  1. You've got to work with the joints to get a pose and not fight with them. The VF-1J head joint can actually achieve some really good poses, but you've got to get familiar with how the angles work. The head joint can be rotated left-to-right in addition to the up-and-down articulation. Remember that the socket in the VF-1J head is at an angle, not in a straight vertical position. So when you turn the head, it won't be level unless you rotate the joint left-to-right as well. You can also raise or lower the head by pulling it off the joint itself just a little. This can help you acheive perfect head turns left and right while remaining level. Take a look at the picture in an earlier post on page 26 of this topic. It shows the VF-1J head turned to the right, but it's perfectly level. Here's a link: VF-1J head turned right while remaining level
  2. Screen shots would definitely be an asset. I'd appreciate any help.
  3. This isn't a playoff game. It's supposed to be a discussion, not a contest. My logic is sound and if your theories are faulty, others can't be blamed for stating the obvious contradictions. The supposedly intolerable M7 bashing days are long gone from these forums, so maybe it's time to stop treating every difference of opinion like you're in a pissing contest. A little courtesy for the members you're in "discussion" with would serve you better than tooth-and-nail attempts to win "arguments" or trying to patronize your "opponents."
  4. So now Macross 7 isn't really like everything else after all? Haven't seen this many circles since geometry class Nonetheless, this is all variation on the same old theme (or theory, as it were) and a failure to listen. But as I wrote, fortunately it's only some Macross 7 fans. Most seem to genuinely accept the criticisms, but are able to enjoy Macross 7 without character assassination of the critics. That respect is really all that can be asked to result from a difference of opinion. I will say this for Macross 7; in spite of poor product in general, the show does enjoy the honor of some good mecha design. The VF-17 is a lot of fun, the VF-11C Protect Armor was great, the VF-11D sans-sound tech is very nice, the VF-22 rocks and last but not least, some of the spaceship designs are very cool.
  5. AC Those seem simple enough to do. As you say, I'm not noticing any changes in the color layout, aside from the insignia, which sadly I wouldn't be able to include. Other than that, I don't see any reason why these variants couldn't be included. Since I'm just going off description for the other four colors, I'll make up some demos and post them for your opinion. mike Oh, the MAHQ will likely always have more Macross content than the M3. But I'm confident my site sells itself with the presentation of the content it does have
  6. "Welcome to Sparefish" plays during Isamu's introduction to the YF-19 on the tarmac at New Edwards Base. Isamu is lost in his passion for flight, doing dives and banks with his hand until the the YF-19 is lifted into the hangar proper. The song acts mostly as a character establishing tune for Isamu, setting him up as a daring and rugged cowboy-like figure using a recognizable foreign tune to that effect. As for the meaning of "Sparefish" itself, I'm lost on that one
  7. I've never played the game and I don't recall ever seeing any pictures of these Valkyries. I'd certainly like to see what the Valkyries look like from that game.
  8. HEY! That's "Mr" March of the Penguins to you, Zinjammin'. Hehehehe
  9. ack, double darn post
  10. I don't think any alleged similarity between Macross 7 and mecha anime in general (yeah, good luck with that one beyond genre) is the point at all. In fact, I can guarantee it Personally (and I'm not passing judgment) I think the issue has to do with the inability of some Macross 7 fans to accept a critical opinion and to accept Macross 7 not for what it is (especially to the Macross 7 fan himself), but for what it is not. Macross 7 never will be loved and it will never be the important milestone that was SDF Macross. Doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed, but that's just the way it is. Every time a member here on MW posts a critical opinion of Macross 7, invariably some Macross 7 fan posts one theory, rationalization or generalization after another in an attempt to dismiss that opinion. The "discussion," such as it is, generally declines from there. If these particular Macross 7 fans were honestly concerned why other Macross fans dislike Macross 7, they'd learn to accept rather than dismiss, IMO. Yeah, saw this one coming from 280,000 kilometers in orbit
  11. Fantastic. Sounds like a worthy purchase. I'm definitely ordering one next time I'm ready for a three batch.
  12. Uh oh If I were a more cynical person, I might expect an imminent flurry of theories, generalizations and rationalizations to suddenly populate this thread Why do you ask, if I may?
  13. Great stuff sqidd. You'll have to give us the straight dope on the Griffon once you've had a chance to look it over. I really hope you like Patlabor Movie 1.
  14. I want a VF-1S, but I'm going to wait until that new movie version Patlabor is released. Then I'll choose a third (likely the Griffon) to make an order of three.
  15. Currently on episode 42. Oh dear, this show is awful If I didn't have to research to build a proper Macross 7 section on the M3, I never would have watched past the first dozen episodes I originally endured years ago. There is nothing so far that would redeem the utter monotony of this show nor the absurd concept of the narrative. The series just gets so many things wrong and you can see each mistep or heavy-handed attempt to say something. The first two-thirds of the series is dominated by one pointless, vapid episode after another and when something finally happens the show sabotages any momentum with ANOTHER long...string...of...filler...episodes. This show could easily have been a 26-episode series or more appropriately a tight 12-episode OVA. One could say Macross 7 is frustrating to watch as a Macross fan but its so much worse that to say so little is a disservice; I could write an entire essay on why this show doesn't work from nearly any perspective; value to the fan versus non-fan, worth as simple pop entertainment, quality by critical analysis, musically, visually, conceptually, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum. But I think I'll stick to something more positive and just build mecha profiles
  16. Smiley424 Make sure to go through all the new content; it's worth it Yes, the VF-22S Sturmvogel II will be included. I've always planned to have that one in the Macross 7 section, more than I can say for the other mecha that made it there, hahaha Right now, I've got half a dozen new profiles ready to go and another half dozen well on the way. The following is a list of mecha that are certain to be in the next update: VAB-2D Fighter-Bomber VA-3M Invader VF-X Ravens VA-3C Invader VA-3C Invader Custom VF-1A Valkyrie VF-X Ravens VF-1S Super Valkyrie VF-X Ravens VF-11C Thunderbolt Space/Atmosphere Super VF-17D Nightmare VF-X Ravens VF-17D Nightmare Cyan VF-19A Excalibur VF-X Ravens VF-19F Excalibur VF-19S Excalibur VF-19S Excalibur Test Flight VF-19S Excalibur Super VF-5000B Star Mirage VF-5000G Star Mirage VF-5000G Star Mirage Custom VF-5000T-G Star Mirage VF-22S Sturmvogel II VF-22S Sturmvogel II VF-X Ravens Neo Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Class Fleet Command Battleship Bolognese Zentradi Class Stealth Frigate This second list includes mecha I want to be in the next update: VF-14 Vampire (Macross 7 Plus Version) VF-14 Vampire (Macross M3 Version) Grahams Armor Suit Rex Gang Motorcycles Queadluun-Quilqua Macross 5 Macross 13 QF-2001 Ghost Hollywood Class Amusement Ship Mark Twain Class Resort Ship Einstien Class Research Experimental Ship Three Star Factory Ship Sunny Flower Agricultural Ship West Point Class Macro-Training Base Ship Sumdumgai Glad I could help. It is a lot of fun exploring the mecha of Macross in this way. You gain such appreciation for the mecha and the effort that was put into designing each vehicle. I've mentioned above that I want to create a special dumping ground for all kinds of miscellaneous mecha stuff and I'm really convinced now that it would be an asset. I can place stuff like the VF-11D/VF-11C comparison pictures above in such a section.
  17. Don't like that mecha. Far too busy looking. It's like those over-the-top super robots or uber-gundams with all the crazy spires/fins/wings/protrusions. Way too baroque. Perhaps it might look better to me put into context. Personally, baroque only works for me when done in science fiction-fantasy anime. Specifically, when Japanese mechanical designers adopt western-style motifs to create mecha like the Guymelefs of Escaflowne or the Mortar Headds of Five Star Stories. The setting and a sense of majesty helps sell the baroque mecha designs and they mesh very well with the high fantasy-like fiction.
  18. charger69 I like that car. It's got good line and angles, so much so that I find the design has aged VERY well since 1995. You're right though, it does resemble the Lola T70 more than a little. I'm glad the update helped you find pictures of this vehicle. Zinjobular I agree! I've been thinking of a new section for the M3 where I'd dump all the miscellaneous fun stuff. Fan custom coloring, custom line art creations, wallpapers, et cetera. A VF-11D Custom outfitted with VF-11C Atmosphere/Space Super Parts would be ideal. I don't think it'd be all that hard. A worthy project to consider! Lonewolf I'll take your word for it In all seriousness, I am glad at least a few fans are enjoying the Macross 7 mecha. If nothing else, they are fun to look at just as a very brightly colored alternative to the rest of the franchise chrono Don't be shy reporting errors if you see them. If it improves the M3, that's all that matters Well, I'd be loathe to compare anything on my site to 4Chan, but perhaps it is kinda silly. But if it got a chuckle, that's my goal vermillion01 That sounds like a wonderful idea. I encourage you to go make that website and I'll host it on the M3 if you like Hehehe, seriously, I'm self-taught in HTML and only know just enough to be dangerous. That kind of thing is way out of my league. I can see the implications to a mecha site. It would be VERY sick, as they say these days Sumdumgai I've not seen any four-piece canopy transformation pictures for the VF-11D. However, the line art for the VF-11D is different from the VF-11C and the whole forward nose/cockpit has a redesigned shape. Bet you never noticed If you look closely, you can see the VF-11D forward fuselage is much larger; both wider, longer and reshaped compared to the VF-11C. The thickness of the VF-11D would be really noticeable sans Super Parts, but I don't know if that kind of line art exists either. It's important to remember the statistics and remember the artist. Kawamori is a perfectionist and detail-minded. I know it's easy to dismiss statistics because so many mecha shows abuse them. But... THIS...IS...MACROOOSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Hahaha. Seriously, the VF-11C is length 15.51 meters long while the VF-11D is 16.02 meters long. That difference is not only reflected in the official numbers, but it is also reflected in the actual design. The forward nose is longer, less sleek and wider. Here's several comparison pictures; you'll notice a difference right away (and I'll include a second batch showing significant differences): Lastly, the Battroid line art can be somewhat deceptive. It accentuates the VF-11D four-piece canopy cover (as do the colors and shading). Take a look at the canopy covers as seen from the battroid mode (with Super Parts) top view for a more accurate perspective.
  19. Wow, very nice! I like the background too
  20. That's not bad. I like the pose and the blurred background. The engine wake is good for a simple effect. Diffused lighting would definitely make for a better background match. Cool stuff!
  21. Sumdumgai Hehehe, I'd hoped you'd get a kick out of it. I liked writing in Kamjin, causing trouble as always DestroidDefender Awesome catch! I've made the corrections and uploaded a new page. Thanks so much DD. I really have to rely on a second pair of eyes for proofreading, so please feel free to report any other errors you see. Torii Good work! I've made corrections and completed an upload. Thanks again Torii. It's good to catch these errors.
  22. vermillion01 Total Rockstar, just like Zack Glad you enjoy the site. Sumdumgai Good to hear. I hope you liked the color fully armed VF-1A Fighter Ignacio Ocamica Very good to hear. I figured the color code system would work a lot better than without. I was just looking at the stats one day and I started lamenting all the repetition in profiles for the variants. It's necessary, but I needed something to help make things more readable (my mantra). Then it hit me: I'm good with coloring pictures, why not also color code? Eventually, I'll fix up the other entries throughout the site as well. mike Enjoy, enjoy! I've got some real kickass stuff coming next update. Prime You're slow! The M3 was asking me where you were chrono Hehehe, definitely a nice addition to the holiday Flaming Guantlet I was waiting for the response on the new Humor section. I think it's even better than the Messages, but that's just me. I was thinking of a character as host, but decided to just leave it as some anonymous gangsta Lonewolf There you are! I know you warned me that I'd never get a hold of you on MSN, but damn! Some of the Macross 7 stuff was hard to do...the sound force valkyries were REALLY hard to do. Ugh! The last thing I wanted to do was to be taking these things seriously. But, if it's on the M3, it has to be top quality. No room for slackers, hehehe. I figured if I'm going to go ahead with a complete M7 section, I had to do the sound crap sooner or later. So I bit the bullet and got it all out of the way first. And just my luck, the sound valkyries were all really hard to do with tons more coloring required than the average valkyrie. Now I hate Macross 7 even more...HAHAHAHA Actually, one thing that did surprise me was a new found affection for the VF-11D. I hate the sound stuff, but everything else about that Valkyrie rocks. It's more heavily armed than any other VF-11 except the Protect Armor, has more powerful engines, has a pin-point barrier and I really like the colors. But now that all the sound crap is out of the way, the next update is going to be filled with all sorts of death and destruction! The way mecha were meant to be
  23. SAL is a horrible shipping method if you're waiting. It's great if you order something that you can forget about and then enjoy the pleasant surprise when it arrives on your doorstep a month later. But when you're coming to Macross World every day where your fellow geeks are posting big pictures and going on about how great their newest toys are, it's absolutely not worth the savings. I went EMS with my Revoltech order and was glad I did
  24. October 29, 2007 MAJOR UPDATE I am pleased to once again release more updates for the Macross Mecha Manual. Today features 30 new profiles but the primary focus of this update is to properly revise and correct existing content. The website has been a learning experience and vehicle profiles have been refined as more were released. Looking back it's clear some of the first profiles suffer from low resolution scans, poor quality colored art, grammatical/spelling errors and a lack of organization. To correct these shortcomings, the four main VF-1 profiles (VF-1A, D, J and S) have been completely revised as well as most of the other VF-1 entries. I encourage all fans to take another look at these updated profiles. Some improvements may not be obvious, but at the very least visitors will appreciate the new content and organization. Along with the major revisions comes the new color code system, implemented in the VF-1 profiles and the Macross 7 section. The color code system is designed to draw the reader's attention to the technical details of vehicle variants that differ from the standard model. I'm hoping this improves reading and quick reference. The system is just a test at this point and I'm eager for feedback. I think it's a great new addition, but some may find legitimate fault. Please feel free to share your thoughts. This update has debuts-a-plenty with the new Books section, the Macross Game and Advanced Valkyrie section and the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. I'm also happy to add another hilarious feature to the Humor section titled "Pimp My Valkyrie." Last but not least, the holy grail of line art has been found! Totoro242 of the Macross World message boards has provided a high resolution scan of the elusive Megaroad-01 line art (which I have now colored). A big thanks to this generous Macross fan!
