  1. Hmmm you had me thinking last night/thi morning about those points, so I made some clearer renders. I think that I do agree with you on some of those points, but since the concept art is so different in some areas(thickness of the bottom, upkick, and hem areas) I may have to go halfway between in order to keep building the model. Take a look at the new renders. Rodavan, Fixed uh... I think that I'll punt and make it fixed excepting that the 'knees' & feet do the pivoting. But it gives me a valid reason to pop the Macross discs back in the player. BTW, if it seems like I'm being attention whore-ish/anal about this, it's because I'd like to also build the cockpit and the pod's shape influences the rest of the build's scale. So I'd like to get it nearly 'perfect' before I move to other areas of the model.
  2. The car has always been cool. Could've been even worse like using the new Challenger(talk about commericalism LOL!) But to use the clique of "the 'hero/good guy' isn't gonna work because he's not the dark/bad boy that attracts female viewers" is out right lame for even a 'mindless' show. Oh and somebody clearly loves Googles Map feature idea don't they. LOL! But hey at least I gave 180 minutes to prove itself before calling it crap! ***** And appearantly I'm not the only one who thinks it's garbage after looking at it's ratings, bottom feeding, for those shows and seeing that it's barely more then average with the existing audience and that it's mainly fanboy Browncoats that are it's fan core.
  3. I, also, watched DRIVE with some attention. But sadly, for myself, I find it to be crap bound. The first 30 minutes were not to bad at all. However it headed south faster then a thristy hooker in summer, and Monday's episode put the nail in the coffin with their changing the 'main lead' character into a guy with a criminal past and his old 'super awsome' car. FAR too little sweet arsed driving. FAR too much lame 'super corporation' & cliched 'drama'. I kept on expecting something more(DeathRace anyone ) and all I got was Greatest Race vomit.
  4. It was a joke, just roll with it And it's Kawamori's alright. Miyatake specializes with sharp corners and did much of the background structures(he's very much an industrial concept designer if you study his work you can virtually spot every bit of his work in any anime) Kawamori did many of the softer designs and 'hero' vehicles.
  5. 13! Holy crud!!! I'm only on my 3rd pod build... How did you resolve the leg-junction-pod issue? Did you model it so that it's fixed or so it rotates?
  6. I decided to attempt a mecha this time around. I surprisingly didn't have to do a lot of reference digging for this project because the concept books and art books have nearly every aspect of it covered and available. I did have to scan some higher resolution images in, but that was easy. The tough part is that it's ALL perspective and getting the proportions nailed down is gonna be a freaking blast! And that's what I'm roughing out right now. *curses Kawamori* The pod only image is where I am at right now so if you see anything 'off' go ahead and tell me, I'll see what I can do to correct it.
  7. Not asking for much are you. Hope that you have a good chunk of change(120-500) because it's gonna cost unless you get a hobbyist to do the job. So good luck on finding someone.
  8. If you can find a copy of and older version of PowerDVD that has frame advance & capturing, no timed capturing though. Koolplaya has the ability to capture and it's freeware. IrfanView is an image viewing program but with some plug-ins can play, screen capture, and has timed capturing. Sadly most of these will require upgrading as well as you computer for the new formats that the subbers are going to.
  9. Thanks Graham. That makes it just about as canon as it gets. David Hingtgen, yes you do. Doesn't help that the AT-ST(RoTJ) was shown in the same year that SDF:Macross was (1983). If you throw in ED-209 then you get a really nice cross-section of 'chicken walker' mecha.
  10. The Zents are on the average of 18-22 meters tall so even something twice their size isn't really fundemental that 'big' to them. Realistically I'd class it the same as large letters/names painted on any aircraft/wet navy ship. "Easy to Read". Don't forget that the Original Protoculture also had a split in it's forces so having a specific style and naming scheme may have been some of their system of determining who's on who's side. So it could literally be anything, but I'd wager on the familiar because you can't make anime so bizarre that the audience can't easly visually grasp who is who. lol! Again this was part of the Protocultures attempt at keeping a policing force dependent on them for everything by way of limiting the amount that they knew how to do. It was a form of control. Because limiting knowledge is an EXCELLENT way to control your minions. Know the phrase "With Knowledge Comes Power." Besides with cloning tech losing 1-20 ships because of 'leaks' is pretty meaningless when you look at it coldly enough. Good luck with that 1/15,000 scale! *i get chills just thinking about it's small size.....*
  11. Interesting. So it's possibly from an artbook. Does it have others like several Valkyrie drawings(like this)?
  12. Hya! I'm doing some research on the Battle Pod/Regult for a 3D project and happened to find this nicely detailed image. However I've not found this image in any of my Macross artbooks. So what I need to know whether this is an 'official' image, RPG image, or just an Artbook image. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&id=41977
  13. Of course they do! They have to show the whole character evolution BS, so they will have more then a single suit. KingNor, they should have some concepts in the beginning of this thread still. But they've hinted at very busy slapdash designs being the 'main' hero suit.
  14. Since this is a mecha thread I figured I'd ask this here. The attached image... is this an 'official' design, just an illustrated design from an art book, or is it from a RPG system? I'd like to know because it has several details that I can use for my 3D Regult attempt.
  15. Back on topic. Haruhiko Mikimoto's designs started out as sloppy 70's style, but quickly developing into the then 'normal' 80's style. Which in my mind does not set him apart from others of the era (Orange Road anyone). The best thing about his work is that he did attempt to stay true to the theme of 'realistic' anime characters. Sadly the realistic anime style was thrown to the way-side when the Sharp & Big Eyed style became trendy. *damn you Masamune Shirow!* Mikimoto's in the top 5 of all time. But I've gonna say that Satoshi Urushihara just does it for me, and frankly he's the father of the high detailed 'pretty girl' eyes.
  16. Which is excellent! However if they attempt to pull a Halo suit for the newer suit it gets instant-fail.
  17. Well she's finished. She comes in at 3.8 million faces 800k over budget, but I'm happy with it. Sadly no possible renders can be done on my current hardware & software(it's either too large to render or has too many objects to import correctly). Believe I tried to get it rendered today but after spending 3 days fighting it I give up!
  18. Nothing stopping you from buying Imports, but please don't make others suffer because of your weeboo hatred. Remember that 50% of the buying audience and 99% of the anime networks will ONLY buy/show a dub. Manga company's may have gone non-flipped because 47% of the audience would still read it, but it's industrial suicide to go 'sub-only' and the anime market would shrink back down to late 80's-early 90's levels. Besides anime looks like crap on an HD screen because it's just not designed for it.
  19. Yeah Bandai is off their rocker if they think that people in R1 will buy at that price WITHOUT a dub. And it doesn't seem to be the only show that is planned to recieve this type of treatment. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-...l-about-pricing
  20. Yeah Gainax is in a rut doing little more then FLCL parody/comedies. And after the recent 2-4 years of anime that's been shown it's understandable why Anno has a beef with the current anime trends.
  21. Yeah the anime is made of 4chan QUALITY. But after watching ep1 again I'm warming to it's characters, especially the Yoko character who has some neat little body movements(not 'the bounce') and attitude(her VA's voice doesn't hurt either). That and you've got mecha making heroic Getter Robo style faces!!!
  22. Maybe if they only had stayed underground and never meet any of the mecha that they are using. Mecha/Monsters = Modok the intro = a certain pirate Kamina = 70's-80's delinquent This is a Getter FLCL parody. Thus I dub it GETTER COOLY!
  23. Yeah I remember Hard Time. I enjoyed it because of it's Hulkish-ness.
