Star Trek Into Darkness, in theaters May 17, 2013

The special edition BR will have extra lens flare. In fact, there will be a whole disc containing just extensive lens flare sequences. - Really, I think the lens flare criticism has gotten a bit out of proportion. But at least it seems to keep people from going after JJA for his shaky camera work.- 1020 replies

Nice. Tom Hardy is a good start. I hope for a reboot. I wonder if we'll see Charlize Theron (with her shaved head) as an incarnation of Tank Girl.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
electric indigo replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I wouldn't have too high hopes there; with their re-release of the Imai kits they basically have that ground covered, and I doubt that the other kits have a comparable selling power to the VF-1. Even the Q-Rea kits were cancelled while Macross F was still a hot franchise. -
Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim'
electric indigo replied to fifbeat's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe robot films going blockbuster-mainstream means the designs don't have to please the niche mecha fan community, like the Bayformers they only need to work cinematically, i.e. as a general impression, to the general audience. We had this in Real Steel and in del Toro's own Hellboy: The Golden Army. The robots are plot devices, and not the stars of the show.- 1207 replies

I still wonder if we'll have a "Planet of the Apes" moment at the end. After all, this is a M. Night Shyamalan film.

Oblivion, in theaters April 19, 2013.
electric indigo replied to Lobizon's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Love the visual aesthetics. The general approach (visuals & setting) reminds me of some european comic stories from the days of the old Heavy Metal magazines. "Gangrène/Garbage" from Juan Giménez and Carlos Trillo comes to mind. If it turns out to be a "wealthy elite exploiting the rest of the planet" plot, it will be interesting to see it next to Blomkamp's upcoming "Elysium".- 90 replies

I think Pacific Rim would need more Super Robo than Real Robot voltage.

The old Imai kits have totally spoiled me -
Pics of the raw Kotobukiya Rex. Looks great already.

I like the pointier nose of the V1 better, but it may look not so good in Battroid form. Anyway, I'm glad that they avoided the angular front of the canopy that ruins the Hase kit for me. And yes, the head looks very big. -

Bandai so far stopped the model line after the Tornado Pack '25 and the 1/100 '29, while the DX toys got the large '29, the 171-ex and now the regular '171, so it's clear where the money goes. -
Thanks for the photos, Cain. I hope to give my Kotobukiya Rex a similar appearance, only a little lighter on monetary and display space resources.

Bandai's Macross F kits, while being a nightmare to build for the old school modeling crowd, were easily on par with their finest Gundam offerings. -
Who cares when we get this epic cover illustration:

GU, thank you for the comments, and you are right, there is a very light shading on the kit to distinguish it from a toy. I think now I need Koto's Jehuty, too. The kits are so brilliant. I hope they continue the series.

I finished the beast. FYI, this Orbital Frame is the Vic Viper. "Anubis" on the stand refers to the title of the second ZOE game. More photos here
