  1. I do agree that MP Hot Rod is a well-made representation of the 80's animation. I guess the reason I'm disappointed about the non-integrated trailer is because IIRC, the animated TV show back then showed Rodimus transforming from alt mode to bot mode with the trailer integrated, instead of rolling away off-screen like Optimus' does. I could accept OP's "disappearing" trailer because it was shown as such in the show. When I first heard that Takara planned to design a Hot Rod that could be "morphed" into a fully transformable Rodimus Prime, I thought they meant he could transform with the integrated camper parts and all, and I was really curious to see how they could pull it off. Turns out they couldn't...at least, not in the way I expected. BTW, G1 OP's trailer didn't so much transform as convert into a headquarters with Roller inside. The trailer that DID transform was Ultra Magnus.
  2. Glad I decided not to buy it. Was never a Hot Rod[imus] fan in the first place. I was thinking about buying him to go with a possible Galvatron they'd inevitably release in the future, but the whole non-integrated camper mode thing really put me off.
  3. Voted yes. Totally in love with the updated VF-1 looks. Hell, go for it; I'll buy 'em all!
  4. I see. I guess you're right in that it's cheaper for Yamato to make M7 VF-19 variants, since they're molds that haven't been made before. As for whether there's demand for them or not, I'd say the YF-19 would probably win in a popularity contest. I haven't watched M7, so I've no idea if any notable characters have piloted the variants before, but IRRC from several Macross sites, they were primarily used by support characters, since Basara's got his Fire Kai, and Gamlin has his VF-17 for the TV series, and the VF-22S Sturmvogel II in Mac7 Dynamite. Personally, I'd be more likely to buy a V2 YF-19 than a VF-19 variant. The design of the latter just don't appeal to me all that much. My bad. Thanks for the correction, man. Yes, please. Thanks.
  5. Voted for the VF-19EF Caliburn [it's the Mac-R valk that Chelsea chick uses, right?]. Of course, the V2 YF-19 stands a far better chance at getting made, since Yamato already owns the MacPlus license, and it just needs a retooling of the Fire Kai fig they're already working on. As busy as they are making Mac7 figs right now, there's no telling if they might pick up the Macross-R license anytime soon, or if Bandai might snatch it up first.
  6. Purely my personal opinion, but I think the V2's are probably as durable as you might expect of any high end action figure. They obviously won't stand up to rough handling [read: angry five-year-old with a Transformer], but with care and common sense, they should hold up pretty well. Personally, I've never like the way the arms transform, having to bend the tabs up and over that nub, but the latest V2's with the non-rainbow tinted canopies seem to have far looser screws, making it easier to get over the nub--at least that's the case for my VF-1A TV Kakizaki and TV VF-1S Roy. I don't own any V1's or 1/48's to make a comparison, but I really don't think there's any durability problem with the V2's, especially the latest releases. One thing, though. If you like to mount FAST packs onto your VF-1's, try putting a piece of cloth or paper between the radar[?] nub and the tailfins. The first time I put FAST packs onto my brand new VF-1S TV Roy, I noticed a discoloration on the tailfin. It was only mounted for like an hour or so before I removed it.
  7. If you don't mind my butting in, I seriously recommend ROTF Optimus. He's about 90% accurate to the CG model, except for the lack of that "collar bone" thing between his chest plates and the extra depth to his body to make space for the voice chip and batteries. Articulation is decent as well. His only weak point are the blades on his arms. They get in the way A LOT when stowed, although you can remove them if you want--requires a little bot dissection, though. Other than OP, I also suggest HA Jazz and Barricade. Jazz's Takara version looks almost like a non-transformable model car due to his untinted clear plastic windscreen and headlights. Articulation is second to none. HA Barricade is the best version out there, beating out the deluxe version by far. The only bummer is his somewhat restricted hip articulation. This, however, can be easily remedied by cutting off the two pieces of plastic on both sides of the legs. Hope this helps.
  8. Now I've been known to be a Fire Kai hater, but even I have to say the fig looks gorgeous. It's appropriately glossy like in the anime, and the extra bulk looks good on it. Dunno if I might put down any money for a design I've always disliked [VERY tempted to buy it, though], but it'd look pretty darn sweet retooled as a Blazer or a YF-19.
  9. If Yamato made a 1/60 PT figure of that, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
  10. Isamu, but only the 3-part OVA version. His irrepressible/comical cockiness is fun to watch, not to mention his mad-ass skills in whooping rogue Zentraedi ass. His movie version? Not so much, due to excessive douche-baggery. Max ranks a close second. Personality-wise, he's Isamu's direct opposite, but the man actually married an alien chick who tried to kill him....that's gotta count for something.
  11. IMO, part of the problem lies with the availability of replacement parts from Yamato. HLJ is only in charge of getting the parts from Yamato before shipping it to you. It also depends on which customer support guy takes up your case. Some are noticeably more helpful than others, and reply more frequently.
  12. Okay, at least that's not so bad. Would have been great if they had a paypal billing agreement like HLJ; would make things a whole lot more convenient.
  13. I feel you, man. It took me over four months to get my Nora replaced, and that was after a whole dozen emails I had to send before I finally got a definitive answer. At first, they offered to send me replacement parts, which never reached me after three months of waiting. When I emailed them and asked for an update, they said they'd check with Yamato, and I had to wait another two weeks before again asking for an update. Only then did they tell me they couldn't find the parts for me, and asked me to send back the busted one for a replacement. The customer support guy was pretty helpful, but the inherent red tape I had to cut through was a nightmare! That said, I still buy from them, but only if the prices are cheaper than elsewhere (like in the recent Macross sale). More importantly, I'll never risk buying a potential lemon from them--one of the reasons why I stayed away from their VT-1 Super Ostrich, despite the discount and potential discontinuation. And if I had any interest in buying the Ivanov (which is out of stock, anyways), I no longer do, after the Nora incident.
  14. You're right. I just checked the anime, and it looks pretty similar to the figure (the upper half, anyways). Couldn't really make out the details in the anime, though. Then again, BRS sports a much larger canon in her action figures and statues, but in the anime it was really downsized. I guess the figs aren't really meant to be 100% anime-accurate, which is fine by me if it's an improvement. As for Strength, I actually like her fig better than her anime incarnation; IMO, she looks somewhat more "chibi" in the anime.
  15. So the white-haired girl's called Strength, huh? Is it just me or do her weapons look different here? IIRC, they looked like pile-drivers things in the anime, not gauntlets. Gotta watch the DVD again to confirm. I see they actually included the bio-mechanical vertebra/tail thing, too. Wonder if it's articulated as well.
  16. They blacklist you too?! Man, thank God I sent the payment to them in time. Gotta stick a post-it on the side of my monitor to remind me to manually pay them whenever I buy stuff from AmiAmi.
  17. Thanks for the info, guys. Flexidisplays and VF-0's it is.
  18. I just got my Ghost Booster from AmiAmi. Does anyone know if you can mount it on a Yamato display stand or mighty block? It doesn't come with any stand attachments, and there are no instructions in the manual for mounting it on a Yammie stand in the manual, but there's a detachable-looking piece on the underside of the toy. Anybody know?
  19. I'm no fan of stickers either. The only exception is the YF-19's fighting kite emblem on the sides of the neck. Would have been nice if they could tampo it on, but I guess the way the two parts split apart might pose a problem. This is just a theory, but could it be due to residual mold release on the plastic? It's common practice for model kit builders to wash their kits with soapy water to get rid of any mold grease that might prevent any paint or topcoat from adhering.
  20. If the potato chip theory holds true, I'll be pre-ordering this one the second it's announced at my local hobby store.
  21. Probably old news, but Kotobukiya and Yamato has just joined HLJ's "our price" system! The only caveat is that there won't as many sales as now, if HLJ's newsletter is to be believed. I just hope we won't end up actually spending more, if HLJ cuts down on their sales.
  22. Dude, that's an awesome display room. I like how you make those little description stands with the Macross logo and fighting kite symbol. BTW, I also like to display my Valks with figures of their respective pilots. Thing is, the only one I've got a really old Roy and Quamzin fig that came with the Arii model kits I bought ages ago.
  23. There's a Wheeljack fig in the works that's gonna be a repaint and retool of Tracks, and from the preliminary pics, he looks to be an even better toy than Tracks. The alt mode actually looks more similar to Wheeljack's G1 car mode than Tracks's Corvette.
  24. Gah, I can't believe the silly mistakes I made! I ordered a Ghost Booster B from AmiAmi which was on back-order, and they sent me an email last week telling me my order is ready and in stock. Having been so used to the Paypal billing agreement with HLJ, I completely ignored it and waited for a shipping notice until, out of a whim, I checked the email and realize I had to manually pay them by the 17th. Thank God I sent them the payment in time. Thing is, I rechecked the site, and it says the Ghost Booster is on back order again. What I'd like to know is, will AmiAmi reserve an item for me, as long as I paid them in time? So even if the item's on backorder, they're saving one from the last batch for me until the 7 day period expires, right? I mean, I did pre-order first and paid in time.
