  1. Best action scene in a train I’ve seen in years. Cool Samurai robot. Great after credits commercial. That is it. The rest is a snore fest. Save your money. The character progression of Logan is basically the same he had in the first X-men film. This time it is done in a Lost in Translation meets the Kenshin movies road trip along Japan that tries to sound deeper than it actually ends up being. I liked seeing Japan but the story was predictable, Mariko as love interest does not hold a candle to Jean Grey and the Wolverine action got old fast (mindlessly charge-get shot-kill.. rinse and repeat). Furthermore, he only fought yakuzas and two Samurais, Wolverine only exchanged blows with ninjas for maybe 10 seconds and then just got beat from a distance. It is not BAD, it’s just a forgettable movie that does not deliver as a character deconstruction nor as a superhero action film. Serpent mutant chick deserves a price for most boring villain of the year.
  2. I think that we can all agree that Pacific Rim is an honest film: it promised giant robots punching monsters in the face and it delivered epic giant robots punching monsters in the face as the big main dish. It’s not like the Transformers films were you get some robot action as a side dish because there has to be some in there while there are no humans running around with their oh so interesting lives. When you apply Sci-fi and anime tropes with love and respect even a movie with not a complex script can be heaps of fun.
  3. Nooooooope, I actually I went back to page 19. No specific comment about the scientist in all those pages, one or two about the acting yes. And like I said, my problem is that the dubbers here overact and an overacted character gets +100 from the voice actor. Since noboby goes to tear them appart when they stand out soooo much in the Spanish version, then they really must not be that bad in the original version. The crazy scientist are part of the trope Sci-Fi movie tropes this movie drinks from, evidently they will be cooky. The voice actors just took that beyond annoying.
  4. No Imax3D here but ended up seing it in 3D. Best 3D since Avatar; did not have the usual blury vision I get in other 3D movies. IMO the movie is the definition of FUN!! The group I went with and me could not stop clapping and shouting on the fight scenes. That moment made us stand up and clap lol. Fantastic experience. This movie is a cartoon made reality and that it what it goes for at first glance. Del Toro pulled an incredible amount of world building by just showing things. Probably most of it will fly over the average moviegoer. Del Toro is a director that takes great car in his visuals and going by that I see a lot of back story just there for people to pick up. The world he paints is never cast in that emo gritty crap that so many do now but with a few visual strokes he painted a much horrible and scarier place, full of poverty and hunger than any speech about how lost Gotham is. I don’t think the wall was THAT stupid, it’s just the result of humanity giving up. - Kaijus arrive, hell brakes loose but humanity reacts quickly. - Humanity creates their own monster to fight back. The Jaegers turn the tide; we see the images of how happy and confident the world is. International cooperation did it and humanity is saved. - Cue the better types of kaiju. The MK3 and up can’t go one on one like before. Looks like they have to gang up on them again with many jaegers but even then they loose more machines each fight. - Reality hits humanity: radioactive contamination from the nukes used for the first monsters have made parts of the continent inhabitable, marine life probably has also been partially poisoned by radioactivity and monster toxic blood. All the relocating and resources needed for the Jaeger program must have pushed the world to its limits and it was not enough. The jaegers are more ineffective with each monster so humanity refocuses their dwindling resources into a defensive wall to hide behind. I bet that it is full of movable cyclopean plasma cannons and the like. The super complex jaegers are just mobile platforms for those giant guns that can keep up with the fast kaijus, the wall is a cheaper way to do the same from a defensive standpoint: the monster gets close, weapons move close to it and they fire instead of having the expensive robots taking the fight to them. The wall is also a way to make useful all the refugees from the destroyed cities. There is hunger in Del Toros world, so much that the opportunity to risk your life high up building a wall is good news since you will get to eat. Some parts of Honk Kong look like a neon shanty town. The world in Pacific Rim is going to hell so much that only people are making religions around the monsters. And in that point were humanity has lost it’s self respect we find the last hope. The “resistance”; the idealistic nuts that don’t see that the only chance for the species is to hide. So forgotten they are that they need to sell dibs rights to the black market for the kaiju carcases. And here, after that bleak backdrop that Del Toro only hints visually and with a few words here and there we have the movie. An idealistic last stand that believes in punching problems in the face with a giant robot hand. frakk yea!! Just stuff to nitpick for the sake of it:
  5. LOL, got mine last month and the over packing makes you feel like you have something really special and unique when you take the things out but yeah, the no sprues thing does not help when there are soooooooo many tiny pieces. Haven't started building it yet and it's been sitting there for weeks. Apart from pieces needing glue (a downside in my book) how is the plastic holding up? Any broken pieces? I found the texture and flexibility of the plastic close the nylon based one used by Fansproject and Maketoys in their TF toys but here the parts are thinner. It just does not feel like model kit plastic; I get the impression that Elyn’s plastic is more durable and flexible. But like I said, this is only based on handling some of the parts back from when I first open it.
  6. Hell yeah! My favourite Masterpiece right now and one of the most beloved pieces in my robot collection. The bling on Grimlock just makes him the centre of attention
  7. Yeah, I know, I read Kickass when it came out back when Millar was still hot from his work on The Ultimates. I meant to say that it is "like" the comics of the 90's. Shock value and blood over substance. It was initially marketed as a realistic take on what being a superhero would be like but instead was just absurd levels of bloody violence fanservice attached to a standard plot. In the end it just dropped the realistic angle and just tried to go for shock value. Reminds me a bit of Preacher but Kick-ass sure as hell did not have the fantastic dialog and characters Preacher had; Kick-Ass really just had Hit-Girl. The first movie actually toned down the impossible gallons of blood the art had and the unnecessary weird random crap like Big Daddy just being a nut who kidnapped his own daughter to tell her a lie about her mother being dead and fulfilling his crazy dream of being a crime fighter. The sequel comic was just more violence for the sake of it. Millar even went and pulled the tired “Women in Refrigerators” bit with the heroes girlfriend getting raped to show how gritty evil the bad guys were… (the movie will not have this I hear).
  8. Saw the Zod Play Arts with the fish bowl in person the oter day. Quite imposing actually; huge size and the armor detail was superb. The Super man was boring in comparison.
  9. Don't see what people believe funny or not funny has to do with him not supporting the movie. The guy isn't a robot and can have his own free will and ideals. He signed for the movie THEN stuff happened that made him question the movie he was in but finished the job he was signed to do. Having to do now the Hollywood dick licking about a project he does not feel comfortable with should be perfectly ok. Says more about the man. And really, the comic is really just one of those 90's hollow blood wanks that almost sunk the comicbook industry dressed as being a "what would happen if people actually did this type of things", the movie follows the latter so no surprise if someone starts doing associations in their head after what happened. Does not mean people won't be able to see or enjoy the movie.
  10. It's finally out here but I can only go to the 3D version unless I want to wait more days to finally see it. Anybody wen to see it in 3d? Does it look too dark? Hate to miss details because of impatience.
  11. Really happy I got it now (the rather expensive shipping from CD Japan was not easy to swallow). Those comparison pics really show how the little improvements go a long way. The upgraded tampo also looks awesome. And even the Super parts add more to the design.
  12. Dear god, how many did TRU order?! They are ALL on Ebay. I swear Prime was not like this.
  13. Half of the listings on Ebay are for the TRU Masterpiece Soundwave. Anybody care to scalp me less than those on Ebay? Really interested in one.
  16. The exhaust nozzle extents out but yeah, TFC made more blocky crap here. And those fists hanging off the side are just pure lazy. For gods sake, if you are just making a box with wings, at least let it hide the hands!! There is enough space for that in a flying box!. But TF only fans that are into 3P will love it... as they basically love every overpriced crap they chuck at them as long as it is the only version of a character being made. It UT was the only one making Predaking, they would praise those tiny overpriced little bricks like the second coming of Christ.
  17. Ok, BBTS also has it and you don't have to drop the non refundable $50 deposit. I'll make it there until I find an overseas store that can declare a lower value on the box. Looking for something to nit pick, I don't see much leg articulation. I think those knee pistons are always in the same position.
  18. Is there any other place to get this other than Sideshow? I know it is an "exclusive" from them but I've seen China store sell exclusives other times. Just the shipping and customs fees could add me another $160+
  19. Ooouch!!! Talk about a bucket of ice cold water!! That is almost two HT Iron-man armors. Really want it but do I want it that much?
  20. Awesome news. Thanks! BTW, it looks like it will have some remobable armor and internar detail: http://www.blizzplanet.com/blog/comments/sideshow-starcraft-ii-jim-raynor-sixth-scale-figure-preview And from http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/10452532 : The hip gun holster looks so cool (scroll down): http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=138100&page=28
