VF-25 was further developed (appeared in Macross Ace & VFMF:VF-25), as the description says something about a propeller driven craft is needed for Vajra reconnaissance as the Vajra can't detect a VF-25 with its engines deactivated. If that is true, then the YF-29 would stick out like a sore thumb to the Vajra, given that it also uses their fold wave energy!

Lucky. I hope it's the Criterion Edition, and you get to see them not only setting up the access tunnel guns, but see them fired.

What ever happened to MW Co-Founder Shawn?
sketchley replied to Shaorin's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showuser=10 Suffice to say, Shawn's still around, he's just not interested in talking with any of us.
