  1. LOL The colors of the very first quick and dirty version I posted were all sampled from screen shots of the game (with the exception of the grey) It looks like I went too dark with the grey. I guess my my screen shots can be deceiving. I'm going to put the grey about half way between the light and the dark. SHould be just about right then. It's good to keep in mind that the colors won't be perfect because this is a simple line art interpretation in a limited 256 color gif. The 3D model is probably using several million colors.
  2. Oh no. I'm not sure what's wrong. The images uploaded and are correctly displaying for me. I'll see if I can figure it out.
  3. According to the VF-X2 game, the VF-19A Excalibur looks like a blue colored YF-19. I don't know if it's canon, but that's what it is without a doubt. Tenjin Hidetaka's Art Works of Macross book features the blue YF-19 from VF-X2 and it's also called the VF-19A. All the design alterations don't happen until the VF-19F as far as I can tell.
  4. Actually, for all the VF-19 gets wrong, there are a few design changes I think are actually improvements of the YF-19. I think the center dorsal section of the Fighter mode looks much better on the VF-19. Sadly, it does lead to those silly ornamental shoulders in Battroid mode, but the Fighter mode benefits from those smooth sections forward of the dorsal engine nacelles and the rear nose looks sleeker. I also have to say that while there's nothing wrong with the YF-19 head unit, I like VF-19S head unit just as much and I think the VF-19F head unit is better than both of them. Now, I would never deny my preference for muted colors on a mecha, but as far as unrealistic colors go on a military machine, I love the VF-19F colors. I'd take the Macross Plus colors any day, but if I had to go with the coloring book schemes of Macross 7, the VF-19F blue and silver looks great. It's not all bad
  5. Okay, I went after the grey with a vengeance and darkened it to the color of the screen shots I have. It looks much different than the Dynamite 7 colors and I think it's correct. I changed the primary color of the hull and shadows only ever so slightly with a little more red and a little more violet. Here's the two for comparison: ***EDIT: See Page 2, below this post***
  6. I remember reading that the whole point of the Battle Pods (specifically, the Reguld units) was to give the average foot soldier more firepower and protection. In reality, that's exactly what they do. You can't harm the Zentradi soldier inside unless you possess anti-mecha weaponry and they have a large number of guns compared to just the rifle of the infantry. The units were also really cheap so they could be built for every Zentradi soldier. The Regulds are basically a way to mechanize every infantry unit in the Zentradi military. But I agree they would be hard to pilot. The cramped quarters of the cockpit area would be terrible to operate. They have very little in the way of versatility and can't interact with their environment much. The Reguld is almost the only Zentradi mecha that can't operate in the atmosphere. Aside from a cheap method for mechanizing your entire army, the Regulds just aren't that useful for anything else.
  7. I use Adobe Photoshop CS (Version 8.0). It is so easy to manage with this program. You just open a PSD file and paste your line art in. Then create some layers and use the multiply feature for the line art layer. All your subsequent color layers can be placed in any order while the line art layer always remains on top. This lets you apply whatever color you want without touching the line art layer itself. Perfection
  8. Ack, my website is always just one update behind these questions If by stretched along the long axis, then yes. This is why the YF-19 appears to have such a long "neck" in comparison to all the later VF-19 models. The VF-19 forward fuselage seems to be about the same width as the YF-19 at it's widest point (depending upon your definition of where the fuselage ends and the wing begins), but extends further forward and backward than the prototype and the VF-19A. Also, the forward/upper sections of the engine/leg units (as well as the intakes themselves) appear to be truncated, giving the impression of slightly more forward fuselage/wing surface area just ahead of the forward ventral intakes. Correspondingly, the truncated engine/leg/intake is also why all the VF-19 Battroid modes appear to have short and fat legs. As you have no doubt guessed by this point, this is another thing I hate about the VF-19 design Here's some comparison pictures, just for you Zinjoy
  9. I don't think so. No indication is ever given that kind of technology exists in Macross. The Varauta, Sivil and others probably entered City 7 by force, like we've seen in all other Macross shows (SDFM, DYRL). I was under the impression the City 7 interior disturbances were due to small decompressions caused by minor hull breaches from the battles in the space around the ship.
  10. I think the colors are mostly right, but the grey is definitely "off" in my quick and dirty version posted in this thread. You're right that it's much darker. I didn't know about "Attacker Mode." That's an appropriate name, especially given the role of the VA-3 as a Strike/Attack craft. Thanks.
  11. I know the reasons behind the changes. I'm just saying they look awful. And the forward sweep doesn't make sense to me even given the space-conversion explanation. Why bother designing such tiny FS wings if there is almost no FS? Seems silly, but I guess Kawamori just didn't want to lose what very little of the original YF-19 wing was left.
  12. There are differences between the variants, moreso than just the head unit like many of the other Valkyries. I've got all the line art for the VA-3 Invader variants (at least all variants of which I'm aware). The VA-3M is the variant seen in VF-X2, with the underwater stuff. The VA-3C and VA-3C Custom are seen Macross Dynamite 7. And there is also the VA-3 from the Macross Plus TIAS book, which has a slightly different transformation system and the gun pod!
  13. Hmm, you may be right. I admit it's certainly a strange coloring. I'll take a second look at Dynamite 7 and see how it is animated. It really depends upon the look of the mecha in the shots. At least the fold booster is green like it should be. Regardless, I might have to include the cyan VF-17D anyway since - even if it is an inking error - technically it is canon, mistakes and all. Let's just be thankful that line art doesn't exist for the VF-1A with the ridiculously stupid two dozen missiles mounted on the vertical stabilizers (curses upon AnimeFriend) *ponders creating custom line art for an AnimeFriend "variant" just to piss everyone off* just kidding
  14. Yeah, I just noticed that. It's a green VF-17D. That's odd. The green looks very blue and deep, like a cyan. That'll make for a VERY interesting VF-17D variant. This green variant will be easy to do, since I've already got the VF-17D colored. I've already got the VF-5000 colored. Just finished the Battroid mode two days ago and I'm confident I've correctly interpreted the Dynamite 7 color scheme.
  15. Okay, these are not bad; a little dark, but I can still make out most of the details. It gives me some idea of how the colors work. This Dynamite 7 version seems to be much darker and more purple as opposed to the maroon color of the VF-X2 Ravens version. It also has more grey highlights, like around the bicep/forearm areas and the around the thigh/engine intakes. And of course, this is the VA-3C variant I see (doesn't look as good as the VA-3M, IMO). Well, I'll attempt to create a color scheme from these pictures. Even if I don't get the colors right, I'll replicate the scheme itself. Then once I view Dynamite 7 again I can always change the shades of the colors if I find they are off. Thank you for the pictures AC.
  16. It's probably no surprise how long I lasted with The X-Files, given how much I complain about television After three seasons, I was done. But it still was great for what it was. I liked the movie too. Never seen anything past that and from the sounds of things, I didn't want to
  17. Okay, this is what I came up with for the VF-X2 version of the VA-3 Invader: ***EDIT: See Page 2*** Now, assuming this is correct for the game version, what is different for the Macross Dynamite 7 version?
  18. There is no other science fiction right now. Science fiction does not exist for me at this moment. There is only Battlestar Galactica (2004). Macross, Star Wars, Firefly/Serenity, and X-Files are my favorites
  19. Oh, I thank the gods for Macross Plus. The VF-11's only moment to shine was found in that OVA series. Without Isamu going all Dirty Harry, the VF-11 would go down as bar none the worst mass produced Valkyrie in the whole Macross franchise. Still, IMO the VF-11 does reign as the most abused Valkyrie design in Macross and it takes the Protect Armor system (along with the death of a supporting character) to give the mecha even the smallest shred of credibility in Macross 7. But true to form, that VF-11 blows up too! I suspect the VF-11 is the most destroyed Valkyrie ever animated
  20. If Yamato didn't make Macross transforming products, I likely wouldn't have any Valkyrie toy. So it'd be just like before Yamato came along when I had nothing. I definitely would have collected the Revoltechs though; I wanted one the first time I saw it and now I own the VF-1J Super. Fantastic little figure. It's possible I may have purchased a Hasegawa model for the fighter mode, but very doubtful I would have painted it. I've assembled and painted models before and they all look like garbage.
  21. I'm looking for some color reference for the VA-3 Invader from Macross Dynamite 7. Anyone have any screen caps or screen shots from the anime? I've got some stuff from VF-X2, but the color scheme looks different than the Dynamite 7 vehicle.
  22. I'm just getting into buying the DVDs, but it looks like Season 1 is complete while Season 2 is still split in the Canadian release as well. I have seen many places offering both Season 2 sets bundled in a complete package that is nearly the same price as Season 1, but they are still separate. The only difference I believe is that the Canadian release of the second season was delayed until the second season finished airing in Canada (April 2006).
  23. I feel almost exactly the same way about the YF-19/VF-19 Excalibur. Why even bother with forward swept wings if there is so little forward sweep? Might as well just have the normal swept back wing. The ornamental changes are all terrible as well, especially the "spire" shoulders and those awful ankles in battroid mode. But much like you, I'd put up with all that over a head unit with a mouth any day. It's a shame the YF-19/VF-19 Excalibur design didn't convert well from prototype to mass-production the same way the YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II did. Among all the later VF-19 variants, the VF-19A from the Macross VF-X2 video game is my favorite (since it's almost a direct copy of the YF-19, but with a nice blue hull). Of the VF-19 variants beyond the A, I like the VF-19F in the blue/silver colors the best. Granted, the VF-19F has all the failings of the later VF-19 models, but the head unit is pure old school sexiness and it has the best looking mecha colors in all of Macross 7, IMO (with the possible exception of the VF-17 and Gamlin's VF-22).
  24. You're preaching to the choir here, my friend. We're anime fans. Availability has been our burden to bear all our lives as fans (especially as Macross fans)
  25. Wow. I've seen none of them. I hope I can catch them all on DVD. The website you've linked looks interesting, but that video isn't working for me. Says it's not available from my location (Toronto, Canada). Guess I miss out on this too. ANyway, thanks for the link and the info.
