That looks fantastic! I agree with kensei that this baby looks solid. I personally don't mind the smaller legs, especially since we've all come to expect this is the only way the YF-21 can be done as a transformable. I love the proportions for the most part. This YF-21 does seem a big large in the upper body, but no more so than the large torso proportions on the 1/48 scale VF-1. So far, this sculpt is looking great.

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
But that's just the thing Aegis. We are not all excited. Most of this thread is just a bunch of us Macross fans speculating what is most likely to become of this film. Perhaps a "3 mode" transformable will not even appear. It may be two mode only. Besides, it's not like the three mode transformation is some sort of copyright concept. Several animes have used that aside from Macross. I agree that this is lousy news for Macross, but then again, a live action Robotech film doesn't have much to do with Macross. This is just part of being a Macross fan. We know we'll see more lame Robotech productions trying hard to ride off the success of the first Macross Saga from waaaayyy back in 1985. But really, how is that any different than any other overblown, worthless franchise that finds extended long life among the consumers in this...our age of celebrated mediocrity? -
Ah thanks. I've sent an e-mail. I'll post how it turns out here

All the other Revoltech figures, from Transformers, to Evangelions, to Patlabors are listed as 19.0-19.2 cm in height. There's no reason to assume the VF-1J and VF-1S Valkyries wouldn't be the same scale. At that size, they'd be about as big as a tall glass or roughly from the top of your index finger to just below your wrist. A little over half as tall as the VF-1 1/48 scale from Yamato.

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That all depends upon what was negotiated with WB studios. But you're right that once the deal has been signed, HG would have virtually no say in how the film actually gets made. Still, it's their spawn as the rights holder, so I trust their brown thumb to spoil any potential bud -

I've been intentionally ignoring you, that's why you got missed Just kidding. My apologies Mercurial. This thread has grown so big so fast it hard to keep proper track. I wouldn't be so worried. As others have said, if it succeeds, it's going to have virtually nothing in common with the original outside of theme and concept, so we win regardless. If it fails, it'll be utterly forgotten just like their latest animation. Besides, I have faith in HG's ability to create totally worthless, forgettable fluff with everything they do post-Macross Saga. I will admit this Robotech film damages the chances of a live action Macross in Hollywood, but it's no use me crying over spilled milk at this point. -

This is what Azrael has been saying and he's right. The resemblance this Robotech movie will actually have to Macross is negligible. Going one step further, the resemblance of this film to the 85' Robotech edit is going to be fairly tenuous as well. I can envision all kinds of changes/adjustments/interference/meddling, just like the Transformers film. The film adaptation will likely deal strictly in theme and concept, like the vast majority of Hollywood live action versions. Everything else will be run through the "modern relevance" washing machine -

These are some valid concerns and I do understand where you're coming from. I know myself well and I'm a pretty jaded skeptic when it comes to film. Still, I'd rather take the chance myself. Besides, the odds are exactly what makes Macross Plus such a good bet. Some silly mainstream Hollywood summer turd is what we expect will become of something like Robotech. The rarity of Macross and it's relatively smaller North America popularity is exactly what would attract more genuine interest...if none at all. Sad as it is, that's the current state of things. I look at it this way; they can't do any worse with a live action Macross than what the Macross franchise has already done to itself -

A Macross Plus project would be best served if done a few years from now, after all this silly garbage of a perceived transforming robot sensation has left the minds of the studios. Five years minimum. If you could attract the right talent and genuine interest to make a quality film rather than serving as blood stock for the vampire that is Hollywood production, it would be brilliant. -

THat's because you're looking at it from the persepctive that only studio bastardized versions of movies are the ones that get made. Take any example from the first The Matrix film to the Lord of the Rings and you'll see how great films are made outside the typical studio fare and interference but utilize that very system to distribute and finance. How is this accomplished? Numerous reasons, but it begins with a desire to take the property seriously. I see no reason why Macross, given similar circumstances, wouldn't be taken seriously by a director/producer with a strong vision beyodn the box office fodder which this Robotech adaptation is likely to become. As for Macross Plus, Top Gun is ancient history. Most of the movie fans who would ultimately go see a Macross Plus live action adaptation couldn't care less about some cheesy Tom Cruise flick from the 80's, just as Superman Returns banked on an entirely new generation whose only connection to the original Donner film was their knowledge of some guy in a wheel chair named Chris (all due respect to the memory of Mr. Reeve). Macross Plus is also in the enviable position of being both removed from the larger story and franchise as well as being much more western in style and theme already. Could it become another G-Saviour or Wing Commander? Of course, but it could also become something far greater in the right hands. -

Why did I half expect to see Gerard Butler's yelling Spartan on top of Hikaru's body? See what the internet is doing to me with it's memes! -

Hmm, maybe. But Macross is much more likely to attract filmmakers with more serious intentions than Robotech ever would. As for the ancillary benefits in Japan for a successful Robotech film, I have my doubts almost as much as it's success here. But I suppose anything is possible. -

Ooops, sorry about missing your post Mercurial. I responded to ChrisG on this point, even though you posted first. Damn, this thread is moving fast! -

Hahaha, this is so true. I think most of us have pretty much accepted our lot as a niche fandom and we've actually flourished because of it. And like ChrisG has written, the Macross franchise continues to find success and we continue to enjoy all kinds of wonderful Macross products in spite of all the ills inflicted upon us by HG and Robotech. We are in a unique position to just enjoy this upcoming film for what it is. However, I seriously doubt any enjoyment will be had, aside from fan serivce via big budget transforming mecha -
LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well quite honestly, Macross Plus is the Macross I had in mind if a live action show were ever to be made of the Macross franchise from a major Hollywood studio. It already has many appealing western themes and is far different from all the other Macross productions in both setting and scope. Even with a successful Robotech film, Macross Plus would be the IDEAL candidate for a live action Macross adaptation. Regardless, you are correct that Robotech will once again screw Macross. Whether the live action Robotech film is good or bad, the realization of this live action film is the death knell for any potential Super Dimension Fortress Macross live action film adaptation. It'll be written off as too similar in either scenario, as you say. -
Good points all around. Though really, I do consider my Yamato's more action figure than model. Still, it would be nice if they got the scale correct for their Yamato entry. It's a 1/48, not a 1/60

Well spoken. A vivid and tragically sickening lesson in the way our real world works. Weep for the future -

This is true, but there is a negative side to it for Macross fans. Should the Robotech movie be gawd awful, there will NEVER be any live action Macross adaptation. Every studio will instantly point to the money losing venture that was the Robotech film and it'll be buried for all time -

Clones of the "The OC" cast will happily fill every lowest common denominator re-written role in this film -
The poor taste in the list is part of the reason I posted it. If any of these guys had a clue the superior quality of most japanese imports, the majority of these picks would never have made the cut. Inferior sculpts, inferior articulation, you name it. Still, I guess we can be thankful that a Yamato and a Revoltech actually make an appearance, though it is tragic that they chose two shots that barely show off any of the amazing articulation possible for these two toys.

Which is why a transforming SDF-1 Macross is likely to be the first thing axed for the movie. I have my doubts the script will even get the characters off-world. I can just see Space War I (another name ripe for "modification") taking place entirely on Earth. I can tell you one thing that will be changed without doubt: there's no way Britai's Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Fleet Command Battleship ever makes it to the screen. No Hollywood studio is going to make a film with a giant phallus as the enemy space craft. Puritans in the US will see to it that visual never makes it to the big screen. -

If I were a Robotech fan I'd be very, VERY worried that this film is going to be treated like junk by a Hollywood production company. The Robotech/Macross property is ripe for a dose of hardcore cheese and an Itano Circus of plot/character/setting "adjustments." If the Zentradi actually remain giant-sized in the final script, if music remains part of the central plot and if the Valkyries aren't redesigned to look like utter trash, it'll be a bloody miracle. -
I need the subtitles. I won't buy anything without.

The Macross Compendium is really an indispensable reference for all things Macross. It's the definitive english website for the Macross franchise. It can be a little user unfriendly to navigate, but the content is second to none. Odds are good that if you have a question about something within Macross, the answer will be on the Macross Compendium. Thanks for complimenting my site. I'm glad you like it. Make sure to visit often and keep your eyes open for future updates. I also post updates in a designated thread, so if you're visiting MW, you'll notice it pop up from time to time

I don't think the individual letters stand for anything. Maybe it's just an alphanumeric designation. Anyway, welcome to Macross World vermillion01. Check out my website too (see signature).
