Not really. It's a buzz word. Although most are stealthy (especially compared to the alien ships), there are some that aren't stealthy at all. You're welcome to your own opinion. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. The main point is that neither (in the case of Macross), are the "Anti UN" and no such organization exists in Macross. Last of the Vajra/MF movie (#1) translations: Theatrical Macross Frontier The False Diva Roman Album I've also caught up on the backlog built up over the past half a year. Yay!

More like years. On the order of a decade. Intriguing. Though, impressions are that the Protoculture never took fold quartz from the Vajra, and as it doesn't exist in nature, the only way they could have it is to make it themselves. Was their fold quartz the same high purity? Apparently the Bird Man had that synthetic fold quartz... but if the Bird Man had it, why not the Protodevilun? Anyhow, my point (that got distracted with thoughts on retcons and the confusion it creates): Is mankind's willingness to steal high purity fold quartz from the dead bodies of Vajra what makes mankind advance beyond the Protodevilun? Is it because of that willingness that mankind got embroiled in a war with the Vajra? Now that the war is over, will mankind respect Vajra corpses, or will some desecrate the bodies, sparking a new conflict?

More Vajra/MF Wings of Goodbye: Newtype 2012.02 Appendix - Fact File: Macross F The Movie The False Diva (alas, it didn't have very much official info. On the other hand, the comments by the designer are interesting.) Official Complete Book Theatrical Macross F ~Wings of Goodbye~ A motherload of information, especially on the YF-29, VF-27 Super Parts, and the variant Macross Quarters. Alas, the stuff on the Vajra, though enlightening on how their portrayal in the film and TV series differs, ultimately doesn't have that much in detail.

Fixed. ... and to top things off, I'm not even sure if the creators of Macross have a firm idea of what fold quartz can do. Let alone it's precursors, fold carbon and fold coal.

Continuing the Vajra theme: Macross Chronicle Worldguide Sheets: 08A: Vajra 08B: Vajra Note: in translating, I opted for the term bio-armaments to differentiate from the common English definition of bio-weapons. I personally don't like bio-armaments (it feels clunky), but it's to emphasize that they are biological guns, missiles, etc. (armaments), and not chemical nor bacteria-based weapons.

Macross canon: what's real and what's fictional?
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Been there, done that: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34738 (admittedly, it hasn't been updated in a while, but... while FB7 expands on the underlying lack of synthesis, it doesn't really add to it.) -
Dengeki Hobby 2012.12 Macross Content: Bandai Hobby Project Department has started on the development project of a "Fully Transformable VF-1" Skimming the paragraphs: looks like it'll be a plastic model kit. As they reference the VF-25 kits, it's possible that it might be on the same scale of detail. Alas, despite indicating that it's for the 30th Anniversary... it looks like by the time it'll be released, it'll be the 31st anniversary... 1/72 Scale VF-1 Valkyrie (tentative) Price: pending Release date: pending [Content continues in the Macross the Forefront section - mostly as comments from various people involved. Kawamori Shouji, Hidetaka Tenjin, and others.] All-Japan Hobby Show Report: VF-4 Lightning III I've seen the pictures previously reported in MW. In case you've missed the details: Planned release for December. ï¿¥26,985 3 pg VF-11D Kai Jamming Birds article In short - the Hasegawa VF-11D Thunder Focus with scratch-built Sound Booster Super Parts. Macross the Forefront (1 pg) Hasegawa VF-11B Super Thunderbolt "Macross Plus" On sale: early November Price: ï¿¥3,570 Includes VF-11C Super Pack (square) nozzle bonus parts. The box art looks really nice. Courtesy Hidetaka san? Dengeki Hobby Data Collection "Macross 7" On sale: 10.31 Price: ï¿¥1,155 Hasegawa 1/72 VF-25 On sale: planned release summer, 2013 VF-4G Lightning III Larger picture in battroid form than the Hobby Show Report. Mentions it's available (only?) at the Yamato Online Shop. Planned release for December. ï¿¥26,985 DX Chougoukin YF-29 30th Anniversary colouring now on sale! (1 pg) On sale: now Price: ï¿¥17,850 In addition to pictures in all 3 modes and the box, there's also one of an open cockpit: the pilot suit is white, with grey arms and black and yellow highlights. Also, there's an announcement that they've decided to make Super Parts for the 30th anniversary YF-29. On sale: planned 2013.05 release. Price: ï¿¥4,725 Banpresto Macross 30th Anniversary SQ Figure ~Sheryl Nome Coscro [Costume Crossover]~ The Banpresto prize for November. Non-Macross Content: Next month's appendix will be a Yamato 2199 "Cosmo Falcon", moulded in the standard fighter's blue. Given the size of the previous appendix model kits, I'm not surprised that the accompanying text mentions "10 cm". Yamato 2199 Lengthy article on and about building the 1/1000 United Nations Cosmo Navy Combined Fleet. The set looks nice - all 3 ships, molded in colour (red, yellow and white) for ï¿¥3,150. 1 pg (colour) on the Gamirasu characters appearing in the 4th episode, along with 3 colour variants of the Gaiperon class space carrier. 3 pgs (B&W) on the 3 UN Cosmo Navy Combined Fleet kit's ships. I've seen about half of them in Great Mechanics, but it's nice to have them collected in one section, and some of them are larger than the earlier publication. 13 pg (!) on Gunhed (why couldn't the preceding month's special article on Macross be this long?!?] anyhow... 5 pgs on the movie version, 3 pgs on the comic version, 2 pg on what looks like the movie's production design lineart for the G1 and G2 modes. 1 pg interview with Masahiro Takashima. 3 pgs (2 colour, 1 B&W) on Starship Troopers: Invasion Specifically a synopsis of the movie, and a 1/72 full-injection static model of the ST powered suit from the movie. If I'm not mistaken, it's a recast/mod of the figure that comes with the BD box set. The last page is an interview along with design artwork for the powered suits by the man himself - Aramaki.

It's not like that hasn't happened before. Appeared in game/book/magazine and yet to appear in anime: Variable Guraaji/Neo-Guraaji YF-25 SW-XA1/SW-XAII Appeared in game, later appeared in anime: VB-6 (later appeared in MF) First appeared in a book/magazine, later appeared in an anime or game: VF-3000 (later appeared in the M3 game) VF-5000 (later appeared in M+GE, M3 and was going to appear in a failed anime) VF-9 (later appeared in the M3 game) VA-3 (later appeared in D7 and the VF-X2 game) And that's not including variants of what has appeared... some are quite radically different from the original. The VF-14 (from M3) and VF-19ACTIVE (from MtR) come to mind first. Re: new story/protagonist People are still talking about the unique story in VF-X2... 12 years on.

Nothing came of it. It's reminiscent of both the Schneegans and some of the designs of the VFs in MtR... but nothing really matches. Maybe it's the actual production VF-24?

Nope. Unless it's a refined one that's different from the art that's appeared so far: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/YF-24/YF-24fighterTOP.jpg Though, those stub-canards forward of the main wings remind me of a VF we've seen before...

Hmmm... it's a shame that they decided to not take the potential of FB7 and move Macross in a new direction... Nevertheless, last night, while watching Lincoln*, a Macross commercial was aired. At first I thought it was a CM for FB7, as the first two characters shown were Ranka and Sheryl. However, it continued with other characters from other Macross series. It wasn't until the very end that it became clear what it was about - one of the major cable TV providers is using the Animax Macross airings as a promotion to get new subscribers. Which begs the question - should that Animax Macross night be considered one of the major events? Even the main event? That commercial, especially when it aired, is now the most primetime, mass-marketed CM for Macross I've seen, to date. More-so than the CMs for the Macross pachinko game. And much more than when the two MF movies were released. * This TV show (Tues @ 10, on TBS): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_jcb6awmVw

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
sketchley replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To each their own... this film is definitely a Stanley Kubrick film. And the Steven Spielberg treatment of it makes it a unique film. Nevertheless, I found the ending quite thought provoking, and emotionally satisfying.- 854 replies

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
sketchley replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Nope. I remember it in the local (= Canadian) newspaper: "Canadian actress to play the first female Captain in Star Trek". See here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112178/trivia I've never seen that clip until now, and I can appreciate why she quit - she looked totally out of her element and like she didn't want to do it after realizing what was involved. I agree. -

Alrighty... I've figured out a temporary long-term solution to the online publication of the translations. The long term plan is to have it on its own, separate site. Toward that end, I've been busy this past week with web design. (still a work in progress, and parts of it might still need tweaking.) Anyhow, test run pages: the two MC glossary pages in the post immediately preceding this one (links edited) Macross 7 Trash Vol.1 Comic Version Setting Images Will be proceeding on the backlog shortly... and converting the existing translations, too. Along with proofreading and editing most of them (some of the translations weren't proofread before posting >.<, and others, especially older ones, have mistranslations that need correcting. Not looking forward to those...)

It might help to consider that atomic pile is the original name for nuclear reactors. Therefore, heat pile could most likely be an alternate translation of: thermonuclear reactor. Ergo: Thermonuclear Reactor System Cluster.

It's best to consider the VFMF series of books to be fan made - which explains away some of the odd choices and factual errors. Anyhow, an alternative to the geneological chart: http://nomansland.si...g35716#msg35716 (scroll down to: 082 The Genealogy of VFs and their development) In short, BOTH the VF-9 and VF-5000 branches merge into BOTH the VF-11 and VF-14.
