Its just crazy, There was a Dengeki Hobby or HJ 10 years ago or something that had an article with pics of Macross molds from Bandai, including a pic of the 1/200 Monster if I recall I just can't remember where the heck I saw it I think it was dengeki. I remember an article showing it and I really only bought the magazines with appendix items as add ons, (lots of cool add on parts for gundam and such like the GM wagtail parts) but I may be wrong about it and just got excited for Macross news. I believe it came out with the first rerelease of the Monster since they had to do some extra work with those particular molds and the article talked about the difficulties with that particular mold. If I remember the Monster didn’t come out with the first set of Macross rerelease kits due to those problems and came out the next big anniversary set Quote

Shawn Posted yesterday at 04:50 PM Author Posted yesterday at 04:50 PM The Spartan was always an oddball choice in the Macross Universe. You get all these jet-jockeys and Phalanx and Defenders shooting and lobbing missiles from afar, but then this conversation surely happened in some back office of OTM Destroid research.... 'You know what I want to do Joe? I want to PUNCH a Regult, Right in the freaking mouth. Maybe even bash it's head in with a club" "Geez Jerry, maybe you should take some time off, go on vacation, clear your head a little. I hear Ataria Island is taking tourists again" Jerry walks away, shaking his head, "right in the freaking mouth" heard just under his breath.... Quote

I'm thinking it was designed with close quarters combat in mind, for dense urban environments. I don't know if we ever really see it used that way, but it makes sense. Quote

They were basically designing mech to combat an at the time, unseen giants. They probably were made more for fighting off boarding parties on ships or dealing with a smaller invasion force than what we got. The Spartan does have some ranged combat equipment and was built for strength possibly for enemy capture and a club to have piñata time with a giant meat bag if all else fails. Quote

But seriously (well, half), these things have shoulder mounted missiles, cannons front and back... and freakin' valks have hands for no apparent tactical reason other than holding a ridiculous, handheld gun that makes zero sense (if design was considered BEFORE they knew they'd be tackling space giants). At least Spartans have big, heavy duty hands for both load handling and non explosive, close range tactical use on a SPACE ship where you don't exactly wanna be firing inside your own ship. In that regard these things make perfect sense. Quote
Bolt Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Finding a crashed ship that apparently had hatches and levers (etc.) suitable for giants undoubtedly influenced SPACY in their design process. The Spartan seems to be a hybrid design between the heavy Destroid concept and the more nimble VF battroid designs. Quote
