JSI 1/18 Scale F-14 Tomcat Announced

Recommended Posts

ooohhh, 1:18 flanker, my wife will let me get it once I know the release date and price, any pictures yet? though I would prefer a SU-35.
Pics of the Flanker at earliest won't be until later this year, maybe at SDCC. Price I imagine would be between $150-200, maybe over as the Flanker is bigger than all of the other current, and future 1/18 scale jets. Earliest release I imagine will be Fall or Winter, more realistically I think we are looking at early Spring next year.

Man...I want one in that damn demo SU-30 colors that Sukhoi parades all over the place...the one with black, white, and grey swirls.

* BAH ! Disregard, pics are up NOW!*

Holy shnikies, that's a Su-30, maybe a 27UB, but I will have to see better pics to be sure.
MTS lists it as a J-11(SU-27UKB). Some members are surprised that these variants have been picked, but I can see why these choices were made. JSI is a Hong Kong based country, so a Chinese Flanker variant doesn't surprise me.

This company does not want to overlap other companies by having the same aircraft, which is GREAT because that means every plane they do will be unique to them and keep the market fresh. Call me crazy but I want to see an F-8 Crusader, A-6 Intruder, A-4 Aggressor Skyhawk, F-16XL and F-105 Thunderchief.

THUD FTW!

1/18 scale SU-27 Flanker & F-15 Eagle Under Consideration

Late this year, or early next. This matches up with the F-15 rumor earlier this year. An F/A-18 was rumored at the same time the Eagle was, however this time around, the F-15 and SU-27 are the newest announcements.

*best Charlie Brown voice* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

So many cool--and big-a$$ed--toys coming out, so little wallet [and storage] room to accomodate my toy-lust.... :(

With all this buzz about JSI great modern fighter release..I wonder if BBI will respond by releasing

the 1:18 F-16 Viper Aggressor NAS Fallon and 1:18 F-18 Hornet Aggressor NAS Fallon..hmmmm ..What I'm hoping for is a flood of 1:18 modern fighters being released by both companies! There's enough of WW2 stuff out there.

No kidding, what the heck is it that makes these companies think we need more WWII stuff.

military toy shop dot com is taking pre-orders for the 1:18 Tomcat, so I guess it's a certainty?

errata: they're taking pre-orders for Strike Eagle and Su-27 [shengyang J-11] as well. "Estimated price around $200.00"

Thanks for the heads up! I was able to place my pre-orders for the F-14s.

A bit off-topic, I know [sorry, didn't feel like hunting up that other 1:18th thread]

Looks like Admiral Toys is planning to release a 1:18 scale Skyraider, after production runs of their upcoming SBD Dauntless are completed. Found the linky here: http://themodelhangar.com/forums/admiral-t...-skyraider.html

I know some posters have expressed a wish for more modern aircraft in large scale--I guess this one is "sort of" a jet-age subject, even if it is a holdout from another era

IMG_1883.jpg

Regardless, looks like it's gonna be one cool lookin' toy--er, collector's piece.

I can see it now...diorama involving two GI Joe Tomahawks picking up a downed fighter pilot... a pair of Skyraiders providing close air support.

aargh, pics won't show at work. Which Skyraider model is it, 1 seat, two seat, four seat, elint, medivac, argh....

Well, the pic looks to be a one seater, and the thread over the other side sez things that go boom are hanging off it, so I'm guessing not exactly elint or medivac...

EDIT: Do note the original post over there is from end Jan, so the info is dated already. But the guy said they want to do different versions: Navy, Marine, AF, with different loadouts.

I think it's a D or E model...whichever model the Navy used in Vietnam....Jason of Admiral Toys is basing the 1st release off of the Skyraider his father flew in Vietnam while in the Navy.

1st color scheme for F-14A is said to be VF-84 Jolly Rogers. If they do a high viz 70's CAG VF-1 Wolfpack.....oh man..

That Sky Raider is awesome!! When I lived in CA. years back I saw one fly into Van Nuys Airport for a refueling, Got to see it taxi out on the runway, rev its engine up and haul ass!!! The Pilot was allowed a fly by, super sweet!! I'd definitely buy that one and a F-14 in a Jolly Roger Hi Vis scheme!!

Thanks for the heads up. BTW, how's JSI's molding quality, model accuracy, etc?

I have no idea about this company's products. So far, all the model kits I bought are Japanese or Korean.

Thanks for any comments.

That Skyraider toy could potentially rival even the mighty Cobra Rattler for title of "most-heavily-bristling-weapons-loadout-on-a-large-scale-toy-plane-ever," if such a distinction ever existed...

The upcoming JSI F-14 is gonna make the old GI Joe Skystriker look pretty pathetic in comparison...

That w'site that's taking pre-orders also has some toys from a company called Skyworks Toys. They're pretty cool looking, and it's neat that they offer models that no one else does, like the Hawker Hurricane and Mitsubishi J8M1 'Shusui.' But MY LORD, they're expensive! For 725 bones, that sum-bi*ch ought to be able to fly around my back fuggin' yard!

Click here! This is likely the same company who was making the VF-154 Black Knights Tomcat for Kawai Toys, but has been very very quiet up until now. This company used to manufacture toys for 21st Century Toys, so they are new only in name, not experience.

I could care less for the inaccuracies, this looks awesome and I will buy it. Note that the color scheme shown is just tentative and not final at all.

Tomcat PORN!!

...must... have ... release.. date...

  • 4 weeks later...

Note to Shin (for ToyArk updating purposes):

Those aren't B/D gun vents. It's true that all B and D's have them, but they are not exclusive to them. Any A-model still in service past the early 90's has them as well. Most famous example is the Black Knights while stationed in Japan----nearly every F-14A model/toy lately has been based on a Black Knights one from that era, since they were so well-photographed.

Officially, they're NACA vents. "Early vs late" is often used but also leads to confusion, as there's actually 3 types of gun vents for the F-14. (what most people call "early" is actually the middle one---unless someone who knows all 3 says it, which really confuses people who only know the main 2)

As far as the Skyraider goes, this plane was actualy announced almost 4 years ago, Admiral Toys tends to talk a lot but has really only made 2 aircraft. Also DO NOT order anything from Skyworks, they have been consistently ripping off their customers by not delivering the product, anyone who posts on SSHQ can attest to this. On the other hand I agree about Rattler and Jason did say there would be 4 variants and each would have a different ordinance load. If Admiral actually follows through this would be one or four beautiful aircraft B))

Really? I didn't know that. Thanks for the update I always thought those vents were on B/D's.

I think the Kawai Toys Black Knights CAG is still a go, maybe around the same time frame as the mass market, VF-84 release(still no word on if its high viz or low, but I think it is high viz, instant high-seller right there). Really itching for a high viz, 70's CAG VF-1 Wolfpack version.

They are still working on the Skyraider, the Phantom can be made if they want to(prototype and CAD designs still intact). Their latest announcement is a 1/18 scale Mosquito fighter bomber.

so tempted... but where would I put this?

Wooot... well, that's at least a couple worries I had shot down.. appears ALL the weapons are removable (I love a clean plane sometimes ^_^) and the gear look nicely detailed. Loving those nozzles too, although to be honest, I'd love it more if they included opened and closed versions.

This is definitely a late model A though, it's got all the sensor bumps that the last ones in service had (under the wing glove, left front gear door, etc) as well as the later NACA style intakes on the gun.

Wait a second.. anyone else think it looks like they added the internal sensors as well as the external ones on the gloves? The upper lip looks like it has a definite bump to it. I thought those were only on the D models, and it replaced the external ones?

Either they're mixed up, or this plane is a mashup of production pieces from different versions.

The bump ahead of the glove vane goes with the one on the left nose gear. The internal sensors are truly internal---they leave NO trace outside. All external sensors are "paired"----the ones under the gloves go with the one on the beaver tail, the ones ahead of the vanes goes with the one on the left nosegear door. If you see one type, you know it has the "matching" type as well.

The fact that the gun vents seem to be molded integrally with the forward fuselage and how the nozzle shrouds are worries me---it really looks like this mold could ONLY be a late-model F-14A. Which pretty much means anything other than the Black Aces would be very inaccurate. Few things worse (or dumber) than doing all that research on a plane, making a mold---then having that mold be completely incompatible with your first paint scheme! Frankly, a Black Aces style Tomcat is the worst choice for a MOLD, as that really is about the only (desirable/famous)squadron that can use it.
