I have all my toys from childhood too: 40 stuffed animals, 8 SAT prep books, and several figure skates in storage. SAT prep books are considers toys? If so, why not any other books? Shizuka the Cat Posted March 12, 2019 Share Posted March 12, 2019 2 of my chunky monkeys (2008 Origin of Valkyrie VF-1A Super Max, 2002 VF-1J Hikaru) and Klan Klan SMS cosplay uniform arrived from Mandarake. I have to say.... I really like how compact the packaging is on the 2002 chunky monkeys. They take up so little space! I kind of wish the Yamato/Arcadia and DX Chogokin releases were in such small boxes. Would make my storage nightmare a LOT easier. Also, I like the heftiness of the chunky monkeys. I wonder if there are YetiStands for them? As for the SMS uniform, it is just so-so. The material is bit on the thin side, so you need to wear something underneath... otherwise your underwear will show thru a bit. The wig that came with the uniform see,s a bit too light a shade of blue, compared to what Klan Klan's hair should be. However, given that the uniform and wig set were just 800 yen, it was a pretty good deal. Can't wait to make the uniform a little tighter and add an inner lining to it! But I feel that way about most things. I’d rather give something away then throw it away. On the other hand, I have way too much stuff. Sometimes even broken stuff is worth something. I think my original Jetfire was a damaged to the point where I didn't want it but I was able to sell him on ebay. For me, it's the good toys that I have nostalgia for that I'm upset were tossed. I did find one of my original SD veritech / valkyries. But only the armor for the rest. The majority of my large Transformers collection? Tossed. I'm talking all the original first G1 toys. Optimus, Megatron, the other purple gun guy, the bad jets and all. The big combiners like the Constructicons, the jet ones I like Superion, and that big one with the track going around. Dinobots, insecticons, etc. Tossed. Tabletop electronic games? Gone. Old videogame systems? I only found a Commodore 64 hard drive and I think an Odyssey in the furnace room. Same fate for stuff like the Ataris, Intellivision, Vetrex, and other older computers. I guess I was lucky to find old arcade tokens inside shoes and unused cups. I think I know how things are going to end for @Slave IV That's nothing. I saw an episode of Hoarders with a guy that basically had a library in his house. Apart from a single Transformers Optimus Prime (one of the ones with a trailer), all I had was books legos, and brio. My nostalgia is entirely based on things I wanted but didn't have. I just won 4 chunky monkey toy auctions thru YJA (using Buyee as proxy): VF-1J Max 2002, VF-1J Miria 2002, VF-1A DYRL Hikaru 2002 and VF-1S Super Hikaru 2002 And I was not even being frugal about it... I went into "in it until you win it" mindset. (Never take me to a casino.... NEVER take me gambling....) Welp, that is $600 down the drain, before shipping costs. *sigh* Hopefully consolidating those 4 into 1 box will lower the shipping bill I will see several days from now. And all this is before considering the VF-1J Hikaru 2002, VF-1A Super Max 2008, and Klan Klan SMS cosplay uniform w/ wig that I bought a few days ago from Mandarake. Like I said, I am definitely an idiot. God, why can't I just blow this kind of money on jewelry or handbags or drugs or alcohol like normal people? At least, I think I have largely satiated my Chunky Monkey urges.... It took about $1000 or so, but I think I have most of the 1/55's that I want. The only thing I am keeping an eye out for now is the VF-1A Super Hikaru 2008. Sure, I'd love to get the Super Ostrich and Elintseeker too, but those are so expensive that they are pretty much off my radar. Plus pieces from 1984 are hard to find in good condition. [i am looking at you SH9000] I am very careful about what i get these days. The truth is i can only display so much, and i don't like things to be overly cluttered. My chunkey monkeys are in their boxes for now, since i have no additional display space for now, but I will always keep them because they are genesis to me. Please don't call yourself that. We all share your passion, but if this helps, don't buy things if you don't have the cash for them. It sucks to wait, but it also pays off in some cases. That's Jetfire (Skyfire in the Generation 1 TV series), former Decepticon turned Autobot, whose Generation 1 toy has quite a colored history. Per Wikipedia: The first two years of Transformers toys were figures taken from older Japanese toylines, primarily Takara's Diaclone and Microman lines. 1985, however, saw several figures reused from lines created by Takatoku Toys, of which Jetfire was one — that of the VF-1S Super Valkyrie Fighter from the Macross series. This figure was one of the most articulated of the early Transformer toys, featuring fully poseable shoulder, hip, elbow and knee joints, and even poseable sacroiliac joints.[8] The instruction manual for the toy even included the GERWALK mode designed for the Macross version of the toy, which was used in that animated series, and seen briefly in the Transformers season 2 episode "The Day of the Machines". Problems over the Jetfire toy began when Bandai absorbed Takatoku Toys, and Macross regained popularity, leading to Bandai's desire to reproduce the Valkyrie toy themselves. This led to problems for Takara when they imported the Transformers toyline — although Hasbro was able to market the Jetfire toy in their markets, Takara was not, nor could they promote it via the animated series, since the mold was owned by their main competitor, and therefore, it was viewed as potential free advertising for Takatoku (this issue also prevented the Deluxe Vehicles, Deluxe Insecticons, Omega Supreme, and Sky Lynx from being released in Japan, though after Takara merged with Tomy, the latter two were finally released in Japan). Although an animation model had been created for Jetfire based on the appearance of the toy (which could be seen in the original toy commercial advertising the figure), this was quickly abandoned and completely redesigned so as to no longer resemble the Valkyrie. This was the design that went on to feature in the comics and cartoons. Jetfire only saw a few American production runs, as the show the original toy was based upon, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, was exported to America to become the first third of Robotech. Ironically, since Hasbro released Jetfire first, there was never a U.S. release of an authentic transforming version of the toy for Robotech, even though the design was the series' most recognizable and popular mecha. As with other pre-Robotech borrowings from Macross (for instance, Battletech), the licensing situation for the toy became murky with two different companies (Big West and Tatsunoko Production) asserting exclusive rights to license Macross merchandise outside Japan. Due to these legal issues, Jetfire has not been among the Transformers toys reissued in the 21st century, instead being offered as part of the War For Cybertron: Siege toyline in his cartoon/comic design.[9] This toy is patented in the U.S. as patent number D287037. Jetfire was one of my most sought after toys during childhood, being both a Macross and Transformers fan. I'm kinda surprised that someone from mw forums don't know jetfire. Alot of guys here have bought old jetfires for the main purpose of converting them mainly bc old jetfires are cheap. I spent most of my childhood with it and it is probably the main reason I'm into Macross toys today. It's left arm eventually came off but it survived a ton of violent play and transformations. Them chunky monkeys were really built like tanks. It's interesting though, I ended up owning 3 of them...my original had metal (diecast?) legs while the other 2 were plastic. The Jetfire toy holds a very special place in the hearts of old Macross fans (like me). In the Philippines, the original SDF Macross and the G1 Animated Transformers series both came out at around the same time, and were quite popular among the kids of that generation (of which I'm from). (Though, they have not achieved the cult following of Voltes V and the other super robot anime of the 70's, but that's another story.) LOL again at your comment about the "Mark Wahlberg movies." Yeah, even for some hardcore Transformers fans, the Bayformers movie series were essentially trash. We watched them nevertheless because a) we're fans of the original animated transformers, and b) these were the first live-action Hollywood blockbuster level movies of Transformers. (I shudder to think what Hollywood would do to a live-action adaptation of Macross). I heard that the Bumblebee movie was much better than all the Bayformers movies combined, and really paid homage to the fans of the original animated series. (I'm still waiting for my blu-ray copy to arrive from Amazon. Was not able to see the movie in the theater, because its incredibly difficult to get a movie ticket to the movies here in Riyadh). Just being playful okay? ) Well, I am not a transformable toy planes/robots collector.... I am very specifically a Macross toy collector.... who has now been collecting for about a year now. The fact that I think I spent close to $15K on Macross toys still freaks me out a bit... and tells me just how addictive a personality I have. *sigh* No offense taken. I realize that most folks here on MWF are.... older gentlemen... with a wider breadth and greater depth of fandom than me. As such, I am lacking familiarity with such topics as Transformers, Bayformers, Bumblebee, whatever Voltes V is, etc. For me, my fandom is pretty limited to Macross toys and cosplay (more so in high school and my undergrad years). Bayformers is the term used to refer to the live-action Transformers directed by Michael Bay (surely, you must have heard about him? On second thought, you might have not, given that most of the movies he's known for are a) guy flicks, and b) released mostly in the 90s. Hehe!) Michael Bay? No, I don't think I have heard of him. Bumblebee (which was directed by Travis Knight) was supposed to be a direct prequel to the Bayformers movies, but apparently, the former introduced a lot of changes that messed up with the timeline of the latter. I'm inhibiting myself from learning about these changes in order not to spoil the movie until I get to watch it. I don't think there was an animated Bumblebee series. AFAIK, all the animated transformers were titled as "Transformers" along with a secondary title denoting the series' focus (i.e. Transformers Beast Wars, et al). I know that animation from the G1 Series, as well as the Animated Movie (confused much? ) were Japanese animated. Some of the later series were either computer animated, or done by non-Japanese. There's been quite a lot of Transformers series since G1 and before the Bayformers movies that you need to talk to a real hard core Transformers fan to learn more about them.
