  1. Would you mind elaborating that point in more detail since I want to know more about Japanese mecha design. I’m a layman with regards to the Gundam franchise but I always found it curious when someone compares other mecha designs to it; it seems to be the default one to compare it to. 🙂 When you say the whole Gundam franchise isn’t that too broad of a spectrum to evaluate Rodimus‘ design? Zeon suits follow a different language than the „hero“ units and given the longevity of the franchise the designers iterated through a lot of designs sometimes refining it, sometimes reinventing it but still keeping core design elements in place. So to what are we comparing the K3 design to? [edit:] Looking at the concept art I don’t know if I see more or less Gundam in it. 😅
  2. I can’t argue that Rodimus shares some design characteristics with Gundams especially in the Don Figueroa mode with the wide shoulders. However I stylized doesn’t automatically mean Gundam. For example he is missing the slim, well defined legs of a Gundam and the hip skirts. He is also not colored white. As for Skids it seems they continued with where they left off with the Datsuns. I like that, compared to the Datsun mold his legs aren’t hollow and the joint in the thighs. However it’s been 8 years since MP Prowl so he also feels a bit like an anachronism since the design has evolved since then.
  3. I will wait ordering mine. Maybe I can get a discount on it next year.
  4. I wonder if the Kairos Plus toys will have better transforming hands that can bend the trigger finger and hold the gun properly. They were the only downside of the VF-31 toys.
  5. Flame Toys showed an armor pack for their Kuro Kara Kuri MTMTE Rodimus that makes him look more like the Don Figueora design: Images courtesy of TFW2005 (https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/flame-toys-products-kuro-kara-kuri-furai-model-furai-action-no-tangential-fembot-topics.1197307/page-108#post-19772671) Base design:
  6. I’m still in for the Hi-Nu since it is my favorite Gundam design I think. But damn that seam line on his back fin is ugly. Straight through the vent. On the other hand Justice has a painted base so he will be ready for his release in January.
  7. I still have hope that a better shield will come with the potential HWS. Ideally the one with the blue and white „splinter camo“.
  8. Overall I like it, I hope he has that purple hue in the gray I can see in the video once it comes out. I think he will look even better once it has all its markings. I‘m not sure about the bare metal of the chest pipes and the color choices for the chest vents. It is just too much metal color in one area.
  9. Wing Gundam early color version available at BBTS if you are willing to pay the markup. But hey, at least it is not NY: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/186384 Speaking of NY: https://www.nippon-yasan.com/figures/35883-gundam-fix-figuration-metal-composite-wing-gundam-ew-early-color-ver-limited-edition.html
  10. I think it’s well loved because it was one of the first anime that ran at a major television station during prime time and had a good dub as well, at least in my country. Thus to many it was the first exposure to a „cartoon“ that dealt with mature themes and looked stylish and cool with great music. So for many adolescent teenagers it had a massive impact. This could also be the reason why the show is not remembered the same way in Japan as in the West. It just wasn’t a formative experience.
  11. Yes please to all the Metal Build Gundams, the EVA-00 and the Deathscythe. The Hi-Nu looks stunning. I love the more angular design compared to the Ver Ka MG version.
  12. True, but it is excruciating how slow the story is progressing. I want to know more about the world and the fate of everyone missing but we don’t get to that. It is still excellent though. I’m also watching the faraway Paladin and the World’s finest Assassin. Both are good but I don’t know what to make of them yet.
  13. @mikeszekely I wouldn’t start the game. I think I’m facing the final boss right now and I have to quit. I’m tempted to just watch the ending on Youtube. Maybe I’m in a better mood tomorrow.
  14. I’m currently playing Skyward Sword HD on the Switch and I don’t know what it is (maybe I’ve been in a terrible mood lately and didn’t notice) but I can’t get myself to enjoy the game. I need to split it up into 60 minute chunks because otherwise I would throw my Switch against the wall. Worst Zelda game I’ve played by far. Replacing Majoras Mask (I need to play it again since it seems to have fans) at the bottom by a wide margin. The obnoxious combat, the constant backtracking into small, uninteresting areas, the dozens of unimaginative collecting quests: Urgh. I’m currently in Sky Keep (of course it is in an already explored area) and I keep wondering of the whole Imprisoned thing will lead to anything other than it is Ganon in disguise. The dungeons are cool but everything else is an ordeal.
  15. I see, thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
  16. I primarily buy robot toys because I appreciate the mechanical design. If the attached media is good it is an added bonus. While I respect the notion that you have to like the characters the merch is representing there are collectors with other preferences out there. And it is not limited to toy collectors. I think you would have a hard time finding someone who likes the Mona Lisa because he is a fan of the person depicted in the painting. That said, I want a: DX Elysion, a DX VF-2SS and a VF-1S Max Custom to be announced.
  17. For me it would be interesting to have a Game and Watch replica but I don’t have any nostalgia for the 8bit games or Game and Watch in general. My first video game system was the SNES and it will be forever burnt into my mind as my first experience in and pinnacle of gaming. I tried to play the original Zelda and the NES Metroid (as a preparation for Dread) and while I can appreciate what they did for gaming the actual games are not that good compared to their SNES counterparts. A Link to the Past and Super Metroid are considered a timeless classic for a reason.
  18. Good review Mike, I think it is a real shame that they didn’t lean harder into the Grimlock aesthetic. To me it was always the natural think to do (repainting Beast Wars Megatron into Grimlock that is). At least they should have painted the chest golden, maybe even remold it. As is it is just too much red. I think even painting the chest vents would have helped. If I remember correctly the consensus was that JP93 is based on the Cyberverse Deluxe Prowl mold.
