I was focusing primarily on Vic's 8/21 and 8/22 posts. Instead of re-hashing a "This movie is utter shite" post, he at least elaborated a bit on why he disliked the film. Attack the arguments, not the person. That's all. In any case, I'm glad to see District 9's got some legs to her. As I've said a number of times in other posts, we really need more films that entertain our brains and aren't just simple eye-candy; a film where we can walk out of the theater, and it gets us going into in-depth discussions, topics, and conversations. District 9 thankfully delivered on that front.

I actually loved that "Return of the King"-like aspect of the finale. As I was watching the second half of that last episode, I knew the ending was coming soon. But I wanted that "good-bye" to be stretched out as long as possible. It's sorta like that feeling where you know the party's gonna end soon, but you just want to hold on and hang out. . .just a little bit more.

Yup, Stiglitz could just flat-out kill you on a turn of a dime. But Mr. Blonde? Mr. Blonde will kill ya WITH FLAIR! And only in a Tarantino film can you learn two useless (but still quite interesting) bits of obscure film and international trivia. It may not be a Royale with Cheese, but I can say I learned two interesting bits of knowledge from Basterds.

Shouldn't we add Millia? (She was in the back of the Virgin Road Valk). Assuming the back-seat driver will be a RIO or an NFO, I'd rather have Misa back there. All the other folks on the poll could become a liability in a combat situation. But Misa's got the training, familiarity, and experience with the Valks and the squads to keep me alive and landing safely back on the Prometheus. As for Millia, I'd rather have her as a wingman, where she can do the most damage and ass-kicking. To make her a RIO would be like taking a master gourmet chef and asking them to just boil some potatoes.

So, why'd he make her dye her hair black (or wear a black wig) for Pulp Fiction? Also, just wanted to mention that the main baddie in Basterds was generally pretty f'ng good and engaging. Other than the drawn-out strudel scene, he's one of the more interesting characters in the film.

Regarding anime52k8's post: Although I don't agree with Vic's points, I gotta say he has stated his case and his reasons for disliking the film clearly and quite logically. One of the things I was personally worried about before watching District 9 was whether the story would live up to the buzz and hype we were generating. So, I personally went in hoping for something thought-provoking but nothing genre-breaking ala Dark Knight or the first Matrix movie. I could see if people's expectations were set really, really high why they'd be disappointed with the film. Personally, I liked the movie and consider it thought-provoking enough. But I can understand some of the criticisms being made. Again, Vic's done a bang-up job of stating his case. You and I may not agree with his position, but you gotta respect that he argues his point well.

Just got back from watching the film. And I can give it a mild recommendation (Don't go in expecting a "historically accurate" story though). If you're a fan of Tarantino's well-known style (dialogue-heavy scenes with the occasional flourish of gleefully over-the-top violence), you'll enjoy it enough. If you get annoyed with Tarantino's techniques or are just plain bored now by his style, you'll probably wanna skip the Basterds. I hate to say it, but I'm starting to see the seams in Quentin's style, especially with Basterds. On more than a few occasions I found myself saying, "Hey, isn't that musical cue from Kill Bill?" or "Isn't she from Kill Bill too?" Also, a few of the scenes seemed to scream, "I'm a cool little cinematic or pacing technique! LOOK AT ME!!" And at 2 1/2 hours long, the film definitely could use some editing. Understand, I'm a fan of Tarantino's stuff. But I think having a stronger editor (to reign Quentin in just a bit) would have made the film a lot tighter. When the film is focusin' on "killin' NAT-Sees!!" , you can just see the energy ooze on-screen. But the middle part of the film (with a certain cameo) just really killed the film's pace. All in all, don't go in expecting to see the greatest Tarantino film. It's okay, but it has its flaws. P.S.--Is it just me, or did you get the sense that Quentin wrote one of the two female roles for Uma Thurman?

Of course, they can also do the later release versions of Snake Eyes, Stalker, Rock n' Roll, Storm Shadow (second Joe version), and a mess of others. I'd just like Hasbro to show a little more "love" towards the old-school collectors. And the recent news coming out of the latest conventions isn't exactly promising on that front.

I actually like this idea! Considering it's Bryan Singer though, I'll give him a little benefit of the doubt. He did some great work with The Usual Suspects and X2. However, I really didn't like how over-faithfully he stuck to the original Superman movie mythology in Superman Returns. . . .Now that I'm thinking about it though, don't we already have a general outline of how this movie's plot will pan out? * The 12 colonies are at peace or are signing a peace treaty with the Cylons. * The Cylons sneak-attack and destroy almost all of the colonies and the Battlestars. * Galactica somehow survives all this. * Galactica picks up its rag-tag, fugitive fleet. * The fleet has a minor battle against the Cylons (maybe only one or two basestars). * Galactica is victorious and plots a path towards Earth. * BUT the Cylons are in hot pursuit!!!! (And we have GUARANTEED SEQUELS$$$$ if the movie opens up as the No. 1 film for the week! ) Did I miss anything?
