That's fine, and I wasn't singling out anyone specifically. Nor am I necessarily implying that there was anything inherently wrong with choosing a PS3. This is a board dedicated to an anime, and anime fans tend to be JRPG fans. If nothing else, the PS3 had more JRPGs. It's just an observation I had, given that I was a Gamestop manager at the beginning of that console generation, that PS3 vs Xbox 360 on this board skewed much more toward PS3 than the general population. Full disclosure, I bought a 360 at launch, and a PS3 after the first price drop on the 60GB model. I preferred the 360 for non-exclusives, but I use the PS3 far more than the 360, just more as a media center. After dabbling in PC games off and on, I built my first gaming PC in 2008 and began switching to PC for gaming. Today, I pretty much only buy console games if they're not available on PC, preferring even a sloppy PC port to playing on a console. My living room is just too open, with the TV some 17' from the couch, for me to feel as immersed as I do playing 2' from a 27" monitor (not to mention my current PC has long since left current console games in the dust graphically). Since Forza Horizon, my Xbox 360 has only been used to play Rock Band during get togethers with friends. I still use my PS3 daily for media, but I haven't played a game on in since the last God of War (although the Last of Us is sitting on my coffee table). You don't have to play the other Arkham games at all. Origins is a prequel, set something like two years after Bruce Wayne started doing the Batman thing and three years before Arkham Asylum. As a story, Origins has very little connection to what comes later, and frankly, is a much better and less cheesy story than Arkham City. I guess replayability comes down to how much you liked it. There's a lot to do in the game, counting all the various side missions and what not, even after you finish the main story, and there is a new game plus mode that lets you use different bat suits in the main game, but I'm not aware of any changes between playthroughs. I love the Arkham games; usually when I get near the end of a game I'm ready for it to be done, but I'd gladly have kept going in Origins. That said, though, the only Arkham game I've finished twice is Asylum.- 6894 replies

For the most part. Although MW as a group has leaned more in favor of Sony than Microsoft long before Microsoft's Xbone mishaps. This is definitely a forum that's more inclined to talk about how Microsoft f'ed up the Xbone than to say anything positive about it, and I'm pretty sure Mike is, while not necessarily anti-PS4, at least pro-Xbone. I can get why he probably doesn't want to read a bunch of comments critical of his choice. It's kind of like how I'm an Android user in a family of iPhone fans. I finished the main story in Arkham Origins. I still have some side stuff left to do, but I'm waiting for WB Games to patch it. Oh, and I'm still doing Pokemon. I just got my 4th badge, and a Gible, which I've already raised to a Gabite. Since he evolves into Garchomp, and Garchomp's pretty OP, it'll probably have a permanent slot on my team, but I've also been raising other dragons. I've got a Shellgon and a Fraxure on my team right now. I should be ok against Fairies, though, since I've got a Doublade. I've got a couple of other games I've got to get caught up on. I'm thinking about starting Tomb Raider or Hitman: Absolution. Oh, and I've got Lego Marvel, too. Better? This time, and only if you're counting PS3 to PS4. It's actually 8 between Xbox and Xbox One. It was 5 from the original PlayStation to PS2, and 6 from PS2 to PS3. From Xbox to Xbox 360 it was 4 years, 6 years between NES and SNES, 5 from SNES to N64, 5 from N64 to Gamecube, 5 from Gamecube to Wii, and 6 from Wii to Wii U.- 6894 replies

*raises hand* I do. Why buy an album on iTunes or whatever for $.99-$1.29 per track when I can buy the whole thing for $7.99-$9.99 at Target in a format that conveniently works in my car?- 6894 replies

Then play something that's not Diablo 3... Anyway, for those of you tossing around the idea of picking up an Nvidia Shield, I've got two bits of updated information that might be of interest. 1. The controller issue? After a bit of internet research and discussing the matter with a Nyko rep, the issue seems to come down to the controller's firmware. Nyko has updated firmware to fix the issue, but depending on the installed firmware, you may or may not be able to apply the update without sending the controller back to Nyko. 2. The free PSP emulator PPSSPP for Android, which works pretty great on the Shield, was updated. After the update, it CAN play Macross Triangle Frontier! There's a few minor bugs. Most are graphics (Gerwalks are a little bouncy, there's boxes around a Valkyrie's exhaust), but nothing game breaking. Saving will cause the game to freeze, but even that can be worked around by turning Auto Save off in the options, then using PPSSPP's Save State. EDIT: Gundam Assault Survive seems to work perfectly.- 6894 replies

Depends on whether you want a physical copy of the game. Since Nintendo hasn't been discounting the digital versions, i've prefered the physical, myself.- 6894 replies

Sweet! I didn't expect they'd get the license from the Volkswagen Group, and I was set to pass on this entirely because I didn't feel like paying Takara prices for a toy that's slightly larger than a Deluxe. If the Hasbro release comes in around $30-40, though, I'm sold.- 17159 replies

Don't get me wrong, Beast Wars was one of my favorite Transformers shows, and the first with decent writing. But robots that turn into animals don't interest me (excluding the odd subgroup). It's kind of like Animated... I loved the cartoon, but I didn't bother with the toys, because the aesthetic didn't work for me. And, Beast Wars was on when I was in high school. G1 was on when I was 5. The kid in me is definitely biased, and he wants a better G1 Megatron for his classics shelf than the mediocre Classics one.- 17159 replies

The PlayPad Pro I ordered from Amazon came today. Console mode works pretty much as advertised. I had no trouble browsing games on my computer downstairs from the TV upstairs, the game started just fine, and I was able to play. I tried Arkham Origins, which I've basically finished, and Arkham City, which I had to start over on. Both games are supported by Nvidia's GeForce Experience app, and both were set to use the GeForce Optimized settings. I won't say that you won't notice the lag, because I seemed to notice it. During a cutscene near the beginning of Arkham City, where Batman and Catwoman are talking, her lips and her voice were slightly out of sync. And, jumping off a rooftop, it seemed like Batman's response was a little off... like not exactly when you'd hit a button, but still fast enough to occur before you depressed it. Despite my perception, I completed the fight outside the courthouse without taking a hit, and the fight inside the courthouse. On Arkham Origins, I did a crime in progress. In both games, combat seemed to flow as smoothly as it would when I'd play it directly on my PC. I was countering without any issues, my combo meter was going up, and I effortlessly executed takedowns. Noticeable or not, any lag wasn't affecting gameplay. The biggest wrinkle is actually Nyko's PlayPad Pro controller. Despite the fact that the button placement and size are almost identical to an Xbox 360 controller (the face buttons are closer together, and may be a little smaller, but that's about it), it feels smaller. The handles are angled slightly more inward, and the controller is much lighter. Still, I'm not going to complain too much about a controller I bought for $20 feeling a little different and cheaper than a 360 pad. I am going to complain, though. See, in Arkham City, whenever I'd push a direction the left stick, the game would respond as if I were simultaneously pressing the corresponding direction the the d-pad. I thought maybe it was an Arkham City thing, since Console Mode posts on tech blogs didn't have this issue with Origins. However, I try it on Origins, and sure enough, the same thing is happening. A quick Google search tells me this issue is widespread, but supposedly Nyko made a firmware fix for the controller. I say supposedly, because I don't know of anyone who's been able to apply it. Nyko directs you to an Android app, designed specifically for the Shield with the latest update (which I have), although they claim it should work with any Android 4.3 device. Well, I can safely say that it doesn't. Myself, and everyone else, seems to report back that the app returns an error saying it can't connect to the controller, despite the controller showing in the bluetooth menu and input from the controller being detected by the Shield. Nyko has a different app for other devices with Android 4.2 and up, and it gives back the same error. As of yet, I've had no resolution for this issue. TL:DR; Console Mode works pretty good, but Nvidia needs to make their own controller.- 6894 replies

So a multiplayer-centric game, of which I have no interest in because I don't give rat's arse about multiplayer, is going to be exclusive to the console I wasn't planning on buying anyway, but if for some reason I changed my mind I could still get the PC version, which would be my platform of choice even if their was a PS4 version. I guess this sucks for those of you who didn't want an Xbone but did want Titanfall, but this news has absolutely no impact on me.- 6894 replies

Gladly. I have Amazon Prime, so probably sometime on Wednesday. I will say that I updated everything today, and I played a little of Arkham Origins on the Shield itself. Streaming seems much better than when I'd do a race or two in Grid 2, then lose the connection. There was a little audio stuttering, but the game play felt smooth. I did a crime in progress and I was able to to get up around x15 before one of the goons found a gun and shot me. The most frustrating thing about playing on the Shield wasn't streaming lag, it's the size of the screen. I don't know if I'm just getting older or what, but playing with the Shield in my lap was kind of difficult because everything just seemed too small. Laying on my stomach and holding the Shield closer to my eyes helped.- 6894 replies

Whatever your Wi-Fi range is. The Shield and the PC have to be on the same network, and you must have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 650+ GPU, a Core i3-2100 or Athlon 2 X4 630 or better CPU, and 4GB of RAM or more. Not sure if the latest update allows for mobile GPUs, but previously it was a desktop-only deal. They also recommend a dual-band router for best streaming performance, although Nvidia is working on a USB adapter that will let you wire it in. Shield supports 720p streaming wirelessly, but a future update will allow it to stream 1080p wired. Windows 7 and 8 are supported, and you have to run their GeForce Experience software on your computer. Honestly, I don't really mind it... it's got a nice feature that automatically picks the best graphics settings for supported games based on your hardware. Also, you can play more games than what Nvidia lists or what shows up in the GeForce experience. Basically, if you can run it in Steam's Big Picture mode, you can can play it on the Shield. Depending on where you're at in your PC setup, Shield's either a $300 accessory or a total waste of money. For me, it was the former, since my box as an i7, 16GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 660ti. If you have a Radeon card, though, you're looking at having to replace it, and if you use a laptop for gaming you are (or were) SOL.- 6894 replies

Hmm... the Kotaku review called it one of the best Metroidvania games in a long time, and I was pretty set to pick it up based on the review. Now I'm not so sure... Lego games are a mixed bag for me... I LOVED the Lego Star Wars games and Lego Batman 2, was less impressed with Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, the first Lego Batman, and Lego Indiana Jones, didn't play Lego Lord of the Rings, and seriously disliked the Lego Harry Potters. The Marvel fan in me couldn't say not to Lego Marvel Superheroes, though. I'll play it when I finish Arkham Origins. In other news, Nvidia updated the Shield. I have the HDMI cable to hook it up to a TV, now I just need a good controller for it. In a lot of ways, the Shield is turning out to be the ultimate PC gaming accessory for me. Most of the time, I can game in my office on my 27" speakers and Logitech surround sound system (especially as it gets colder... I tend to bunker down for the winter), but I'm not tied to it anymore, either. If I want to play on the TV, I can. If I want to use it as a portable and play on the can, I can (no pun intended). The only ways the Shield could be better for me are if they made the screen bigger (seriously, it's got a huge bezel) and if they gave it the ability to stream over the internet (which probably isn't feasible, what with input latency and all).- 6894 replies

Speaking of... on 10-31, you'll be able to buy a charging cradle for the 3DS XL (like the regular 3DS came with) for 500 coins. In other news, Arkham Origins, anyone? The guy they got for Batman's voice isn't Kevin Conroy, it's Roger Craig Smith (Captain America from Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble, Chris Redfield in recent Resident Evil games). He's a little more gravelly than Conroy, but overall he does a pretty good job. The game itself isn't as polished as the Rocksteady-developed Arkham games, including one bug that prevents you from completing a side-mission, and the game seems a little more skewed toward combat than predator. At times, the game can be a little stupid, too. There was one point where I thought I had a bug keeping me from progressing, because there were only two doors. One was locked, and the other was locked with a hacking panel. There was a jammer above it, though, so I knew I couldn't hack it yet. To progress, though, you actually have to try to hack it anyway, then the other door will unlock. Minor complaints aside, the story is a lot better than the "let's make a prison out of a huge chunk of the city by walling it off and letting the criminals do whatever they want" plot of Arkham City. And while it's not as polished as the previous games, a rough Arkham game is still better than a lot of the other crap out there. Personally, I'm really enjoying it, and gripes aside I'd recommend it if you're a fan of the series.- 6894 replies

Yes, it was a Club Nintendo promo. It was announced before SMTIV was released, and it was basically if you bought and registered both games by 8-31 (including if you'd registered Fire Emblem right when it first came out), you'd get an email with a $30 eShop code. If you buy Nintendo games/consoles, Club Nintendo's a pretty good deal, BTW. You get "coins" for registering products and taking short surveys on them. The coins can be traded in for gifts. The gifts aren't always the most impressive stuff in the world... I've got a handful of game download codes, a Super Mario Bros. pencil case, and a reversible pouch that I think was meant to be a cover for a DS or 3DS, but I use it for a dice bag. But shipping is free, so it's a nice little bonus for buying games you were going to anyway.- 6894 replies

Temptingish... I mean, I've only played the first one, and I've currently got Arkham Origins pre-loaded on Steam, on top of the Last of Us waiting for me to bother playing a console game, and I picked up Lego Marvel Superheroes this week, and I've got several games I picked up on Steam sales that I haven't had time to play yet including Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution, and DmC, plus I've got 25-ish hours on Pokemon Y (and I'm only at the 2nd gym). So I don't really need another game. On the other hand, I did like the first one. And I do still have the $30 eShop credit for buying SMTIV and Fire Emblem...- 6894 replies

Well... you may remember seeing something like this on box art, toy catalogs, or instructions back in the day: Thing is, Bluestreak wasn't actually made in that color (I think there was a Diaclone that was, but not a Transformer). The toy is silver/gray, black, and red, and he's silver/gray, black, and red in the cartoon. I think people sort of misremember him being blue, because of the name Bluestreak. This is somewhat true for me. Actually, though, I haven't used my Vita much. And so far, the only Wii U game I've played is New Super Mario Bros. U. However, unlike the regular Wii, who's novelty quickly wore off and just looked like butt on my HDTV, I expect the Wii U to pick up. Super Mario 3D World is one of my must-buys this holiday, and I'm still really looking forward to the new Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2.- 6894 replies

I don't do Facebook either, and like yourself, I usually follow links to Youtube rather than actually go to Youtube. I guess I was just a little surprised because they were kind of a big deal on Saturday Night Live (especially whenever Justin Timberlake was on). Or, maybe you'd know them better from the movie Hot Rod? That was one of their projects.

You mean you've never heard of The Lonely Island? I think they got their start as a couple of friends who just did random crap on the internet, but when they joined the SNL cast (Andy Samberg as an actor, the other two as writers), SNL Digital Shorts become an outlet for them. They wound up putting out three albums before they all left the show. If you liked that video and seriously have never head of them, feel free to Google the videos for "D*ck in a Box," "Motherlover," "3-Way (The Golden Rule)," "I'm on a Boat," "Like a Boss," "Jack Sparrow," and my personal favorite, "I Just Had Sex".
