  1. I agree. That whole thing was nothing more than internet gossip. People just like the drama, real or invented. Back to Macross Frontier, I can see clearly now the underside cannons in fighter mode. They sit just to the outer side of the engine intakes, just under the edge of the dorsal forward fuselage. And of course, they become "hip guns" in Battroid mode. So now I'm wondering, are the protrusions on the forward wing roots guns as well? I think they are possibly something else. I mentioned they prior that they may be equipment connection points for the Super Parts. Maybe they may also act as navigation lights?
  2. Nicely done, Zinjauteur
  3. Oh, so pretty is this new YF-21. Wow. I knew this was going to turn out great. Fantastic!
  4. I think it makes the most sense. It's obviously the method Kawamori used to account for the weight and internal space. I'm not sure the Dynamite 7 opening is all that accurate. It's meant (in-universe fiction) just to be part of a visual montage for a live concert and not an actual accurate schematic. Plus I think if you look close enough, the engines of the Fire Valkyrie in that concert animation are actually larger than the nacelles that are supposed to house them THanks for the new scans Graham! Oh, the purty details! I love that new head design
  5. Funny you should ask. Just finished the series last week and wrapped up all the movies/ovas/leftovers this week. My thoughts and feelings on how the series wrapped up? In a word: awful. But there sure is some cool mecha. Any more than that will have to wait until later
  6. I guess this is what I get for not being specific I've got the pic you added LSB. My point was these "new" VF-25 pictures seem much larger on the page, sharper and brighter than the older ones currently being passed around. Maybe one could tell by my website that I'm obsessed with high resolution, crisp and clear images of mecha
  7. I've actually never understood the "no leg room" concern. After the VF-1, the Valkyries were all built much larger and all featured bigger nacelles/legs. Since the VF-5000 onward, the Valkyries also all became a helluva lot lighter, most weighing around 8 tons compared to the VF-1's 13.25 ton weight. You can't build a significantly larger yet far lighter variable fighter by using the same proportionally sized engines that weigh just as much. They have to be smaller and lighter, especially since the engines are almost always the heaviest part of the aircraft. I've heard fans complain the VF-17 has too much internal leg space, too. Have we ever seen a VF-17 beside a VF-1? I bet VF-17 could fit both VF-1 engines inside just one leg and still have room for a gun pod Even taking into account the line art, I'm willing to bet the VF-17 still enjoys a healthy 1.5 size ratio in the nacelle over the VF-1 (depth is a much more important dimension on the VF-17 legs as well). I should make a few size comparison pictures for fun Ack! Sorry Richar
  8. Well, they weren't transformables before you purchased them, so they aren't going to transform afterwards either. In all seriousness, I can understand if people demand variable toys. But really, this Revoltechs function brilliantly for their intended use; highly posable action figures. Nothing more, nothing less, but you have to be sure you don't have a problem with the nothing more part before you buy them
  9. Must have those VF-25 pictures in high res Oh yeah, the new YF-21 looks great too. What was the name of this thread again?
  10. Great news. And welcome to Macross World brichar! "Ah, Tyrone. You stupid, fat bastard" "Is there another kind?" Damn, I'm just quick with the movie quotes today
  11. I'm sure the VF-25 has internal missiles. I think the lower leg/engines of the VF-25 appear to have bays on the outerside like most of the Mac+/Mac7 mecha. Though I cringe at the thought of comments from the "no leg room" crowd, especially with the thinner designs since Mac0
  12. I think it's much too early to say what that space-time anomally entry in the chronology actually means. We just don't have enough information right now. It could be an in-universe time phenomenon or it could be something as simple as a reference to a space fold. Or it could even be revisionist history to free the future Macross franchise from some legal problems. We just don't know. So I say, don't get worried or confused about it. Just file it under "unresolved" for now.
  13. I'd only accept donations for my website as long as there wasn't a forum. Or at least if there was a huge bureaucracy between me and the people donating so I didn't have to hear about the complaints Plus there is the not so small problem of copyright and having money exchanging hands over a copyright not owned.
  14. I think it's safe to say this isn't an AnimeFriend-style error
  15. Yahoo! My website wins some more points Glad I could help!
  16. Damnit, the last thing we need is a quality actor like Bale giving this sequel credibility DAMN YOU, BALE! DAMN YOU TO HELL!
  17. Very nice custom! It's purty
  18. Aha! I KNEW those suspicious-looking people were following me on the way to work today!
  19. Very Macross-y title graphic. Love the engrish
  20. sketchley I'll take a look. Thanks. David Hingtgen Given the facts, that theory makes sense. I think the fact that the VF-5000 nose looks more like the YF-22 than any random fighter jet is pretty much my opinion, despite the obvious deviations already mentioned. As for the apparent differences between the YF-22 nose and the VF-5000, I'd say its both coincidence and Kawamori's own style. The tapered nose was something he explored in many of the 90's era Macross designs and can be seen not just on the VF-5000, but also the YF-19 and the YF-21. sumdumgai A cunning, international conspiracy! The US secretly conducts espionage to pry the greatest aeronautical designs from anime artists!
  21. I remember my friend, when he was a new parent, telling me what his doctor explained about infants injuries to help soften his fears about the way his new born son would play. When we're young our soft tissues connecting our bones are much thicker. As we age, these tissues thin and slowly begin to settle our bones into a more functional state to allow mobility. But while these tissues are thick, this grants human babies increased flexibility and allows an infant to more safely exit the womb during birth. It also lessens the damage caused by everyday impacts or falls. Spend any time around a young child playing and you'll see their crazy durability in action. They can fall flat on their face and after a few minutes wailing, the pain goes away and it's like nothing happened. That kind of injury to an adult would likely lead to more serious injuries I'd hardly call this fire escape an everyday injury, but I think I understand why the baby made it unharmed but the parents did not.
  22. Oh yeah! I can see the joint for the revolver storage compartment on the Patlabors. Nice job on the shoulder lights as well. Much more noticeable in scarlet than the deep red of the first versions.
  23. biggooftoybox Just check my signature. The link is always there Thanks jc.
  24. sketchley The perpetual work-in-progress is standard MO for Kawamori when working on designs that need not be finalized at the time he creates them. Sometimes it makes it difficult to place the craft in a specific category for my website. Since the VF-5000 first appeared in the TIAS Macross Plus book, I've decided to place it in the Macross Plus section. Kinda works too since the color scheme is from the Macross Plus game as well. And of course, the VF-5000 is a 2020's era craft, so it makes sense to kinda stuff it in there since the Macross Plus history encompases everything from Flashback 2012 to 2040. eugimon Aww, thanks. Sometimes it's more outside shapes that catches the eye rather than the fine details that may not be relevant. Silhouettes sell a lot of the shape of any aircraft. David Hingtgen Well, I'm not going to get into a debate over minutiae between the YF-22 and the F-22. What I will do is try to explain where I'm coming from and hope that smooths understanding. Vic Mancini is correct that I was the one who used the terms nosecone/canopy/forward fuselage; he used the terms "forward half." Regardless, I was only trying to be more specific because "forward half" is rather vague and such a description would also include the forward ventral nacelle intakes which are nothing like the YF-22/F-22. Now, I'm sure there are tapers more pronounced on the F-22 and subtle variations in shape/size/proportion from the YF-22. In fact, I know there are from looking at several more pictures and reading detailed descriptions on fighter-planes and the wiki. As I indicated, I've not studied the VF-5000 in any lengthy detail until I started coloring. However, as I've stated these differences seem to have little bearing within the context of the YF-22 as an obvious influence on the VF-5000. The nosecone, forward fuselage and canopy seems very similar to the VF-500 to me. Is the VF-5000 more YF-22 than it is F-22 or vice versa? Did Kawamori have another bout where he actually extrapolated the minor changes in the YF-22 BEFORE the F-22 was even publically seen? Go ahead and compare! Point being, there is enough obvious similarity to the layman such as myself that allows me to recognize the strong design influence/lineage between the YF-22/F-22 and the VF-5000 despite a few tapers and changes of degree. Is this assumption correct with absolute certainty? I don't know. Perhaps there is other aircraft influence more relevant to the VF-5000. But to my mind, Vic Mancini's theory seems to make the most sense compared to all the examples presented thus far. Well, that's about as clear as I can get and I hope it helps explain any apparent disagreement that might have arisen from the original discussion. VF-7000 THUNDERHAWK Well thank you very much for the praise. The art work is all Kawamori and Miyatake, so make sure to praise them. I just do the coloring The VA-3 Invader (plus all variants) the VF-5000 (plus all variants, the VF-19 (plus all variants), the VF-22 (plus all variants) and the VF-14 will all appear in the next update. The VF-3000 and VF-9 Cutlass probably won't make it in, but I'll have to see. I bounce around a lot when building profiles, so whatever strikes me at the moment may mean they maybe included. Keep visiting and find out!
  25. There's no date on the first picture of the VF-5000B from the book This Is Animation Special Macross Plus. Publishing date of the book is 1995. As for comparing the YF-22 and F-22, there is a difference, but I sure wouldn't call it entirely different within the context of this discussion of influences. Regardless, I think YF-22 is the safe bet for an influence on the nose, canopy and forward fuselage of the VF-5000.
