  1. Micro-ATX is great for computers that won't be doing much or single function boxes. I found them to be a better solution to people who just need a system to do Office/'Net, HTPCs (I can go smaller with HTPCs though), and home servers.
  2. Cooling is gonna be a little harder since it's all compacted in there, unless you are putting this into a ATX case as opposed to a Micro-ATX. If you are, then cooling shouldn't be an issue. Wire management might be a problem. You may need to do some creative wire management to not restrict airflow in a micro-ATX case. But any problem won't cause you a major headaches.
  3. I'm bouncing around in the Glossary sheets and working on some timeline stuff (i.e. the History sheets) for Frontier. I don't think I'll be getting to any mecha for a bit.
  4. It's called "Eminent domain". And yes, the it regards the government seizing property for usage. So this is not HG's territory.
  5. Great more stuff to look at. I can understand some of the legal-ise and a quick look at the conclusion seems to indicate that Tatsunoko's claims were rejected dismissed.
  6. Talk about mold-milking. So when is the Full-armored coming... Say it with me, BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA! BOMBA!
  7. Acer only sells a up to a 6-cell battery for that model so this 10-cell battery is from a 3rd party manufacturer. If it's suppose to work this netbook, then you are welcome to try it. I would back up any useful data on the system before I switch batteries as a precaution.
  8. Squatting would imply they aren't doing bull-dung with the trademark. That gawd-awful "Stealth" VF-thingofabob says otherwise, unfortunately.
  9. Unfortunately, we are not sure that BW is doing that because no one has seen their contracts. They can sell it as a 3rd party vendor. They don't need to go directly to Manga Video to sell it. They can get it through a distributor and then sell it like any retail store. From the looks of it, BW abandoned (let it die or never renewed it) the trademark in 2000. No one was using it as of 2002 when HG file for it so I can't answer why BW never followed up on it.
  10. It would be called "exclusive rights" which can be worded into a contract. This is done quite a bit. Cell phone companies and cellphone carriers are littered with these deals. And it doesn't have to be BW or the IP holder that puts that language into a contract, it can be the other party. The other side can say, "if we are going to support your product, then we and our subsidiaries want exclusive rights to it." So if the IP company decides to do some business elsewhere, the company with exclusive rights to the property can butt in and say they have a contract which says we have certain rights to certain areas and that they need to involved in any contract negotiations pertaining to those areas of interest. And yes, it can be done by the IP holder if they don't want certain parties interfering with their property, i.e. "I will give exclusive rights to this product you if you do not transfer to a 3rd party or not include me in any kind of contract negotiations." Although, then we get into a some other issues which would probably force me to read up on monopolistic laws.
  11. IIRC, the VF-17 has horizontal thrust-vectoring and the VF-171 inherits this feature.
  12. *pray* Please have a clear and concise answer as to the exact difference between this and the QF-4000 Ghost. The Glossary doesn't make it quite clear... */pray* Space whales are mecha? Minmay is now the VF-1 of the Character sheets. There, I said it.
  13. See, now do all of you people understand my ranting about people not reading? But I digress.... Do you mean for new shows or for the LAM? I recall them coming up with new designs but nothing that made it to an production. Creatively/Artistically, I can't answer that. Legally, they just need to keep up the trademark or they lose it. Simple as that. As I've said, REBOOT and REIMAGE. Take the core ideas and have someone build a world. New mecha, new ships, same names but update it. RT:SC tried and failed (lesson here: Don't try). This gives creators and artists room to play things out without being tied to any particular continuity. It gives them a chance to flex the creative muscles and do something unique.
  14. I asked you people to keep discussions to a minimum but obviously that was too hard. Therefore, No discussions will be allowed in this topic. This topic will be for news and news only. Yapping posts will be deleted.
  15. Site linky
  16. It will depend on which video card you get. The PSU shouldn't be a problem. But getting a high-end video card to fit in there will probably give you problems.
  17. Roughly. Turn off the computer, unplug it from the wall, lay it down on it's side, pull out all the plugs going to the various sockets on the various parts, unscrew the PSU (there should be 4 screws holding it in from the back of the case), pull the old PSU out (it may held in by a latch after unscrewing it), put the new one in and go in reverse of how you pulled the old one out. It depends on the manufacturer. Mileage may vary. Normally larger wattage units are slightly bigger (maybe 1cm larger) than lower wattage-range units to accommodate some better features (larger fan, more circuitry, better power savings, etc).
  18. I think you guys are confusing freelancing with Work-for-hire. Work for Hire (or work made for hire) vs. Freelancer The people who worked on it don't own the copyright to RT:SC so it's not freelancing.
  19. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16883107398 Looks like it will fit a standard PSU to me.
  20. In this case, it could be both. But bets are being put on the LAM. If they want to put out a new animated series that will run off the success of a LAM, then they might want to hurry up and green-light the script that what's-his-face is making and start producing it. Otherwise, any new RT show is going to just sit there in development hell. But then again, a LAM could completely flop and kill any chance to bring a new cartoon out.
  21. While fine for a HTPC, a higher-end graphics card might be a problem on 2 fronts. 1) Power supply. A 8120n uses a 300~350W PSU. You're gonna have to update the power supply to something in the 450-500W range. Fortunately, this isn't the bad part (we'll get to that next). A new PSU in that range runs about $35-50 USD. In some cases, you can get something better than 500W in that price range. Just be on the look-out for some deals. 2) Now for the bad news. Most high-end graphics cards are fairly big. Like in the 10-inches-range-big. A 8120n is 15.6 inches in width. Anything high-end might not fit well or might not fit at all. In fact, you might need to remove parts to make it fit. So any card that you get, you'll need to be sure it physically fits.
  22. The Robot Damashii Q-Rhea is coming out in November. I have, unfortunately, not heard a peep about the 1/72 model. I suspect they are attempting to press the VF-27-mold to the factory on-time as opposed to getting a new mold out.
  23. This might help you with the cards, visually. Here's an example of the slots, visually. At the top is a PCIe x1 (or x4) slot. Next down is a PCIe x16 slot. Notice it is the longest and has a latch on it. The next 2 white colored-slots going down, are regular PCI slots.
  24. In order to make things easier when making recommendations for a new system, in the future, please include answers to these questions if you want a recommendation. Feel free to add additional details where applicable. "Recommend me a system" questionnaire (answer questions in the section that applies) Laptops 1) What is the intended usage of this system? (ex. Internet/Email/Office/Pictures/Movies/Gaming/Server/CAD/Media Center/etc.) 2) What operating system will you use? (ex. Windows/Mac OS/Linux/etc.) 3) How much are you planning to spend or What is your intended budget for this system? 4) How big of a screen size or How important is the screen size? 5) Do you intend to use an external display/monitor? 6) Do you intend on traveling with the laptop or will the system remain stationary? 7) How important is the battery life or How much usage do you expect on battery only? Desktops and Servers 1) What is the intended usage of this system? (ex. Internet/Email/Office/Pictures/Movies/Gaming/Server/CAD/Media Center/etc.) 2) What operating system will you use? (ex. Windows/Mac OS/Linux/etc.) 3) How much are you planning to spend or what is your intended budget for this system? 4) Do you intend to buy a pre-built or a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) system?
  25. You can also try the Dell Studio 16 or the Dell Studio 15 if 17" is too large. Both come with the option to upgrade to a Blu-Ray drive and can be reasonable under $1000. You can also try the HP G70t series. It has a 17" screen and you can order it with a Blu-Ray drive if you want. All of these can be bumped up in specs for below $1000. If necessary, RAM can be upgraded with via 3rd-party vendor (Newegg, TigerDirect, etc.).
