Macross 25th Anniversary and upcoming new TV series thread
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Welcome to Macross World dara made. Thank you so much for visiting my website and I'm glad you like it. It wouldn't be much of a website without the fans! Zinjubba the MacFan I think the armored GERWALK was a long time in coming as well, as I mention a few pages back. Now seeing a fully transformable armored Valkyrie, I think Kawamori was playing with the idea for quite a few years. charger69 You're a very evil man -
Static head cannon. I don't get it. Why would Kaiyodo create the first two with movable wings and head cannons only to produce a VF-1A with a static head cannon? It doesn't make sense. Is it somehow far harder to make the VF-1A head cannon rotate thatn it was for the VF-1J and VF-1S? This is disappointing. I'll pass on this one. Nonetheless, thanks for the help Graham.

l_e_m Hmm, not sure how I'm supposed to ignore the fuselage when it's the forward half and a good portion of the VF-5000 wing surface. Perhaps the actual wing itself looks somewhat similar, but overall I'm not seeing much in common with the X-32. eugimon I can see the main wing resemblance. The stabilizers are a stretch, but I do understand that you're talking about the silhouette of the nacelle/stabilizer combo roughly looking like the entire forward stabilizer edge of the Mig. I think it's important to recognize a few possibilities. No doubt Kawamori takes bits and pieces from various aircraft to create something new. Then he uses his own designs or may experiment. Based on his concept artwork, it's clear he plays a lot with design and is all over the place. It's very cool. badboy00z Hmm, not sure about this one. I will agree that the ventral fuselage of the F-22 reminds me a lot of the YF-21. It basically is a large storage bay, so if the F-22 had legs, it could certainly store them inside there

I sincerly hope the supposed 26 episodes of Macross Frontier leaves me begging on my knees for more. Just like SDF Macross, DYRL, and Macross Plus -
Not to sound totally self involved, but now that we have members here that actually have the VF-1A in their hands, can they confirm whether or not the head cannon is static or movable?

Seems to me like it must be. The two designs are just far too close to be otherwise. But in point of fact, we can't know for sure until we see some literature on the subject. Actually, the UNG has already sent several fleets toward the galactic core. The Megaroad-01 was one, as was the Macross 7 fleet and the Macross 5 fleet. It seems to be a popular destination, likely because the core of the Milky Way Galaxy contains far more stars than other parts of the galaxy. Thus, it would have more planetary systems and thus more likely to find habitable planets -

I think the attention given to electrical discharges and the fuselage forks is just fans being fans. It's really just scrutinizing something that was never meant to be scrutinized. Personally, I'm loving almost everything I've seen of Macross Frontier. I am trying to be as objective of the information released so far, but I can't lie; I'm excited about this series. I love the VF-25 and the new transformation. As far as the new look and animation techniques, this is just the way things are now in anime. The new motif for mechanical design in giant robot anime is "thin" and it has been ever since Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's likely to stay that way too until the next major design motif arrives, at which time everyone will follow suit yet again. Just like Gundam spawned real robot designs, just like Macross spawned transforming robot designs, just like Evangelion spawned emaciated robot designs. That's just the way art is, it's only commercialism that makes it as bad as it is through rampant replication of the same style to sell production that are popular at the time. I sure never expected to see a fully transformable armored Valkyrie. Though maybe we should have seen it coming. Thinking back over Kawamori's designs, he has never abandoned the armored variant. He keeps creating them. And his attempts at the armored GERWALK in hindsight now speak to me as if he probably wanted to create a fully transforming armored Valkyrie for quite some time. Perhaps the unique transformation system of the VF-25 plays some part in that. Maybe Kawamori designed it that way specifically so he could create a transforming armor set. -
Welcome to Macross World protogarland. It's great too see so many new (and lurking) faces I know you'll love the 1/48 Yammies. They are the best VF-1 Valkyries ever. I own a VF-1J and VF-1S. I couldn't be happier with them.

Because my dear wolfx, we're starved Macross fans waiting for a new show but have but a single trailer to over-analyze, nitpick and dissect until the show is released. Just like we do with every movie trailer that comes out "Scrutiny" is the new "passing interest" -

I agree with Beltane70. The VF-25 does not fly apart. I've had to correct people on other message boards about this as well, it seems for some reason people are mentally blocking the "fuselage forks" and are mesmerized by the embellishing CG effects. In fact, the VF-1 is the only Kawamori design to my knowledge that cheats with the separation of the legs. Every other design stays together during transformation. Besides, Macross already had it's "Super Robot" phase in Macross 7 and it's since bounced firmly back into real robot with Macross Zero. I don't think there's anything to fear with Macross Frontier on that issue. -

Must be the excitement getting in the way of rational thought. I know I'm having trouble curbing my enthusiasm I just went through the commercial again and noted more about that Super VF-25. The boosters sit right on the wing root to the fuselage, right where those forward protrusions we speculated might be guns. Perhaps those sections are just connection nodes for linking the Super Part controls into the VF-25. Anyway, thanks for the screen shot klam1020. -

Full transforming armor; that's certainly absolutely awesome! The more I see the VF-25 transformation, the more I love it. When the VF-25 transforms it flows gracefully from one form to the next rather than the traditional hard flip-and-fly conversions. I really like that. -

Um, awesome! The "Armored" VF-25 is hard to get a handle on. I think I see a lot of the standard VF-25 hull in that picture. There's armor only on a single side of the arm with little armor anywhere on the torso except the top portion and the hips appear bare as well. It almost looks like this could be a picture of a VF-25 Super rather than an armored variant. -
So, any news whether the 1A head cannon is movable or not?

Graham Ack! You're killing me Very nice scans. I'm saving them all and I'll try out a few. Vic Mancini I think Kawamori (via his interview quote on the Macross Compendium) did mean just the name, Vic. Like how the name for the "VF-1 Valkyrie" was inspired by the name "XB-70 Valkyrie", so is the designation "VF-5000" inspired by the designation "Mirage 2000." I haven't spent time studying the VF-5000 until now, so like I had written, there could be YF-22/YF-23 influences. Your picture comparison certainly shows the VF-5000 has a strong resemblance to the nose, canopy and forward fuselage of the F-22. But as I wrote, just going by overall design, the VF-5000 seems more linear and dart shaped to me than the square, diamond-like design of the F-22 Raptor. The whole fuselage of the VF-5000 is largely wing shaped in a linear triangle. I don't see many design similarities between the VF-5000 and the Mirage 2000 at all. The only noticeable trait the two share is a vaguely similar wedge shaped hull/main wing. I wonder if the Saab-35 Draken was some inspiration for Kawamori's VF-5000. The entire wing body, from the small centrally mounted forward intakes all the way to the trailing wing edge strongly resembles the Saab-35, IMO. eugimon Interesting. Maybe the forward sides of the Mig-35 fuselage look similar, but I'm not seeing much else. I think Vic has the forward third of the VF-5000 influence pegged well as the F-22, IMO.

That would have made obtaining color reference easier if I knew about it when I first started my site. I tried looking for a good free vid capture software, but never found any I'll have to try this one out. -
Strange seeing the birth of Macross World so long ago.

Looks like SCI-FI got their way, just not in the manner they were anticipating -
Very interesting development. I too am quite surprised by the interest. But at the same time, there is a HUGE amount of money flowing out of these forums into Yamato. It has to be the largest english gathering of Yamato MACROSS customers on the english speaking web. Hell, even a non-toy collector like myself has purchased four Valkyries from them and I've plans to get at least two more.

I've noticed increased traffic on the forums and there is a lot of new faces this past year. I can definitely see a big jump happening when the new series is released. Word about the series is really getting around fast.
-
WHOA! Okay, the SHE version IS the Macross Plus version! There's no mistaking it. I've got the color scheme all wrong. Well, I guess that finalizes it. Macross Plus/SHE version is THE standard hull colors that I'm gonna use for the VF-5000B. Wow, lots of weird colors in that second picture. I suppose this means I gotta do a VF-3000 profile now
-
Very bizarre. That thing looks terribly awkward to wear.

Sumdumgai, eugimon and Graham Thanks for the compliments fellas. I'm looking forward to the release of these profiles as well. yellowlightman I knew the game was unreleased here and the Macross Compendium entry states the release as unscheduled. But I didn't know how far along the game was developed before being canned. It's a damn shame the VF-5000 is limited to such a minor release in the special edition. Most Macross fans will never have an opportunity to enjoy it. Vic Mancini The Macross Compendium states the VF-5000 is inspired by the Dassault Mirage 2000. Could be some YF-22/YF-23 influences in the VF-5000 but I think I see more linear influences and a dart like shape in the Star Mirage. badboy00z and Sumdumgai again Here's a picture of the VF-5000 Transformation Details Mowe Hehehe, yes it turned out well. I'm eager to see the fighter modes once I get a chance to color them. sketchley No problem. Given the EXTREME rarity of that release, it's understandable. I share your opinion on the default color scheme. I think I'm going to pick the Macross Plus Video Game version for the default VF-5000B profile. The colors are at least official and are the closest thing we have to a likely canon scheme.

Okay, here's color pictures I've done for the SHE and M3 version that uses color reference pictures provided by Roy and Graham:

Wow, a white and red variant for M3. And I see Max/Milia VF-4s. It's hard to tell, but the line art for the VF-4 battroid looks a lot better than the sketches in the SK Design Works book. Too bad they didn't release hard-finish line art for the VF-4 battroid in blakc and white. Would be nice to have
