  1. So for those that have the Dragonzord, is there a way to collapse the chest closer to his body in fighting mode and I just missed it? Cause the front it looks pretty great, but from the side there is a big ass gap that looks pretty awful. As far as I can tell, the answer is no, especially since I haven't seen such a step covered in any videos. Still, it's really unsightly and pretty amateur hour for an SOC, even if it is still the best representation we are likely to ever get.
  2. That front view of Unit 01 is enough to get me to give this a big fat pass. The head and neck look super doofy and remove any of the menace it should have. That said, I feel like plenty of releases don't get the head and neck quite right, not really sure why this one is so difficult.
  3. Glad I happened to pop in to this thread in time to snag one. This looks so slick and I really do think I prefer a smaller collection of larger figures. Now my old 1/48 Roy will have a companion piece.
  4. For what it's worth he's a pretty tremendous piece. I actually found him fun to transform and he has some really interesting/crazy engineering. I said on TFW that I'd recommend him despite the risk. Though mine isn't broken, so take that for what you will. If you like Beast Wars and are a fan of Dinobot, this is still the way to go. I doubt we'll see anything better, at least not anytime soon.
  5. It's a weird situation with Dinobot. Without looking at mine (still at work), I couldn't come up with a reason why Takara would chose that plastic on that particular part. The softer, more flexible plastics throughout the figure make sense though. There's a lot of twisting and accordion...ing that needs to happen on this guy. I imagine we'd have people shearing their arms off and whatnot if something more rigid was used. I flipped mine back and forth a couple of times before reading the meltdown on TFW, but my ratchets are okay. I was gentle with it, but mostly because I went into the transformation blind (it's surprisingly intuitive believe it or not). I don't want to dismiss people's issues as this obviously is one to some degree, but it also isn't universal. I feel like the more expensive the figure, the more likely you'll have these kinds of issues. I shouldn't have to future hips or shoulders or worry about backpack tabs breaking or hips disintegrating or breaking the "neck" of my 19. But, iirc, all those issues have hit Macross releases in the past. High end, complex pieces can break, you're paying more for finish and engineering I'd imagine than durability. A problem, sure, but at least it's not a catastrophic one. He still can transform and can basically pose without issue from what I've seen of the broken ones.
  6. I think if you sign up for an account with DHL, which doesn't cost anything, you can release packages that need a signature by going online. It's what I do since I'm never home when they deliver. You can also leave specific instructions (I've asked them to leave it in the shade on a hot day, for example) and I've always had a good experience with them. UPS and USPS or more likely to leave the slip without knocking and Amazon's delivery guys will just throw crap at my front door.
  7. Well I missed the boat on this one. Amiami's new site doesn't run too hot on mobile, even before the madness started. Wound up with 2 in my cart when I only wanted one. By the time I fixed it and got back through checkout they were gone. The other places sold out quicker than I could get through checkout. Surprised I'm not more bummed about it, maybe cause this is par for the course for Bandai stuff these days.
  8. Wasn't about to bother with the madness. But by chance I'm still awake...so what the hell. It's a really good looking Valk and it can hang out with my old Roy if I get lucky.
  9. I actually kind of like this scheme, perhaps more than any of the other anniversary ones. If all the anniversary markings are actually stickers and I can ignore them, it might be fun to have.
  10. This is a good looking piece. Somehow, I've managed to not have bought any version of a 1J in all my time collecting Macross stuff. This would be a good excuse to do so, but the Bandai pre-order insanity just isn't for me. I've tried that song and dance with the 31s and the process has been less than enjoyable. Might grab one if a non-crazy opportunity presents itself, otherwise it'll be living vicariously through pictures here.
  11. This is super reassuring, thanks. I couldn't really photograph this particular issue, but I did describe it well and shoot a short video showing the problem. I also included all kinds of other images to documents to help prove I bought it where and when I said I did. Did they respond to your initial email to them or did a new part just show up? Just trying to gauge if I should keep my eyes on my email to see if they respond.
  12. So does anyone have experience with bluefin's costumer service department? Got on of those slick SDCC black Megazord, but when I got home and was checking it out, one of the shoulders is missing ratchets. I'm gonna assume this is an error. I sent them an email with all the stuff they ask for and then some, but I've never had to deal with them directly for anything before. Just curious if anyone else has experience with them.
  13. Appreciate the replies all, gives me a bit more insight into the line. I don't expect them to last forever, heck I have SOCs with ratchets that have gone pretty floppy. I just have no experience with Gundam outside Gunpla and the occasional Robot Spirits or Fix. I've just had an itch to get a new robot lately and for as much as I like Gundam, I haven't gotten anything related to it in some time. These look really premium though so they definitely caught my eye.
  14. Well that's some consolation. I really like some of their Astray Red Frame releases and the Destiny, but they're expensive to begin with and aftermarket is no joke. So if I were to take the plunge, I'd want to be something that holds up reasonably well.
  15. So could someone give me the scoop on these metal build figures? They look cool and I've watched some reviews for various ones and while they seem nice, I have some concerns about jumping into the deep end. The biggest is that they have a decent amount of metal but no ratcheting joints. So I'm looking at all these crazy poses on Destiny Gundam for example, wondering what will happen over time. So do they turn into floppy messes at some point? How do they hold up over time?
  16. CD-Japan is pay upfront for preorders right?
  17. I have a fair amount of 19 toys, but I'm still rocking the original Yamato 1/60 for the YF-19. This is a really nice looking piece and might be a good replacement. That said, I have to imagine this is way more popular than anything from Delta and those were/are a pain in the ass to get. So I'd like to upgrade, but it's probably better for my sanity if I just don't even bother.
  18. Have yet to jump on the 31 wagon. Thought about it for several releases and even participated in some of the insanity around preorders. The CF one is the one I wish I had paid closer attention to. I like it way more than any of the hero options this go around.
  19. I've loved the designs from Macross for a long time. But as a collector without an unlimited budget it's sometime tough to justify buying too many Valks when they are so similar. These guys are pretty great since the colors are so striking. It really helps make them a worthy addition to the shelves over a regular white 1J. It's certainly easier to sell the purchase to the fiance if they look appreciably different
  20. I don't have any 1Js and this would be a mighty fine way to add a pair to my collection. I wonder how much of a treat these will be to get my hands on.
  21. I think I vastly prefer Mirage's unit over the other 31s. That said I already have the 31F pre-ordered and I don't really want to go through the insanity a second time. That said, I'm fairly certain the 31 is going to be a one and done for me so now I'm debating which one I really want.
  22. It's potential durability in the long term was part of the reason I let my preorder go and wound up not buying from HLJ either. I still like this design and I may bite on one of the Pope head versions despite my misgivings about longevity. I only hope some of the derping I couldn't shake with Keith's is gone with the other variants.
  23. Been waiting for Wotafa's review of this guy. Even though it's in Japanese he has a way of conveying what he means so even those of us who don't speak Japanese can figure it out. Also his transformations are usually super helpful and well shot.
  24. Man I go back and forth on this design a lot. I see some pictures and I love it and I see some others and I think it looks derpy as hell. The head area is what I flip flop on the most. I'm torn on whether I pay for my order or just let it go and accept the consequences.
  25. Lack of hip ratchets is a huge bummer for me. I don't have a 31 but I remember watching reviews and thinking that it was about damn time. Not having one in hand I can't say for sure, but it sure seems like it could have been done. Bandai puts ratchet joints in tiny Super Robot Chogokin which may not even have metal in the limbs that feature said ratchets. But on a complex, 200ish dollar Valk they can't carry that feature through the line. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but it has a big ass gun and big ass legs and ratchets at the hips and shoulders seem like a no brainier.
