  1. FINALLY!! A summer movie flick that entertained my brain! Great action and a fairly solid plot. See Hollywood: you don't necessarily have to dumb down your action flicks. Thankfully, the film also isn't too heavy-handed with its social message either. Gotta say District 9 and Up have been the two real stand-outs this summer. Just wish they had given us a bit more info. (like how much time had passed) with District 9's epilogue.
  2. Was the default number of posts per topic page changed from 20 to 15 posts?
  3. . . . . Never thought I'd be envious of a clarinet. Was that Henry Rollins as Duke?! Flint's gonna get f*&ked! Season 1 of the Wonder Years DVD's? Did hell freeze over and someone forgot to tell me?
  4. Let me just say that, despite watching the cartoon as a kid, I was always a bigger fan of the comic book series. So if I come off as a "hater" , it's because I have a much stronger preference and love for the old comic books. For me, given all the interesting backstories and potential, I think they could have made this film so much more than just a mindlessly fun, summer action flick. Look, I don't mind eye-candy. But sometimes my brain wants to be entertained too! I mean, hell, the comic book Cobra Commander was able to get a bunch of dissatisfied, disillusioned Americans and whip them up into a home-grown, highly organized terrorist group! You mean to tell me they couldn't come up with an thought-provoking, yet action packed, movie and plot based on that premise? Or how about focusing on the insidious, enemy-within-our-midst aspect of the Crimson Guard? Or making Destro into a pragmatic arms dealer ("War is my business, and it profits me to sell to both sides of a conflict. The war lasts longer, and my company earns more.")? Or could Cobra Commander sway a few of the Joes to his side, asking them why they're risking their lives constantly for a meager wage? As a big, big fan of the comic book series, it's frustrating as hell to see a live-action movie utterly drop the ball on all these potential ideas, especially when Resolute showed how awesome GI Joe could be if it stays close to its roots. I just think the film could have been so much more. To go back to the Big Mac analogy: it's like taking a nice juicy slab of prime rib and just grinding it up to make the ground-beef patties of a Big Mac. The Big Mac might taste good, but the prime rib would have been so much more awesome and delicious.
  5. Regarding the Alphas, don't forget: * The arms that can't hold a gun and stay parallel to the ground. * The torso that plops down in battroid mode. * The landing gear that barely makes the Alpha's ground clearance less than 1mm. * And praying that all the parts get assembled just well enough that your Alpha will NOT have its nose slope upward in fighter mode. Just to name a few. ......Dang it eugi, where's my DOVES!!?
  6. From my strictly unbiased opinion, you should definitely buy the Beta. It is one solid, solid piece (and about $50 less than the ride armors). Granted, there are some unsightly gaps in the undercarriage and between the missile rack and the legs/boosters. They could have added a weapon and some shoulder-mounted missiles to pop up like the CMs version. And yes, the cockpit just folds down rather noticeably in battloid mode. But, the Beta has: * Solid-as-hell ratchet joints all over the place; * Die-cast metal in the right places (all in the legs, none in the arms); * None of the floppiness or ridculously small design tolerances that plagued the Alphas; * Awesome stickers with none of that ugly, murky haze; * Fairly good posing options (including the ability to do an A stance); and * A much better, flush looking fighter combo mode. I love the big blue bastard!! @Eugimon: If you're going M:I2, you need to add some flying doves in those pics!
  7. No Synchro-Cannon on the Shadow Beta? I thought they were gonna add that to this release.
  8. With all those connecting vehicle parts being major articulation joints, I'd just be scared as hell of this thing becoming a floppy mess. Plus, how good will the posing options be? Are they gonna compromise the look of the vehicles for the sake of articulation? Or will the articulation suffer for the sake of solid looking vehicles?
  9. No, no, no. We need them to focus on making KOTOR figures. With The Old Republic game coming out in the near future, it makes sense for Hasbro to revisit the characters from the old KOTOR games. Bastila, Sith Troopers, and improved re-releases of Revan, Malak, and HK-47. . .am I asking for too much?
  10. It's about time Hasbro gets the headsculpt for Farmboy Luke right (seeing as they've botched him up with each new release these past few years). We'll have to see though how the final product turns out before we can scratch another definitive Luke off the list. Now, all Hasbro has to do is deliver a definitive Hoth Luke, Bespin Luke, and DSII Luke. Yeesh, with all the Luke variants they've made over the years, you'd think Hasbro would have a few go-to headsculpts/molds for Mark Hamill by now. Do not mock the Ice Cream Maker Guy; many a hard-core SW geek will get mad at you! Plus, he may become your next pegwarmer for the upcoming year.
  11. Alright then, in order of preference . . . 1) 1/2000 TV-STYLE SDF-1 2) Regults with articulated Zent' inside (though I have a feeling they'll be 1/60 scale rather than 1/48 ) 3) VF-171 EX (Frontier style with M7's dark color scheme) At this point in my mecha collecting days, these would be the only things that would pique my interest and make me consider breaking out the proverbial wallet.
  12. And some leg art too! (Snowball's chance in hell. But it'd be cool if Yamato added it to the sticker sheet.)
  13. So, they finally revealed pics of the much ballyhooed DSII (Death Star II) Luke, and I have to say: Lord Moggy is not impressed. Image Link 1 Image Link 2 The facial expression just really looks off. While, the rest of the body just looks like a marginal improvement over the TAC Jedi Luke released a few years back. The Funeral Pyre Luke (from here) actually looks a lot more promising. However, I'm just not feeling the placement of the ball-jointed torso on either of them; it just breaks up the look of the torso too much for my tastes. I would have preferred something lower like the joint they have on most Cobra Commanders. Lastly, looks like I gotta wait until Summer 2010 for any KOTOR figures.
  14. I've always preferred "Limit Break Mode" myself. An all-out, desperation attack, usually performed when you're near death or badly damaged - I think it works. Nice work, Ignacio Ocamica. We just need a "taken from the front, slightly above the plane" shot.
  15. Are we talking just about stuff we know will be coming out in the upcoming months? Or are we also including stuff we'd go crazy-go-nuts for once it's officially announced?
  16. Damn, sucks about Beagle not finishing off the line. They had to have figured Rey would be the lowest seller. (And I do understand why they released it right after Stick's.) But at least put out Houquet and see how her sales go. If her sales aren't up to snuff, then they could have cancelled the line at that point. Like eriku, I too just never bought a Beagle. Not for lack of quality mind you; I just didn't have the space to display these. Hopefully, Toynami buys the Houquet CAD prototype from Beagle. It'd be a shame to see it go to waste. The other question now is who here on the MW boards is gonna change their avatar to the Fuke prototype and keep it until we see a 1/10 Fuke finally released? It's "worked" in the past! (I know... )

  18. Gotta go back to the classics: That bridge ("In the chill of night...") is what does it for me.
  19. Poor SMS'er is gonna be SOL. Nice to see someone bust out a custom of the VF-25.
  20. This is about the closest you can get it (From Wicked Ace's pic collection): Wicked Ace also did one of the YF-19 sorta mimicking the YF-21's high-speed mode.

    Flexi-Stand Poses

[Emperor Palpatine style]: Now witness the true power of the flexi with this fully-armed and fully-loaded 1/48 Valk! Another shot of a flexi holding a slightly-beyond vertical pose (this time with the -19). Also, thanks for the compliments and for even considering posting one of my pics, m0n5t3r. But I've always consider these poses to be my favorite go-to shot for showing off how awesome the flexi's can be: For me, I usually use a flexi with one rod of each length (i.e., one 2-inch prong, one 4-inch prong, and one 6-inch prong) for my poses.
  22. Mmmmmmmm, Thunder Hummer Yumminess!
  23. Nah, they'll probably still butcher it by pronouncing "St. John" as "Saint John" rather than "Sinjun." Speaking of which, who the frak names their sons Stringfellow and St. John?
