I also don't feel Kawamori is "pulling a Lucas," in the aspect that Kawamori works better under tighter restrictions. I feel that Kawamori has simply lost his ability to produce a good series. As a side note, your statement becomes much more interesting if you look at it through Japan's eyes. Macross Plus, the series that Kawamori allegedly had more control over, was only given a lukewarm reception in Japan. Macross 7, the series that Kawamori allegedly only had an "outside influence" over, was very popular in Japan.

Maybe it's the lighting, but those look like something Toynami would produce. The YF-19 looks a little chubby and the three overall look like they're lacking even the most basic details such as panel lines.

The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
TheLoneWolf replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
When the news broke about the music edit I was aghast, the original music was absolutely exceptional. Despite already having the R2 box, I bought the R1 for comparisons sake and was quite surprised. As I stated in my review earlier in this thread, the audio in episode 1 is lower in quality than the R2, but I truly wouldn't have noticed unless I had already listened to the R2. And even then, it's not so bad as to make this first episode unbearable. Then came the music edit, maybe I was expecting the worst, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Yes, that one musical piece is gone but Bandai USA did replace it with a similiarly appropriate piece that fit the scene very nicely. Would I have preferred a clean version of episode 1? Absolutely! But the changes they made weren't as bad as everyone expected, I'd classify them as very minor annoyances rather than dealbreakers. In your case, you seem intent on going through a whole lot of trouble just to do away with minutia. I say just go ahead and buy the R1, you'll find out that all the work you're were willing to put yourself through isn't worth the effort. -
Interesting, I've never seen or heard about these two. My guess would be that Takatoku ran out of Paro 1J heads and decided to use extra 1S heads. Or, some factory worker(s) didn't know any better and painted Roy's 1S in Hikaru and Max color schemes. Either way, cool find!

Ah, would it work? Yes, I think it would. Though I'd also imagine that the new visuals would be jarring when cued up with the old score. There's no mistaking the background music for typical 70's & 80's music, while a few pieces are timeless there's also a good amount that's best forgotten. Minmays songs are ok though, she's supposed to be a bubble gum pop singer and that's what she sings.

What you and EXO describe would be a wet dream come true, but Kawamori would never give it the green light. If Macross Frontier bombs in Japan and Big West decides to move on without Kawamori, then a project like this might have a chance of being produced.
-
Basically, just redo the animation and leave everything else intact, I like it! But Kawamori would just have to add in nature, mysticism, and acid-tripping scenes to the series. Ok, nevermind, just leave the series as it is.

I don't know how limited it is, but my store got 4 in for Christmas and they sold out immediately. We haven't gotten anymore since.

Just curious, but whatever happened to Rik Newman? Before MW, his site used to be the best place for Macross news. When MW popped up, I expected him to migrate over along with you, instead he just disappeared from the Macross scene entirely.

There probably won't be a Saturn system emulator for the Wii because the Wii has a relatively weak processor. By comparison, the Saturn's processor is far weaker, but the Saturn is also an incredibly complex machine. In order to achieve near-perfect emulation Nintendo would have to spend a lot of time coding an extremely efficient emulator. And for what purpose, to please a small percentage (myself included) of fans? It doesn't look cost effective to me. Instead of releasing an actual Saturn emulator that plays actual CD's, I could see Nintendo emulating Saturn games an a per-download basis. It would still involve a *tremendous* amount of coding, but at least they could take shortcuts with hacks to get an individual game running, kind of like what Bleemcast did on the Dreamcast. Plus Nintendo could make more money by selling several games instead of selling a single emulator. The only problem would be storage. Even if the ISO is compressed down to 90mb, that's nearly 1/5 of the Wii's paltry 500mb of onboard storage. SD cards are one option, but you'd still have to transfer the game to the Wii's onboard memory every time you want to play.

He's referring to the VF-X2 Special Version (also known as the Tokyo Snack Version), not the bland US demo. And the VF-5000B is indeed playable in the Special Version. The game is insanely rare and I wouldn't be surprised if Graham is the only English-speaking person in the world to own a copy. I don't remember it being released by the usual ps1 warez groups of its day, so the only way to get an ISO of it would be through Graham, and I highly doubt he'd be willing to do that. Here's the article Graham wrote about it. Is that a chibi-Graham on the top? http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/news/_news_n034.htm

The Xbox 360 Thread Elite Edition
TheLoneWolf replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That's true, but I think it's still safe to say that Sony is selling the PS3 hardware at a loss whereas MS has finally begun to turn a modest profit off 360 hardware sales. Adding an HD-DVD drive, internal wi-fi and a larger hard drive would set them back if they want to sell it at a competitive price. -

It's just speculation. I doubt MS would ever release something like this because it would be more expensive than the PS3, and one of the primary reasons that the PS3 is struggling is due to its hefty pricetag. -

In no surprise to anyone, a Konami rep disclosed that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be coming to the 360, but it'll be released about a year after the PS3 version. After the incredibly insipid story that MGS2 featured, it won't be hard for me to wait until either version hits the $9.99 bin. http://xboxfamily.com/xf/index.php?option=...23&Itemid=2 -
That's the only official version of that toy made. There is a Taiwanese bootleg of that toy, the box is identical except that it's missing the Bandai logo in the lower-right corner. It's also missing the Big West sticker, but that should be obvious. As for price, IMO the price is in the mind of the buyer, not the seller. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $50 for this one.

lol, I specifically mentioned H3 because that one seems to have the most immature players online. Nothing beats hearing a 9 year old trying to trash talk But I do hear that R6: Vegas comes in a close second. -
Did Rob Liefield draw that comic?

Mine doesn't do this, but to be honest I never leave my system on unless I'm actively playing a game or downloading something. The Guilty Gear 2 download took about 25 minutes, but my screen only dimmed. Like you, I disabled auto shut down. Mine is a Premium that I got in September. "Delicious Bunny?" Oh boy, do you get a lot of snide remarks when you play H3 on Live? -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
TheLoneWolf replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The VT-1 and VE-1 will most definitely come out in this new toy line. Graham said that Yamato designed this line to support 2-seaters from the start. While it's true that Graham could've been referring to the VF-1D only, the bubble canopy seen in the pics he posted reminds me of the bubble canopy used by the VT-1 and VE-1. Besides, we all know by now that Yamato absolutely will not pass up the opportunity to milk another toy line. -
The PlayStation 3 Thread 80GB Edition
TheLoneWolf replied to Gaijin's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm not sure if this is the answer to your question, but the PS3 will work on both Standard Definition and High Definition TV's without any problems. The stock a/v cables that the PS3 comes packed with should work on any Standard Definition TV, I say "should" since I've never actually used mine, instead opting for HDMI. If your SD a/v cables are bad then get some new ones, if you want to save money then grab the a/v cables that the PS2 uses, it'll work on the PS3 too. -
I'm 99.9% certain Bandai's going to stick with the Macross models. Considering their last batch of 1/55 reissues was canned halfway through due to lackluster sales, I doubt they're going to try again anytime this decade.

If the store didn't do it, then maybe their distributor sealed them. Valkyrie-Exchange usually receives sealed Yamato cardboard cases full of 1/48's, while the cardboard shipping case is sealed the toys within aren't.

The PlayStation 3 Thread 80GB Edition
TheLoneWolf replied to Gaijin's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yes, that's how I believe that's how it works. So far I've only played PS1 games on my own wireless network, I'll have to try from another open wireless connection like Paneras. Like I said, I'm not 100% certain if you can now legally rip PS1 games to memory sticks. But if not, then I totally agree with you. If I could rip PS1 games to my PSP memory sticks then I'd be buying a ton more memory sticks so that I could have all my favorite games on the go, and more memory sticks sold is more money in Sony's bank. One reason I don't think Sony went this route is that they're afraid of people making hundreds of copies of SotN on memory sticks and reselling them. If that were the case Sony could encrypt each ISO so that it will only play on the PSP that's registered with it's corresponding PS3. Oh well, leave it to Sony to shoot themselves in the foot again. -
The PlayStation 3 Thread 80GB Edition
TheLoneWolf replied to Gaijin's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I just downloaded the PS3 update today and yes, you can play any PS1 disc on your PSP through the PS3. Basically the PS3 streams the game to your PSP, so far it works great with a little to no skipping, I'm impressed by how much data the PSP can process through its 802.11b connection. So far I haven't been able to figure out a way to save the whole disc to the psp's memory card. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but if isn't then you can only play PS1 games on the PSP as long as you're within range of a wireless connection and the PS3 is running. Not really helpful if you're on a plane and want to play PS1 games on the go.
