Sadly, I will not be able to attend.

I definitely think Macross or Robotech is fine for a 5 year old to watch. Primarily because all of the adult content they're not really going to follow and they don't need to at that age. Robotech is perfect for a kid that age since they won't delve past a superficial level and see all the big story problems that were created when the series were mended together. I'm sure the kids will find there way to media with far worse depictions of violence. Hopefully the 5 year old would like it and want to watch it again when they were like 8 or 10 and there you go, a new addict for the club

My fiance refuses to watch Macross. It was made a couple years before she was born so I can imagine that it looks like a terrible old cartoon to her. MacZero was no problem, even MacPlus she can stomach a bit, but if I throw on the original she's out. I know how she feels too. I've watched original episodes of Voltron, Transformers, and Thundercats and I cringed. So I would support a reboot because I do think it'd bring a lot of new fans. I hope they wait another ten years though so I can get my kids into it (that's the timeframe I'm guessing would be necessary).

Sorry Darrin, I totally disagree with you on most these items. While I would LOVE to have a full high quality Gosu, I think the design really lends itself to something like the Vinyl treatment. There would be no opening missile bay or cockpit but it'd be like a $20 toy which is a lot easier for the toy industry to stomach.

WANT. I still haven't removed my Q-REA or VF-25F from their packages yet but I like the idea of this line.
-
Like the V2 toy... I wish the head were in the right place
-
It's a huge hunk of painted vinyl from what we can see with VERY minimal articulation (the battlepod).

Am I late to this party? How do I go about ordering replacement shoulders for my toys? I definitely need two VF-1S shoulders because both are broken on my first edition toy and both the replacements were broken in the bag they were sent in. Are we allowed to order for all of the toys we think might have the thick pin?

I just watched District 9 and was totally let down. That thing had plot holes you could drive a bus through. I spent the whole movie wondering about the alien perdicament. How did the aliens wind up at Earth? If the aliens were all worker class then why is it that the one time we see a smart alien boss one around the worker alien completely disregards his orders? If the aliens are that inept how did they ever get so advanced? Why would an alien fuel make a man into an alien? If the alien fuel was made out of alien chemicals, and we know all the alien chemicals were aboard the alien craft originally, why didn't the aliens just make more fuel before they were brought down to the surface? What was the major malfunction in the first place? If the mother ship could be moved remotely from the ground, why'd the smart alien ever plan on flying to it in the first place? Did he not notice the missile battery? How could anyone have smuggled an entire space craft into a district where all the aliens were being housed especially when there was video of the space craft ditching the mother ship? It was a fun flick and all but where Avatar loses points for being so utterly predictable I'd say D9 loses points for not even trying to fill in a lot of the elements essential to its plot.

I'm working on a huge review of this guy... hoping to have it up tonight. -
OOh, i forgot one in my previous post: Gaiares. Loved that shooter.

HA, I stopped playing 90% of games a long time ago so my choices are OLD school (with a couple exceptions). This is really just a list of games I've played too much more than a list of "best" 1) Civilization IV... the one modern game I still play occasionally 2) Phantasy Star II... Rolf, Nei, and a fist full of ZAN! 3) Streets of Rage III... I could never make out what the bad guys were saying 4) Zelda, the original 5) Super Mario III 6) Sonic the Hedgehog, the original 7) Gran Turismo, the original 9) EA's NHL Hockey (any Genesis version)... "wanna see me make Gretzky's head bleed?" 10) Shining in the Darkness 11) Battlefield 1942

I was really trying to get my Macross Quarter review done today but it's just not going to happen (had to pull my Takatoku SDF-1 out for some comparisons in size). So, instead I posted my drone Legioss review... only like nine months after everyone else did! Okay, not the most exciting, but check it out at anymoon.com

The Gakken there is just a sweet custom, not an upcoming product.

I think one was done a few pages back... and failing that I'll probably have one on my site... but probably not for like another month.

The Amazing Spider-Man, on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 9, 2012
jenius replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm delving OT here but for a Robotech live action film it would make sense to want it to be frank with the violence without using the related rating as an excuse to add sexuality that wasn't overt in the original story. It's a war story with love themes, not a sex story with war themes. -

Strike A Pose! V.4 - The Macross Mech Pose Thread

Due for lock... there's already a 1/60V2 "suggestions" thread.

Definitely, the poor mecha fights are definitely one of Mospeada's big weaknesses. I think it was done under the guise of a more realistic mecha than Macross strived for. Where the VF-1 apparently can do all the same things as a ballerina the Legioss seems to be pretty limited. The concept wasn't really explored though and it's one more aspect where Macross has a bit more "cool factor" than Mospeada.
-
I would agree that Macross has a lot over Mospeada... it's got more episode count and it's got the human culture aspect to it which helps to defeat an otherwise invincible foe. It also has the full scale division of the enemy fleet into a civil war of sorts. There's a lot of very compelling stuff there. Even the enemy baddies have a lot more personality than Batra, Sorji, and the Refless. C'mon, Quamzin > Batra any day. Mospeada does avoid the "clone" argument beyond the transforming mecha thing pretty easily in my mind. The Zentraedi were big humans, the Inbit are WAY more interesting conceptionally. The Refless is a representative of their consciousness, not a physical being, so they live by some sort of perfect democracy via a Hive Mind. The Inbit are evolving and there would have been many more types of their mecha if things had gone as planned. Mospeada is more of a Western with a posse of cowboys and their exploits. It seems kind of wrong to say "Macross is so much better because it feels so much more epic!" when it's being compared to a Western... the kind of shows that very frequently end with one man riding off into the sunset.
-
No, you were saying that the VF-1 is a sufficiently advanced enough where it wouldn't require something like mind control... as if it were so sufficiently advanced it were BEYOND mind control. I think that's an odd statement because it would seem to me that a direct mind link up to a machine would be pretty ideal and is only made more plausible by how advanced the VF-1 is. Yes, Macross has its own structure around why piloting a battroid is so easy and sure, it works. I was really just curious as to why the backlash for Robotech's version as I really don't find that whole "thinking cap" idea so terrible with the one HUGE exception being it doesn't work with the animation. I never hear people saying "ExoSquad was soooo terrible because the pilots had to connect to their Eframes!"
-
That's the argument against the thinking caps? Because these things are so advance they shouldn't need something as BASIC as an interface linked directly to a pilot's mind? I mean, I'll give you that these vehicles should be capable of being piloted in some form without thinking caps... but the running into a somersault followed by a spinning and firing in all directions... that'd be some ferocious jerking of levers and pedals.
