Spiral War needs Reviewers and Editors
Knight26 replied to Knight26's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
What did you write Ginrai, reviews? And, don't worry I don't plan on writing ever being my primary source of income. Be since if it made that kind of money, but I doubt it. -
Spiral War needs Reviewers and Editors
Knight26 replied to Knight26's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah I visit writers beware about once a month, as well as Piers Anthony's list of e-pubs and PoDs, both have said good things about createspace. Writers Bewares only comments about webook were to be careful about putting your work in the public version to avoid theft. As for WBs comments about PoDs and self publishing I have taken them to heart and that is why I am looking at create space, or other highly reputable e-pubs and PoDs that they and PA have recommended. In fact it was one of the e-pubs they recommended that gave me the feedback I needed to do this rewrite. Also, the contract I used is based off of one they linked to. I know what I am doing Roger, I might not be an industry insider or have as much experience as some, but I am doing the best I can in a diffulct industry at a difficult time. -
But, does the radar have the range of motion to pivot up 90 degrees? I have worked with old school aircraft radar like the type the VF-1's is based on and guess what they all droop like that when turned off and they all pivot side to side, prior to newer phased array radars they had to in order to scan the whole sky ahead of them.

Spiral War needs Reviewers and Editors

I have no intention of "quitting my day job" as you say, I enjoy it, and I enjoy writing, and if self-publishing marks me as "damaged goods" then so be it, so long as I can get my story out there. ANd I realize that making a living writing is hard to do, I don't plan to make a living at it, if I make some extra money at it, great, if not, oh well. And if you have some hot ticket to industry insiders then why not add something more helpful, not just berating what I am trying to do, which to an extent is to also give members here, who have been watching my progress on this for some time, get a leg up on reading a book, that many have looked forward to for some time. -
Spiral War needs Reviewers and Editors

Actually Roger, one of the individuals on here who volunteered is a professional editor and has volunteered in order to help out in exchange for acknowledgement in the book and a free copy. As for sending it to established editors/writers yes I could try that, and have, however most charge a pretty high rate that I cannot afford to pay at this time. I also realize that I am not offering a lot in compensation and that as a result I might not recieve the highest quality advice and comments, but I am willing to go with that, also the contract is negotiable to the individual, some on here just want to review, others to full on editting, it is up to the individual. Selfpublishing is of course not the route I would prefer, but breaking into the industry is extremely hard unless you know someone. That is why I am planning to initially go with self-publishing, I then have a few contacts I can go through in order to have the book looked at by some in the industry. It is a back door approach, but one I hope will work, by submitting the book directly to a few professional reviewers after it is publishers, reviewers who are very much into giving new authors, especially those using other then traditional methods, a more then fair shot. As for paying people off with toys, that was for the cover art, as there are many talented artists on here, and I know from talking with them, that they might consider that, that was why I even mentioned it. -
Its and old PVP comic reference from when the original SW MMORPG was launched, would really have to dig in order to find it
-
Well if it is the KOTOR era or maybe the NJO era it might be good, but it is an MMO so I will take a pass, no need to sucked into the Matrix 1.1 when I have a real life to worry about

Something else to consider in valkyrie design is sensors. Now I realize that in battroid mode the head contains the sensors, radar, EO/IR etc... but those units, especially the radar are probably no where near as powerful as the nose radar. Now look at your valks, only has its nose radar pointing forward in battroid mode, the YF/VF-19, all the others have it pointed down, or in the case of the SV-51 and the VF-25/27 back up into the fighter. To me this seems like a bad idea, now I realize that Battroids are primarily meant for close in combat so that radar is not as important, but still, doesn't it make sense not to just toss away your most power sensor when in battroid mode?

The short answer, different electronics suites and the ability to carry different weapons/stores depending on mission type

Those of you who have been around a while and who have seen my posts know that I have been writing a book for some time. I have just completed a major rewrite that was inspired by comments made by a publisher, he liked my style and the overall book but felt it dragged too much at the beginning. I also recently discovered a website called webook where prospective writers can post their work for review and editting. Thing is I don't like the idea of openning it up to the general public audience, so I am considering posting it in the private section where I can extend invites and or except invites for peer review. My plan is to get comments and edits on the book through webook and then selfpublish through createspace. As I do not have a large amount of funds just lying around I was planning to reimburse anyone who helps me with the book by listing them in the dedication section and sending them a free copy of the book. So, anyone who is interested please fill out the attached form and e-mail it to me at the e-mail address within. This is just a standard contract, more to cover my butt from anyone stealing the book then anything else, and it will also provide me with your addresses so I can send you the book when it publishes. Spiral War: Academy PS, I am also looking for a cover artist, my wife, a very talented artist, has volunteered to do the cover, but is too busy with the house, kids, animals, etc... to get much work done on it. So, I am considering trading the remains of my valkyrie collection for some coveart, PM me if interested. Contract

When and how did you first discover Macross?
Knight26 replied to ShizumaRobo's topic in Movies and TV Series
As with many of my generation Robotech was my first exposure to Macross. But then that's where things go interesting, around that same time we started going to a comic book shop in LaVerne that also carried a lot of anime merch, and showed anime movies in the back on weekends, no subs, no dubs, you walked in with a script and watched and translated by following along and reading the clock on the wall. My brother took me there to see DYRL for my b-day one year and after that I kind of forgot about it, hey I was young. Fast forward a few years and I am living in Tucson, AZ the video store nearby carries alot of imported anime and find CLash of the Bionoids, and within a year wear out their tape, at which point all I have is my brothers old comico comics. I then meet a guy in HS who was a total robotech head, we were lab partners in physics and got to talking about it, I would compare the comics to the novels, read them too, and the rpg, which he played and started to notice serious disconnects between the 3 series. Fast forward again to college and I find an anime store in tucson, and the internet and clash of the bionoids again and Macross Plus, I buy my own copy, as well as a copy of DYRL, the full DYRL on tape with subs, no idea where it came from, and of course wore them out. After that I took to the net and discovered so much more, 2012, Mac-7, the games, etc... though it would be years before I saw Mac-7 or 2012 my Macross passion had offiicaly been reignited. -
Get out of my freaking head man, I swear you guys read my thoughts sometimes and just ramp 'em up. While I don;t agree 100% thus far with everything said I do agree that Ranka was a PITA, I was far more in favor if Sheryl from the beginning despite her b!tch!ness, no loli for me. I also think that the Klan-Klan thing could have been handled better, with less comedy but the character really shines towards the end. I am actually rewatching hte series now, and after seeing the whole thing it comes off much better, even the bad episodes, showing that it was tightly written in many areas with very good cohession. Definitely one of the best Macross, it has upset my list and I can't figure which pedestal to put it on. Oh and as the guy who does Mecha Image of the Day put it, "Pretty Boys, why Macross Plus is Still #1"

Macross Frontier Series Discussion Thread *READ 1st Post*
Knight26 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I really like how the series went and ended. THe ending was somewhat open with the triangle never really being resolved, they left it up to the viewer, but it also left it open to a sequel, how you say? Well a sequel series or movie is definitely possible, the rest of Galaxy Anonymous is still out there, Grace's allies, and there are still some unanswered questions that a sequel would resolve. -
The Icon-A5 is not a roadable plane, it is an amphib, if you are looking for a roadable plane look at the terrafugia
-
They build that little amphib here in tehachapi, seen it up close already, looks like a beemer, lol
-
You don't need to spend time on it, just have someone in the background point and whisper, and boom, it makes more sense.
-
No but someone would start pointing and maybe whispering to their friend, "hey doesn't he look like that psycho dead actor..."
-
Yeah Zuey, or however you spell her name, would love it, I think the main character even mutated and raped his GF in it while turned into a monster. I want to say that it was called Bounty Dog, or something like that.

Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread III *Read 1st Post*
Knight26 replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Also remember that the Megaroad was not a Macross class vessel, it was a non-transforming colony ship with numerous escorts. The first few Megaroads probably took the majority of the Zentraedi fleet ships with them, so they probably built new Macross class vessels as escorts due to the familiarity of the design, and the fact that most colonies were probably established by humans who be more comfortable with human based ship designs. -
I remember this one of the movies that my dad rented from the anime shop in Tucson that made us mandate that the owner review all his rentals before he brought them home, and that was the editted US release. To this day, if my Dad shows up in there, which rare since I moved to CA, the owner still recognizes him and if he rents a movie lets him know whether or not it is too questionable. The other was some wierd sci-fi movie where they are trapped in a space prison and in one scene they violate a woman using a Colt 1911.

The computer and electronics super geek superthread...
Knight26 replied to EXO's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hey all, I am now thinking that early next year, the wife promised, I will get a new computer, finally, but I looked at my usage and decided I should get a laptop instead of a desktop, since I have so little time to work on the desktop with the kids. So, I thinking of getting a used laptop, and I am thinking it should have an NVidea-7950 card onboard, or possibly an 8800. I am leaning towards the 7950 because I plan to softmod the card into a Quadro card for modelling purposes, not gaming, and the 7950 softmods the best of any tested card according to what I have read. The problem I am having is finding a laptop with that video card. So do any of you know what laptops came with that card, and if not, how hard would it be for me to just build a laptop with that card, or even upgrade a laptop with that card? -
Yamato 1/60 VF-11b under development
Knight26 replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
There was a whole ugly period where Yamato cut Graham out of the loop because of things that happened here on MW. None of it was really his fault, but certain peoples, most of whom are now long gone, thankfully, got hold of sensitive info about Yamato, and their then upcoming toys, including prototype photos and posted them. Yamato got ticked as a result, hey industrial espianouge is a big deal, and stopped talking to Graham for a while, which may be one of the reasons we never got 2-seater 1:48s. I'm sure Graham can fill in all the ugly details, but I think it was right around the time that the YF-19 was announced that he was allowed back into Yamato's good graces and we are all now very careful about not posting possibly leaked pictures around here as a result.
