Macross 25th Anniversary and upcoming new TV series thread
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yeah, I'm really hungry for some confirmed facts about the series too. I'm really hoping the 25th Anniversary concert sheds some light on what's going on with Macross 25. We don't need much; just some basic information would be very encouraging. -
Ahh, my thanks Hayabusa. That's like the old Gumby toys, just a little more refined and sadly just as flawed. Those are the designs I hate the most. The thing breaks with repeated usage in the short term and eventually breaks with minimal use over the long term.

Exactly They do make good shock troops in a game where you have an abundance of resources to waste, sending them in to absorb the initial attack before your real forces come into the fight. Sort of like a poor-man's Ultralisk.

Hiriyu Making trouble, huh? Well right back at ya! I'm not going to tell you if it's "D" or "J". You're just gonna have to go crazy waiting Hehehe, just kidding. The picture I made is actually a VF-1J, but the cockpit and center dorsal fuselage have been replaced with VF-1D line art. I did the same for the GERWALK and Battroid mode yesterday. I'll probably make both a D and a J and just put them in the same profile. Though officially, I'm fairly certain the Valkyrie is supposed to be a VF-1D. I'm at work right now so I can't show you what I've done so far, but I should probably wait for the next update to show more. As far as I know, the official model of the Virgin Road is a VF-1D. Though the craft isn't a true VF-1D since more has been altered than just the paint job (the four "ports" on the dorsal fuselage/chest have been removed). At any rate, here's the official model: Linkage

How exactly did they do it, since I've never had the pleasure of seeing the Prefect Grade Wing Zero Custom.

I love these guys. They are such Macross fans, all the way back to the first game. That is one sexy looking mecha. I'm so glad the creators haven't abandoned robots for the Terrans. I just hope the Viking is more useful than the Goliath.

The All Things Video Games Thread!
Mr March replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That's exactly my point. The relative popularity of the fan following for something like the AVP title on the Jaguar can't even compare to that of the Soul Edge/Blade/Calibur series on the Dreamcast. There's also the fact that for it's first year, the Dreamcast was a major success with large sales and solid games in both North America and Japan (plus the Dreamcast maintained success in Japan where games and consoles were still sold up to just this year). If they did go after the Dreamcast, it would make them look even more blatantly stupid than what your post has already done to them -
Ah, now I understand. Well, 99% of everything on the Macross Mecha Manual right now is directly from the anime television series or movies. So each mecha will remain placed within the category corresponding to their first animated appearance. For those few mecha that were never animated (like the SDF-2 for example) they will be placed in the category most suitable to their time period in the chronology.

Oh yeah, I forgot those! A nice clean picture...

You're a brave man Scream Man. With the amount of resistance to the removable legs, I wasn't even toying (punny!) with the idea of mentioning the composite wings in this thread
-
Yeah, I'll have to correct the ARMD Class Carrier (Film Version) entry on the M3 to reflect the correct 450 meters and change the fighter craft complement to 262 VF-1 and 66 GF-3000E Ghost fighters.

The Dreamcast was likely excluded from the top ten list because of the success of the Soul Edge/Blade/Calibur series and the fact the Dreamcast version of Soul Calibur was even better than the already much lauded arcade version. Some of those peripherals were just so tragic you have to wonder what the hell these companies were thinking. They probably got the wool pulled over their eyes by some guy who promised it could be done...for a very impressive price. Then the guy delivers something that doesn't even work and the console company has no choice but to release it to recoup some of their lost investment. -
James Cameron's "Battle Angel" Movie

That would explain it. I figured this was the case. Thanks DT -
James Cameron's "Battle Angel" Movie
Mr March replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I thought Battle Angel was scheduled for 2009, yet this trailer says October 2008. That's about a year too early. Something's a bit off. -
No, haven't read it. I really liked all the technical conversations the fans came up with for Star Wars but I generally tried to stay far away from the "Versus" debates. The Star Wars Technical Commentaries by Curtis Saxton is a lot of fun to read, if you're into that kinda of stuff.

Oh, so you're saying the booms and fins are actually more than 30 meters extra length in total? It could be I suppose. My theory was just a guess anyway. There might not be a straight answer in the book either way.

GASP! Sacrilege! Burn the heretic! All must bow to the Gold Book or suffer the wrath of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! I'd be happy to help. Here's the page (and a big one at that; 1.08 MB): ARMD DYRL Version from the Gold Book Page 294

I wouldn't go so far as to call Zahn a great writer, but I did find his take on post-ROTJ Star Wars rather enjoyable. Especially parts of the books that introduced form and title to things I always wanted to know about the Star Wars universe, like the name Coruscant. But after Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy and Veitch/Kennedy's Dark Empire comic books, I was pretty much tired with the EU and the rather recycled silliness of the stories despite their entertainment value. Which is ironic, since these two series birthed the early 1990's Star Wars renaissance that continues to soak up so much money some 16 years later. It's a hilarious dichotomy, but I always felt Episode One made a lot of the EU look good by comparison whereas Episode Three was better than any EU ever made. Kinda sad actually

Yeah, I always wanted to know about that as well. There's other statistics listed in my Gold Book that are different from the ARMD stats shown in Macross Perfect Memory. For example, the Gold Book lists 262 VF-1 Valkyries and 66 QF-3000E fighters; quite a different complement from the TV series. I have guessed the difference in length for the "ARMD DYRL" was due to those forward "booms" and the rearward "tail fins" adding an extra 30 meters to the length. This would be assuming that the main hull of the ARMD DYRL is the exact same length as the main hull of the ARMD TV Series, minus those booms and fins.

Only $75 dollars? Yeah, I'll pass, but thanks for the link anyway. That's way too expensive for the few pictures I can actually use from that book. I'm not sure I understand your second question. When you say "Valkyries in different shows" are you referring to VF-1 Valkyries like the "Dark Bird" and "Command Colors"? Or are you talking about certain pieces of line art that I had to modify myself in order to create a picture for that particular variant (like the VF-1A Film Versions without FAST Packs)? I'm having trouble deciphering this one.
-
I just made up a VF-1J Virgin Road fighter picture in about 10 minutes Why this custom seemed so daunting at the time, I'll never know. I must have REALLY been sick of the VF-1 at the time Whatdya think?

There is both a Macross Flashback 2012 art book and a Macross The Movie: DYRL? art book. I own the Macross The Movie: DYRL? book, but I'm either trying to obtain scans from or own a complete copy of the Flashback 2012 book. Macross Flashback 2012 art book Macross The Movie: DYRL? art book (aka "The Gold Book")

Just blame EXO. Even if it's not his fault - which is almost impossible - he might as well be blamed

Hey, no problem. Yeah, I'm missing the books too (I've been borrowing). But I think I just got a hold of both. I'm glad you like the profiles I made for them. I think they both turned out well. That's a fine geek tradition and no better subject than Macross as an excuse, I say Here's some answers for ya: 1) Yeah, I've been dreading this one No, the Virgin Road Valkyrie isn't there. I debated whether or not I'd include it a long time ago and decided against it. At the time, I still had so many more profiles yet to do and to be honest, I was sick to death of coloring the VF-1 after all those variants. To be honest, I'm not even sure if the Virgin Road is supposed to be a "VF-1J" or a "VF-1D". I suppose it can't hurt to revisit the idea. It sure would make a nice addition 2) Easy; I'm often doing both at the same time. Multi-tasking my good man!
