  1. Whoa, is that a MAXL? Looking mighty fine for something that is all anime magic!
  2. You can make a paint booth yourself using some plywood and a range hood. Scope around and see if anybody has a range hood to sell or give away and then design your box around it. Don't go too cheap on an airbrush. Give this page: https://sites.google.com/site/donsairbrushtips/ a read for some info on airbrushes. He reviewed a gamut of airbrushes, from the mega cheap to the higher end.
  3. Another suggestion: Get a really good airbrush, but a cheap (and noisy) oil less compressor. I'm using one I bought at a hardware store for $50, and while it is noisy as heck it does hold 100 psi in a 2 gallon tank, which means that once it is filled, it doesn't have to run for a while. As a bonus, if you need to fill your car's tires or anything else that needs a compressor, it can do double duty! I'd rather get a quality airbrush rather than something cheap that will cause you no end to frustration. My setup: http://www.amazon.com/Badger-Air-Brush-Patriot-Gravity-Airbrush/dp/B002W84GTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420455207&sr=8-1&keywords=Badger+105 I use this airbrush for everything. Easy to use, and easy to clean. I do find the trigger is a little stiff out of the box, but that is adjustable by loosening a spring. and this powers it: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mastercraft-2-gallon-air-compressor-0587000p.html#.VKpthHsn49Y Noisy, but dependable. I do switch my hearing-aids to "noisy bar" for noise reduction and it pretty much kills the sound reaching my ears, and damaging what hearing I have left. For everybody else, earplugs! Of course, if you live in a situation where a noisy compressor isn't an option, do get something like one SchizophrenicMC suggested. Whatever you do, don't get disposable cans of airbrush propellant. It will eat your wallet alive.
  4. Perhaps it gums up over time? I've had several tins of Tamiya go bad on me (we're talking weeks later) back when I was using rubbing alcohol to thin my paints. I haven't had it happen since I switched to the official thinner. I have had the paint deposit itself inside my airbrush several times, but that's remedied with a good cleaning and a reminder to do a thorough flush after every use.
  5. Well, now that I've figured out what does what (button map diagram was required for my X-55, but not included), I'm just having fun wandering around. I haven't put too much time into it, but I did go and do basic combat, and some exploration. The features are supposed to evolve, so I think in a year, the game will be vastly different, kinda like how Diablo 3 is a very different (but still a quest for more loot) game now than it was at launch.
  6. The decals on the shoulder were rather tricky to apply. In particular, the two stripe pieces, as they needed to go around lots of curves. I recommend lots of decal solvent to get them to lay down properly. Given the nature of the character, and the killer box art, I decided to dirty up the Zaku. It was a fun time going overboard with the weathering.
  7. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35120&page=41#entry1035186 I liked how my Shin turned out after I attacked it with a massive dose of dry brushing. Zakus only look good when they're filthy!
  8. Anybody picked up Elite: Dangerous yet? I've gotten it this morning and finished installing it just now. Looks real pretty, and the tutorials (or places where you can screw up and it doesn't matter), are functional. Plus, it came with a profile for my X-55 built into the game. So far, the controls are a bit "weird" for a space sim. The stick functions like an airplane control column, in that the X axis is for roll, and Y is for pitch. Yaw is handled by the Z axis (with the possibility of using rudder pedals). I'm more used to X-wing's Tie-Fighter, and Freespace's way of controlling the ship, with the Z axis being the roll. Aim assist is kinda neat, with your visible guns gimballing slightly to help you hit your target, and lasers actually are undodgeable if your aim is true! I have 2 days off from work, so I think I'll be zipping about the galaxy for a bit!
  9. We could... OR, we could reverse hack THEM and make them watch/listen to Team America and The Interview. I'm just saddened that this whole thing caused a movie to be pulled and shelved because one guy couldn't handle a joke.
  10. I thought it was for the irony aspect. Here was this guy, who had the charisma to lead a bunch of people into the unknown, with very little chance of survival, who couldn't handle the possibility that he wasn't the one. There was all this admiration for Dr. Mann, and much respect, and thus it's a bit of a shock to see things unfold the way they did in the movie. Hence, the lies, and the other stuff that happens in the movie. However, his character arc reminds us of our humanity, and the potential to fall.
  11. I miss the glory days of Apollo... If we were running at Apollo's pace, we would be seeing a crewed mission within 6 months, and within a year, we'd be orbiting the moon.
  12. Some people are much better at handling isolation (others... not so much). He also had the knowledge that Cooper and company were going to come back sometime in the future.
  13. I think the issue with blu-rays are that they're by default set for the surround mix. You might have success with using a 2.0 mix if the disk offers that particular track. But yes, I too use the subtitles frequently. It's that or rewind the movie many times turning a 2 hour movie into a 5-6 hour marathon...
  14. That is my number one complaint from most movies (aside from audience interference). I am already partially deaf, and I place a huge emphasis on dialogue. I don't like it when I can't hear what the actors are saying when the background noise is too loud. I missed about half of what was being said in Guardians of the Galaxy, for this very reason. While I loved this movie, I wish the soundtrack was about 5-10 decibels lower when there was dialogue going on. It wasn't hard to follow, but it took a couple of seconds for me to process what was being said. Can't wait for the OST to be released on Monday.
  15. I still have my floppies for X-wing. Playing these games again really takes me back to those summers of zipping about in the Star Wars universe.
  16. I am scared while playing it, so I guess that's a way of enjoying it. I've only had 2 glimpses of the alien so far, and now I'm dealing with the helpful androids. Just found out that hand to hand is a very, very bad idea.
  17. I've gotten it for the PC. Looks really pretty, and really feels like you're in the sets of the first movie. I'm a couple of hours into it and I'm really enjoying it.
  18. I grabbed mine at fan expo in Toronto yesterday out of a full size Prowl for $80 CDN with taxes. It hasn't hit any of the local Toys r us yet. I was a very happy guy!
  19. I recently dragged my copy of the old MG of GP01fb out of storage. Slapping it together. I remember getting it through amazon.com and having to borrow someone's shipping address (and offering incentives) as it was $10 for the kit, and amazon.com wouldn't ship to Canada... Worked out all right in the end, got the MG GP01, GP01fb and Kämpfer for $10 apiece, and he got the GM and another kit in return for shipping the rest as cheaply as possible to me. This was back in the day when you could buy Gundam models at Toys R Us. Those were nice times...
  20. Oh, and despite how the instructions are laid out, you can build a Detolf by yourself. It is, however, easier with another person.
  21. OK. Back at it for a bit. Not too hard, but the instructions could use a mention as to which side should be facing you when you start to do multiple folds, in particular the two pieces that begin to form the fuselage top. The next step involves the multiple pieces that form the nose. YIKES! Not too happy with a couple of the glue joints. I may zap it with some de-bonder and try again.
  22. I think I can make something like that in about 10-15 min with some sheet plastic! Might have to build that!
  23. The Black Knights always triumph! Have at you!
  24. Thanks WM! I've followed your previous threads with jealousy and envy back in the day! Today's progress: Nothing too much to report, but some observations: Bending the small tabs must be done with precision. You've only got a little bit of leeway before metal fatigue begins to want to crack the small bend joints. These bends can be achieved by hand or with a small set of tweezers. I've tried both, and the tweezers are a little easier. You can see in the first shot the tape I've applied to the rear side of the fret, and after cutting the part out, I just peel the tape off a bit to pull the part away. I do wish that the pieces fit together with a bit more tightness, so that they don't move around while I'm gluing them, however. EDIT: I realized I probably should mention that it's best to install the three pieces in the order of front-to-back, although putting the first, and third, and then the middle piece will work out too. Naturally, since this is all metal, a mistake can be fixed with a little bit of debonder and a re-try.
