  1. I will definitely paint the Vatshu, but the kit is not near the top of my stash atm. Part fit is quite good, but not on Bandai's shake-n-bake level. You will have to clean a lot of molding seams and pouring gates on the parts if you want the polished look of a Mortar Headd. Since the Vatshu was one of the earlier releases, Volks might have improved the quality in the meantime.
  2. I have the 1/100 IMS Vatshu, and while the tooling wasn't 100% at the time (some flash and quite large pouring channels at delicate edges), the sculpt is excellent.
  3. My favorite non-canon ship is this interpretation of the McQuarrie configuration: http://www.galacticempire.org/2011/11/star-trek-uss-edward-teller-nx-27cln.html It retains the elegant lines of the yacht-like TMP aesthetics, yet it looks like a starship and not like a hood ornament or a toy. the reduced color palette also helps a lot.
  4. I wonder if this is a hint that they'll roll "Innocence" into this movie?
  5. We'll see if they go hyperreal like Hase or choose a more streamlined, anime look.
  6. Alternatively, the tickets for a supersonic ride in the Tu-144 were competitively priced at 82 Rubel - provided you had any business to do in Kazachstan...
  7. Um, aren't the fans supposed to go into the inlets?
  8. Nice work! Do you have access to a 2D cutter table?
  9. I love the very balanced weathering and paint choices. Did you happen to snap any picture with closed canopy?
  10. I think the standard size nozzle that comes with the 350 is M size (0.7 mm), you can get a larger nozzle & needle which would be helpful for car modeling, where you have to cover larger areas quickly and need more paint output. But you do not need a fine nozzle to work on details, nozzle size is more related to the kind of paint you want to use. Here's a review of the Badger 350: https://sites.google.com/site/donsairbrushtips/badger-350
  11. The pilot figures normally have molded belt details, so you just need some tape to brigde between the figure and the seat.
  12. A custom mix of Tamiya sky blue and purple 4:1. It's my "Gundam Blue".
  13. I use very little brush painting, mostly due to Tamiya paints being easily dissolved when you paint over them. On this figure, I brush painted the eyes, the black stripes on her bodysuit, and the black recesses on her feet. And of course, no matter how careful you mask, there's always some correction by brush needed somewhere on the borders. I put on all the armor in the meantime, just need to repair the paint on one piece where I drilled to far...
  14. I think this is more of a general problem. Personally, when it comes to designs from a western SF franchise that I must have as a kit, I'm totally stuck in the 70s/80s - Classic SW Trilogy, Buck Rogers Starfighter, Eagle Transporter, Blade Runner Spinner etc. The last modern design that made it into my collection is the Nu Galactica. The rest of the new stuff, be it Star Wars or others, usually just "mehs" me. Though I'd buy a kit of the District 9 dropship in a heartbeat, or Starlord's ride from GotG. And I have a Shuttle in my stash that I want to build as the STS Explorer from "Gravity"...
  15. I use Tamiya acrylics with my trusty Badger 350 single action airbrush, starting with a 1:1 paint to thinner mix, with some paints, especially the glossy ones, you have to add a tad more thinner. I begin with a low paint feed on the recessed areas and edges, then apply a light base coat at the open surfaces. After this has dried to the touch, I just repeat the process, if necessary, for flat paints. For glossy finishes, I apply a very wet coat of paint in one pass. The goal is to get just as much paint on the surface so that it will self-level, without having it running or pooling. For primer, I just use grey paint, and I try to avoid top coats.
  16. Yup, it's the C.
  17. Of the new Revell kits, the Kylo Ren shuttle was actually decent, but the fixed wings were kind of inexcusable.
  18. Is that a VF-1EX box in the background?
  19. Putting the final touches on Ria and wrecking my nerves in the process
