  1. Well, just thought I'd give the heads up. No biggie I know.
  2. Really amazing work. I wish I had skills like that.
  3. I heard it just makes the whole head glow when you turn it on... I can vouch for that! Ever time I turn that thing on it reminds of how thin and poor the plastic is, compared to the yamatos. Which Valk do you have? I just switched on the light in my Max VF-1J, and only the only part that lights up is what's supposed to. For the 35 bucks I spent on it, it's not a bad display piece. I just can't afford a Yamato at the moment.
  4. I side with Duke Togo, it's still a tad early to declare it crap. I want to see where they take it first. Episode 2 of the Renewal's been released. I'll have to check it out. It could be that I'm just seeing things you don't notice JELEINEN. People percieve things differently after all. What's perfect to you could be too bright in my book. I've yet to put it on my Loewe, so I'm going by my laptop's monitor. Maybe when they finish releasing it, I'll do a marathon, and then decide if the renewals worth my time. As for them releasing the open-matte version, I too am a OAR advocate. However, since I already have episode six in it's widescreen glory, I look forward to seeing it open-matte.
  5. I primarily use a 32" Loewe Arcada. It's 4:3, digital(might be SD, Loewe stinks at giving info on their website), and makes just about everything, including my vast VHS library look outstanding. It can handle anamorphic material just like your's Hurin except I have generally one large black bar at the top. It really is the best of both worlds. It also has a VGA input, so I can watch my fansubs straight off my laptop. I love that TV, it's the only worthy seccessor to the Silvania of my childhood. I just noticed that I voted incorrectly. I selected Digital 4:3, when I should have selected Digital 4:3 with 16:9 pulldown.
  6. At least the official poster is worlds ahead of that sad excuse for a teaser. Really, did they honestly think that not so hidden image was clever?
  7. I definitely remembered the bucket head Breetai. They took this cool character, and made him look absolutely ridiculous.
  8. They came up with "Wipe-out Girl" when they translated that one line as: "I heard her father was the admiral whose fleet was wiped out." As for the encode, I could believe that some of it might affect how it looks, but I doubt it would affect the look of the lines as much. Like I said, I'll have to look at the original to know for sure. It just seems like a mixed bag, even more so than the Eva one. I also joined their forum to ask a bit about the project. They're going to use the open-matte version of episode six.
  9. Hmm, I saw some of The Sentinals. I don't think I made it to any of these characters. That guy behind her does indeed look like William Defoe crossed with Ricardo Montalbal. If either were actually in this thing, I'd be forced to watch. That much I know. That Janice seems to go from appearing to be cute to looking downright evil.
  10. I'd actually never heard of this group until they released one of the Green Green character DVDs. They probably aren't the highest quality, but it can't be much worse than the old subs of the first volume. I haven't had time to watch it myself. I've skipped through it though to check things out. I'm not sure I like Noriko being refered to as "Wipe Out Girl". If memory serves, the Literal Translation series translaed it as "Daughter of Defeat". That sounds a bit better to me. Still, at least they didn't skip over it like USR. As for the remaster, it's a mixed bag. Some of the color depth seems to be lost. What's really glaring though is that some of the lines look rough. I don't know if the process they used to restore it caused them to look as such, or if they were always like that. A lot of shots seem smoothed out. Other shots didn't look as sharp as they could be. The white level also seems too high in some shots. It's like they over brightened it. It's kind of like my initial impressions of the Eva remaster. It had looked like they merely darkened the contrast, upped the brightness, and added a yellow tint (that's honestly what all the pics looked like). It would help if I had the original side by side for comparison, as the pic don't help too much. This just looks a tad too digital to me. I'll have to rewatch my tape then watch this to know for sure.
  11. Any pics of this MPC Prime? While I was never that big on the cartoons, I still have quite a few of my old toys.
  12. True. Still, one can't blame them for the gesture. They themselves consider the title no longer available. Given general opinion on fansubbing what's considered licensed material, I feel it's a smart move at least. Chances are, Manga won't even bother. Heck, before ADV got the rights to it, there were rips of the Eva Renewal. Two actually, one fansubbed, the other with ADV's subs(which, sadly, was of higher quality). It wasn't until I saw these that I stopped badmouthing the renewal (all the pics I saw looked like they had barely done anything to it). Still, it's nice to have the fansub for people who can't get ahold of the R2s or the old tapes. At least I can keep my USRs in good shape now. I even asked if they'll get around to the science lessions. They might eventually. It would be great if Bandai got the license to it. While I rarely rebuy any of my VHS on DVD, if they were to put it out with new subs and the extra science lessions, I'd have to pick it up.
  13. You mean the scenes that got cut for the video releases? All in all, I'm a tad leary on this whole TV idea. If done well, it might be worthwhile. It would be nice if they explored other parts of the story. Kind of like the "Tales from" short stories. I can't really see them focusing too much on the Rebellion, as they had won their first major battle before ANH. Still, it might be interesting to see more of the great Jedi purge and Mon Mothma and Garm Bel Iblis founding the Rebel Alliance. I guess it will all depend on how good Episode III turns out to be. Still, I'd rather see sequels as I do agree that knowing how the story ends does tend to detract from things. There's so much interesting material to cover post RotJ. The fall of Coruscant, the reformation of the Jedi Order, the establishment of the New Republic, and so on. I've enjoyed the EU quite a bit, and would love to see some of it put to film, however unlikely it would be.
  14. A fansub group just released the first episode of the renewal. Sounds like a nice chance to see it without USR's loose subs. They've already outright said that they'll pull it if Manga has a problem with it.
  15. I'm reminded of why I never cared for Superman. I was more of a Batman fan when it came to DC. Gotta love old comics/cartoons.
  16. Seeing as I haven't really seen Mospeada and the fact that the pose is practically the same as the Macross one, I'll pass.
  17. Very interesting stuff. I always like seeing creativity like this.
  18. Well I just watched it, and I must say I was impressed. The art was beautiful, and the story was well crafted. The beginning was a little jerky, but the rest was great. It kind of makes me want to see Hoshi no Koe now. That and learn to fly and play the violin. I reaslly enjoyed it.
  19. I'll probably watch it tomorrow. I still haven't seen Hoshi no Koe. I've liked the little I've seen however.
  20. Where are these pictures? I couldn't find them on Yamato's website.
  21. Official Survivor Congratulations! You scored 77! Whether through ferocity or quickness, you made it out. You made the right choice most of the time, but you probably screwed up somewhere. Nobody's perfect, at least your alive. Test statistics: * Compared to users who took the test and are and in your age group: o 100% had lower survivalpoints scores. * With respect to survivalpoints, users aged 25 to 29 scored highest. My zombie movie fan friend would be proud.
  22. They actually gave an explanation!! I love Star Trek, but Enterprise needs to die and disappear. Let Star Trek fall off the map for a couple of years then take JMS up on his offer when he's availible again. They're hammering it into the ground. It's rather messed up that someone can afford to blow 3 million to try to save a lousy TV show, yet we still have underfunded atempts to cure cancer and other important things.
  23. Ummm, their translations were those of the bootlegs. They cleaned some stuff up, but I think they only released one pure fansub. They barely qualified to be listed on Animesuki. I'm hoping Central Anime might get around to it when they finish with M7, LoGH, Touch, or Yamato. Their IRC channel's still up.
