  1. After 20 years, I didn't think anything would top a Link to the Past, but I think LbW actually does.
  2. Even though my love of Transformers stems from growing up with G1, I hesitated. Thing is, while I love G1, I don't really collect the toys or reissues of the toys because even the worst CHUGs are often better representations of the characters with better articulation that the bricks that G1 Transformers were. While $49.99 was a great price, I couldn't convince myself that I actually have a spot for a G1 reissue Predaking in my collection. I guess I missed my chance now anyway.
  3. Did anyone else pick up The Covenant of Primus?
  4. I'm assuming spinning platters, right? Personally, I'd remove the drives and keep them in your carry-on. The fewer people handling them (especially the way luggage gets handled at airports) the better.
  5. that's a tough question, and I'm sure even experts disagree. It's further complicated by publishers listing things like "quad core" as a requirement for games like BF4 that run just fine on dual core i3s.I personally built three computers in a five year span, but i think it was a combination of factors that led me to do so more than pointing to any one part and thinking it needed upgraded. Truthfully, my previous box was a first-gen i7, and I probably would have been fine just upgrading the GPU. But i had some extra money, the third-gen i7s had come out, and for some reason I never determined, that box was always slow to boot. Suffice to say that, if you invest in good parts to start, you can probably go 5-6 years on GPU upgrades only. If you get into it, though, and build instead of buy, you'll probably be interested in upgrading more or more often.
  6. Yes. Kind of. In fact, IIRC, the 690 is really like two 680 GPUs packed into one card. But there are advantages to a single-card, like reduced power consumption and more efficient cooling. Hence, Titan. Yes. But you can only have two. If you go with Titan, you can have three. That's a super tough call. Because, let's say you wait for the 800 series. By the time you settle on the card that's right for you, you'll be reading about the 900 series. When it comes to computers, there is always something better just around the corner. Me personally, I'll probably buy an 800-series card... but that's because I've already got a 600-series. Which in and of itself was a replacement for a 400-series card, and I skipped the 500-series, just like I'm doing with the 700-series. Of course, you could always buy a 700-series card now, skip the 800s, and upgrade when the 900s come out. But, that's one of the nice things about PCs. You can decide what to upgrade and when. I actually built a whole new computer when I went from the 400 to the 600, but I'm really satisfied with the speed of my computer. So instead of building a new one in a year or two, I'll probably just upgrade the graphics card.
  7. I didn't say it can ultra all games at 1080p and 60fps. I said it can ultra or nearly ultra most games at at least 30fps. So why spend money on a better card? To guarantee ultra, to guarantee 60fps (or more, especially if you're running a 120hz display), to go higher than 1080p (which is more common on monitors than TVs), or to run games on multiple 1080p+ displays. Certainly. Or put another way, Titan is one impressively powerful GPU, the 690 is actually a dual GPU in a single housing. Titan uses less power, has more memory, and a higher clock speed, and is based on the newer 700-series architecture. Because it's a single GPU, it's physically smaller than a 690. However, the 690 is actually more powerful.
  8. In that price range, I'd probably say a Radeon R9 270x would be your best bet. If you're willing to go to $250, though, then get a GeForce GTX 760. For what it's worth, I've been an Nvidia guy for a long time, and the GTX 760 is what I'd buy if I were in the market for a card today (except that I'm not, because I don't think it's a big enough upgrade over the GTX 660ti that I already have). I've been able to play most games at or near the highest settings and stay above 30FPS, with about 3 years in between upgrades. Also, despite being "optimized for AMD", BF4 Central even suggested that the GTX 760 is probably the best bang-for-your-buck card for BF4. Hope that helps!
  9. I don't know... the Walmart's not that far away... Sort of. You can play before the game has finished installing, and the One will pop up a notification letting you know that it's ready. But it seems like the games have to do some installing before it'll let you play, and at least in my case with Forza, that was probably close to 20 minutes of waiting. As a PC gamer, I'm not going to complain too much. I'm used to having to download and install games before I can play them anyway. What I do think is probably the biggest bullshit in gaming, though, is that Microsoft requires an Xbox Live Gold account to use the Netflix app. I mean, seriously, Microsoft? Netflix isn't going to sell Gold subs, it's just going to push me to use my PS3/Wii U/Chromecast/HTPC/Roku/Nexus 7/iPad/smartphone/Vita/3DS instead. Seriously, pretty much every electronic device with a screen or that hooks up to a screen and has an internet connection these days can do Netflix. Microsoft's insistence that it be some kind of "premium" feature for Gold subscribers is just asinine.
  10. So I went to my local Wally World today, because I needed groceries and surprisingly enough Walmart is actually the most convenient place to get groceries for me. It was already 10:30, so I didn't expect to buy anything that wasn't edible. For the hell of it, though, I swung by electronics... and saw two Xbox Ones in the display case. I literally did a double take, verifying that it did say One and not 360, staring at the Kinect on the front of the box. I bought one and a copy of Forza... never did get any groceries. So far, I've got mixed feelings about it. I like the simple, blocky design of the hardware. The controller isn't a huge improvement overt he 360, but to be fair the 360 had a really solid controller, and I do like the One's. The system software is a mixed bag. I actually kinda like the Kinect voice commands, and the way it automatically signs you in when it sees you. I still don't care for Metro, though, and I wish you could set a background wallpaper or something. There are odd quirks, too. Like, at first it would only output stereo to my receiver. Eventually, I discovered that to fix it, I had to change the display settings from automatic (HDMI) to HDMI. Stupid, right? Speaking of receivers, mine had no free slots (being taken by a PS3, Wii U, 360, and a Mac Mini). I just my Mac as an HTPC, so since lag wasn't an issue, I decided to run it through the One. That worked pretty good for me, so I was glad I didn't have to rearrange things too much (at least until I find a PS4). As for games, the install times are indeed pretty ridiculous. Since Forza is still installing, I'll have to wait to talk about it. At this particular moment, it sounds like multiplatform games run better on PS4, but I'd play those on PC. When you take the PC games out, the One seems to have better exclusives... for now. I think that will change.
  11. What's your budget? I was looking into this for a friend awhile back, and we pretty much concluded that AMD is better under $200, Nvidia is better over $200.
  12. The stores in my area are still all sold out, but my area seems like it's getting a little crazy. There's not a lot of shops (maybe because of zoning issues... I know it took almost ten years for the Walmart to get built), so some stores have been crazy crowded. My wife left for a business trip today so we went to Kohl's just to look for hats, since it's going to be in the teens where she's going. But we left when we realized the checkout line was wrapped around to the back of the store. Nothing I want that bad that I can't just get on Amazon.
  13. I love a good comic book movie as much as the next guy, but seriously? We gotta hype hype sequels before the preceding movie hasn't even come out?
  14. No no, you're confusing "game of the year" with "Game of the Year Edition". Man, I can't find an Xbox One, and you're returning yours. First world problems...
  15. I don't think they are. When someone picks a game for Game of the Year, they're saying it's the best game released that year. In other words, if you only play one game that year, it should be that one. If you're going to tell me that a game is Game of the Generation, you're essentially saying that if you only play one game for an entire console generation, it should be that one. And no, I don't think simply the best game you can think of (that's probably from this year because that's what you remember playing) cuts it for that.
  16. Wait, that thing is Rhino? I thought Spider-Man was fight Revenge of the Fallen Ravage there for a minute...
  17. In all seriousness, though, people are entitled to their own opinions, but there's simply no way I can agree that a mediocre zombie game with a decent story defined an entire 7+ year console generation.
  18. While I'm glad that Nvidia is going to start supporting mobile GPUs, I'm not seeing a big advantage to streaming from my laptop. My desktop is significantly more powerful.
  19. I... I didn't even know such a marvelous book existed... Off to Amazon!
  20. I thought that the Shield didn't work with laptop cards? I have a 660M in my laptop, but I haven't tried it with Shield because I have a 660ti in my desktop. As for the Black Friday deals, you may still be able to get it for $250 from Newegg. Think of it as a reason to buy/build a nice gaming tower. Nvidia was also doing bundle deals with some Shield-capable graphics cards.
  21. I wouldn't say he's famous in the "made a legendary franchise" way, like Shigeru Miyamoto or Keiji Inafune, but he has a very unique, bizarre style that, having played one of his games, would make any other Suda 51 games recognizable as his. Personally, I find his games to be interesting on some levels, but not so great from a gameplay standpoint. I thought No More Heroes was OK, but I didn't really care for Killer7 or Shadows of the Damned. I bought Lollipop Chainsaw on clearance at Target, but never got around to playing it. I passed on Killer is Dead, but my friend who bought it said he thought it was good if you're a Suda 51 fan but that otherwise you probably won't like it.
  22. Depends on how much you like Suda 51's games.
  23. Well, to each his own, but I'm not sure that I know many (if any) who'd agree with you. A great game, a Game of the Year, sure (albeit not my choice), but not an entire console generation.
