  1. frakking FINALLY! AND it's Best Girl, too! EDIT: That said, the sculpt isn't particularly accurate... There's far more of the regular VF Girl than I'd like, not enough of either Klang form. It actually reminds me of the "Half Age Girls" (still such a terrible name for the line, I don't understand what appeal they POSSIBLY saw in going with that) depiction of her. Ah well. The Megahouse figures are still looking good.
  2. What are the two design revisions? A quick wikia shows a novel design ...and a SD Gundam G Generation design? Either way, the kit doesn't look like either. Before seeing the artwork, my impression was the kit looked pretty cool, but compared to what it could have been... huh. It's definitely hewing closer to the SD design, but it's still so different. Is the SD artwork a chibi-fied version? Or is it supposed to be the non-deformed design? The kit doesn't look bad, but it's certainly more... generic? common? expected? The silhouette of the head and shoulders makes me think of the Jagd Doga, but the proportions overall and the legs brings to mind the... Zaku Kai? Maybe. I dunno. Bizarre design choices...
  3. Took the kids to see Weathering With You over the weekend (actually just a day after my first viewing), and... huh. I dunno what happened in between that first showing and the second, but I was way more into it the second time around. It still has all of the same "Shinkai-isms" as before, but I was far less irritated by them than I was the night before. Quite enjoyed myself this time around. The one musical cue that made me burst into stifled laughter still did so this time, too, though. Really such an odd place to put it...
  4. Makoto Shinkai works are so... frustrating sometimes. You can always count on them to be beautiful, but beyond that, it's like being on a rollercoaster ride. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows. His short works tend to be his better ones. His feature-length ones have, until Your Name/Kimi No Na Wa, tended to be weaker; 5 Centimeters Per Second was probably his best of the latter, but that one kind of doesn't count because it's three short stories spread across only 60 minutes. Weathering With You is so ambivalent. There are some really good things about it, but there are some really bad things. The CGI models used for some pans of Tokyo are remarkably and distractingly low quality. I was amazed that such a meticulous director like him gave the okay to those scenes. He seems to have fully embraced the pop music lifestyle that he began flirting with all the way back when with 5CM. It worked really well in Your Name. Here, it's much more distracting, much more amateurish. When the movie broke into song during the climactic finale, I found myself stifling giggles at how tone deaf it was. Character design needs serious work. Main male lead is just Anime Male Student, and main female lead is just Anime Female Student. He's especially bad, as he looks just like the main male lead from Your Name, who looks just like the main male lead from 5CM, etc. At one point in the movie they're at an old grandmother's house and her college student grandson enters the scene and I swear to god I could not tell the difference between the two males. Meanwhile you have someone like the detective character, who's sporting a big ol' swooping forward mane just like Josuke from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I forget the inspiration for it, but regardless, it's such a flamboyant design that stands at odds with the rest of the film's more generic characters. I dunno... It still feels like Shinkai hasn't grown as a director since his indie days. He still makes the same storytelling mistakes, and he's still an unrivaled visual composer. He still has such a schizophrenic body of work.
  5. These toys originally sold for...?
  6. Hey, just to confirm, the response PDF was BW's response to HG's appeal of an EU court's decision in favor of BW's challenge to HG's trademark application(? copyright application?) for "Macross" in the EU. Correct me on any of that, and also on any of the following: This is their response being given to I'm guessing an appeals court or office or... Anyway, that means no decision on the appeal has been made yet; it was simply a submission of BW's argument, which the court/office/etc. can use in determining their ruling.
  7. Saw 1917 again. Didn't plan on it, but friends wanted to see it and offered me a ticket so I wasn't gonna say no. Some things noticed on repeat viewing (spoilers just in case):
  8. I personally prefer Himari's so done with it all sass.
  9. Sigh... I'd love to get the G04, G05, and the Mudrock. Come the blip on, Bandai. They're all using brand new tooling. You've had more obscure kits see wider release. What the fudgesicle. At least with the former two, I may as well get the MGs for pretty much the same price... FAZZ looks alright, I guess.
  10. Eh. CGI looks fine. As a relatively new convert to the GitS, I'm down for more.
  11. Demi-chan is a rare breed of high school anime with practically zero fanservice at all. The closest you get is a "beach" episode, but even then the eye candy is decidedly more for the girls in the audience than the boys. It's a really wholesome show. I think the Crunchyroll has the OVA episode, too, which is also a lot of fun. I'm hoping they do a second season, but I'm good with what we have, too.
  12. Oh, from the discussion I was under the impression that Robotech Remix was a, well, remix of the Robotech animation... which is to say, the Macross animation. Like I thought there was a second airing in the 90s or something with re-edited scenes or something. If it's just the Titan Comics continuing run, then, well, okay then.
  13. ...what even is robotech remix
  14. Not sure if this has already been posted, but alongside the leaked Trevorrow script for IX, there also appears to be concept art: https://imgur.com/a/lX9JG8F I think a lot of us will immediately jump to crowing how this version would have been so much better and what we got was trash and blah blah blah, but it's important to remember that these are just a script and some concept art. They're bits and pieces of a hypothetical movie, one that could have run into any number of problems or rewrites or whatever along the way. Me, I like some of the ideas this works with. A more literally down to earth rebellion, being fought in the streets of Coruscant. Leia with BB-8... Rey wielding a double lightsaber is kind of ehhh, though. I've said before that it would be more interesting and more in line with her character if it was a single-bladed pole arm. Keeps more traits of her staff in there while also being unique to her rather than aping Darth Maul. The lightsaber execution block is also kinda dumb. But eh. Anyway. Check it out.
  15. Customs is kind of unpredictable. Sometimes I've had items spend a week or more there for no real reason, other times they go in and out the same day. It's just luck of the draw, often there's no nefarious or ulterior purpose behind it at all. The coronavirus outbreak MIGHT have something to do with it, but I doubt it; they would be screening people, I'd imagine, not packages... or rather, packages wouldn't be getting more scrutiny than they already do, at any rate.
  16. They won't be able to stop my legally distinct "Tiny Gremlin with Long Ears" plush. I just meant in general. If an X-Wing can go lightspeed, I don't really see why a TIE can't, too. Sure, it probably clashes with intricate lore details, but... eh. It's the type of minor thing I don't mind handwaving, like how lightsabers supposedly work. Crystals, psh. Sure. As far as the X-Wing being functional again... sigh. That also strained my suspension of disbelief. I had a similar feeling with the Falcon in VII; eventually I just shrugged and said, "Fine. Whatever. You do you, I guess. But I reserve the right to glare at you grumpily for the remainder of the movie."
  17. I remember thinking that the music cues combined with the single-shot tracking really made the movie feel like a video game. All it needed was a HUD and UI elements and it would've been the most life-like WWII shooter ever.
  18. Didn't you already do a V2 like a year ago or two? Or was that the Victory? IIRC you used the small-size EFSF hands then.
  19. I really liked that scene, too. My brother on the other hand hates it because he hates the entire movie. He's gone so far as to say that with the canon now being what it is, Palpatine is actually the "protagonist" of the franchise. After all, Palpatine killed off all the Jedi and all the Sith both directly and indirectly, bringing true balance to the Force. But yeah, besides being really well-acted, the scene was just good theater: a man's internal dilemma across 2.5 movies being played out externally and on screen. I think making him "turn good" was a super lazy way out and betrays the spirit of his character arc, but that doesn't take away from that scene being a much-needed catharsis for him and some just as muchly-needed slow, quiet time for the audience.
  20. Thanks for the correction. ~$1800 sounds... well, expensive, but not altogether TOO expensive, especially compared to the $2k-2.5k people were bandying about.
  21. For my part, I vastly prefer LibreOffice's UI to modern Word's. I'm sure if I acclimated to Word 20...13? 2007? Whenever they went from the old-school drop down menus to the new style UI... If I acclimated to that, I'd be able to work with it just fine, but LibreOffice shares more of Office 2003's familiar UI. I suppose that dates me a little, but eh, it is what it is. I've not had a reason to make the switch. But I don't use office programs very often, and when I do I don't need them to do particularly fancy things, so I'm probably not the best person to ask about this.
  22. Oh pah. You don't count; one could sing the praises of Star Wars up and down the hills and valleys, and as long as they did so in this thread, you'd find some way to take it as an insult to you and the honorable name of your family. Yeah, my fault; I didn't mean to imply that only those who disliked TRoS should see 1917. Obviously I think everyone should see it regardless of what they think of this movie. I meant to say I was simply comparing it to my previous theatrical outing, and TRoS happened to be in that unfortunate position. I imagine even if I had enjoyed TRoS, it would have compared unfavorably.
