  1. Rolex...Relics... what's the difference? All your base are belong to us! Make your time!!
  2. Permatex Plastic Welder; despite the name, it will bond metal quite strongly and very well, and it comes in black: I use it all the time on various metals, and it holds very well.
  3. Wow...that just reeks about the paint covering your pre-shading! One possibility could be to take a rag dampened slightly with thinner (or 91% isopropyl alcohol) and gently wiping it across the surface to take a little of the coverage away. I've done that with a few models in the past, with more or less successful results. This one seems to be intent on giving you grief; I'm hoping you can make it shine!
  4. Thanks! Working on more improvements as we speak (gunpod fire, for example); hoping to refine this even more!
  5. Likewise; he's doing his level best to not let this defeat him.
  6. Hey, just wanted to check in with you... how's your model going?
  7. Yeah; I recall the surgery injured his throat and damaged his voice, from what I understand.
  8. Hmmm... I wonder if they mention anywhere in the movie whatever happened to Cougar?
  9. Hmmm...someone apparently slipped Amuro some funny stuff before flight duty today...
  10. Now, just play this with the pics (and that sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet gif you posted! ) And it's all good for Memorial Day weekend:
  11. I wonder what they plan to do about Madmartigan? I'd love to see Kilmer return for it, but I don't know what they would do about working his vocal injury into it?
  12. From the quote I posted: "It is the model Apogee's John Dykstra referred to as the "one-foot" model, used for the approach and passage of the Enterprise over V'Ger, to emphasize the size of V'Ger, itself an eighty-six feet long studio model". (note: Dykstra referred to it as the "one foot model", but it was 18 inches according to the rest of the crew.) So, they built an 86 foot long V'Ger section apparently.
  13. 18 inches is not all that big, especially for a professional filming model. Keep in mind that after a certain size, detail may not be picked up by a camera.
  14. They actually had a much smaller model for some of the scenes that they used: Link: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Constitution_class_model_(refit)#Smaller_scaled_refit-Constitution-class_physical_models
  15. UPDATE: trying for epic level on this one: The explosion on the right side was a little iffy, as it kinda looks like some weird moon rock formation at certain angles. But I wanted more than just a static flight pose; this mech was meant for lunar defense, and that's what I wanted to show here. Stay tuned... trying to get this one into the "I saw this cool model online" topic...
  16. Thanks!! For the moonscape, I went back over it by adding a think layer of glue and then sprinkling actual sand I got from a trip to a local inland beach recently! After that, it was just a dusting of primer and a few washes of orange, brown and blue; the moon's actual colors aren't simply grey! https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/space-science/what-colour-is-the-moon/ https://airandspace.si.edu/multimedia-gallery/11807hjpg The last thing I did after that was to: 1) seal the surface with Rustoleum matte clear, and 2) drybrush the surface lightly with FolkArt White Pearlescent paint. This added a sparkle to the grains and made the texture really pop!
  17. I'd love to see Hasegawa take on the Monster!
  18. Been some time since I really commented on other folks' stuff here (my apologies everyone!), so time for Da Pengbuzz to answer some mail: Thanks Thom! Admittedly, I'm still not done with this one, as I need to do some more things. But with this shadowbox, the diorama simply sits inside of it, and the box is removable (I learned that lesson a while back!) . I have 1 1/72 scale figure that I'm 'bashing into a spacesuited one, to add scale to the scene. I also wanted to print up a placard for the display, and I'm thinking about thrust effects for the armored valk as well. While my painting skills aren't exactly "crystal clean" like other folks', I'd like to try to knock this project out of the ball park and see if I can finish it off well enough to go viral online! I really think this concept is unique as far as the armored valk goes, so suggestions are welcome folks! I have actually taken in the past and rescribed panel lines into models (the 1/48 monogram F-14 was a royal pain!); I don't know if you would consider that. Also; considering how panel lines would be fairly faint anyways at that scale, would drawing them in with a mechanical pencil be a viable option for you? Really like the tint job on the canopies there, Urashiman! the 19 and the 21 are really starting to come together here! VERY nice work with the engine nozzles! And I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the control panels as well; I recall on my 1/48 "TOP GUN" F-14, I struggled with those AND the paint job overall, only to find someone did the correct references AFTER I just said "the heck with it" and declared it done! Going to be watching your project closely! Like I told wm cheng: you could always just pencil them in with a mechanical pencil at that scale. That said: I think the final result you'll get with this model once you're done will be far more valuable than that 2.99€ you spent on it! The nose work you did on it alone is outstanding, and I would swear up and down that it was how the model came originally! Yeah; there are reasons I don't post there anymore! I figure that while accuracy and fine detail are goals to strive for, if folks get so wrapped up in that to the point where the fun is gone, then it's just being a slave to unappreciative critics. I also nuked my account with HobbyTalk, as they changed owners and the new tone of the board is just plain awful! Y'know Nyankodevice...I'm gonna have to go back to my big SDF-1 and detail out all my turrets now!!! lol Seriously, those look absolutely incredible!!! Stay tuned folks; need to answer more mail after checking my other mail...
  19. If I had to guess, it's because he would push his luck only so far, then stop just short of actual trouble (except for those times where he crossed the line through idiocy or miscalculation). He seems the type to practice "brinksmanship".
  20. Good grief!! Not Ray Liotta!!! sigh...
