Where's a can of RAID when ya need one?

It’s ok, I think they were mostly taken care of by the end of the show.
seriously, I think Cham was the only survivor

@pengbuzz That mini diorama is a COOL idea! It has a nice 3rd dimesion to it. I think the curvature was good and forced persepctive on the subject.

@Papa Rat It will be cool to see those built! I got a couple of the "newer" ones when they went down drastically in price.

@Big s The Dunbine models drove me nuts too. It reminds me of the original Atari video game art. The cartridge shows two dudes battling it out on a tennis court. You get the game and its just two sticks and a ball. The "ball" wasn't even round! - MT

Bandai back in the day couldn’t compete proportionally with Imai. I sometimes wonder how Imai went under with such great looking kits compared to Bandai at the time

Probably financial mismanagement, if I had to guess.

I’ll do the one character from the Dunbine kit for now and maybe dig into that old L-Gaim box set next. Will be fun to keep jumping around.

Those look great!

Thanks! The old 1:100 Imai Armored Valk is the first vintage kit I augmented with ball joints. I've learned how to do this through Japanese modeling magazines as well as Japanese YouTube modelers. My legacy Q-Rau kit is almost done... I just need to paint the pilot's eyes and I'll be done. That has ball joints for the hips, reinforced with brass tube for durability.

Oh and post a photo of the Q-Rau once you finish it up.

Bozune, you are a hot mess and I love you. 😂

I few more seam lines to deal with then I’m going back into it with some surfacer 500 for texture and brush painting this goofball with lacquers. 👍

Hahaha. How dare you insult my baby like that.
I will do my best to properly represent this creep the best I can. 😜

Texture added and all primed up for some brush painting. This is the 💩stage of this build.  Now I just need to fix a few seam shadow areas and the loose hip joints. The floppy legs can’t support the weight of the backpack jet thing. If not supported by a nearby bottle of loctite, our friend Bozune does a complete back bend or face plant. Oof!

The brown is very Golgothan. Can’t wait to see it in full color and can’t wait for the rerelease of Dogma IMG_3465.gif.b95d49554f56ef0aae76c7d3bca580cd.gif

but seriously, that’s gonna add an interesting organic texture, especially since these things were armored with giant bug carapace chunks

First layers of brushes painting lacquers are down and looking rough. Going to do another thin layer all around then it’s time for clean up, some panel lines “I guess I’ll call them that”, flat top coat and weathering etc… been super busy lately so its taking forever to get this done.

Thinking about your project here (how bug-like it looks), have you considered an iridescent top coat on it? I saw this online and wanted to know your thoughts:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pouring-Masters-Professional-Acrylic-Pearlescent-Mixing-Effects-Medium-8-oz-Bottle-Create-Pearl-Iridescent-Metallic-Effects-Improve-Flow-Consistency/2340932760?classType=REGULAR&adsRedirect=true

It says it can be used as a topcoat to add an iridescent effect to paint (clear, just iridescent). I thought that maybe it would help it look more alien, but you might not want to go that route. Just a suggestion.

I think that would be a great addition. I am unfamiliar with this specific product but I have a few Mr color crystal colors that add a really nice effect. I think I have a nice blue one that may elevate this build a little. Lots of beetle carapaces have that jewel like shimmer. Good call.  I guess I’m now leaning towards a more high gloss for the armor parts and flat for the joints, nooks and crannies.
Thanks so much for the suggestion. 👍

This is what the blue crystal color looks like over dark lacquer paint. This is from Wave co. FFS kit
